Spintrap's jaws inflict pain and punishment on unsuspecting targets.

— Description, Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal

The Spintrap is an enemy that appears in the Sonic Boom series. It is a mass-produced model of Destruction Troops created by Lyric the Last Ancient.

Appearance[]

The Spintraps have a larva-like red body split into three segments. Their two back segments have four gray round wings each, while their front segment makes up their head. On their head they have a pair of yellow wing-like ears, a gray mouth resembling a bear trap, and a large purple eye with green sclera inside their mouths.

Overview[]

The Spintraps were created five millennia ago in the Robot Facility by Lyric the Last Ancient to help him destroy the earth's lifeforms and conquer it.[1] During an attack on the remaining Ancients however, the Spintraps were shut down when Lyric was imprisoned.[1][2] In the present day, they were recovered by Lyric after he escaped to search for the Crystal Shards and battle Team Sonic too.

A Spintrap in Seaside Jungle.

The player can find the Spintraps in Seaside Beach and Seaside Jungle's water sections. In gameplay, they jump out of and back into their water pools in intervals. At the apex of their jump, they will slow down and snap with their jaws to injure the playable character if they try to get close; immediately after that, they are vulnerable to close-up attacks. The player can as well skip across strings of Spintraps using the Homing Attack to cross wide water sections. Even after destroying a Spintrap however, a new one will later respawn to take its place. Additionally, the seventeenth Toy the player purchases from Q-N-C's Toy Shop will be a Spintrap figurine.

After Team Sonic and Shadow defeated Lyric, the Spintraps were stopped once more.

Personality[]

The Spintraps are overall mindless and silent drones unwaveringly loyal to Lyric the Last Ancient, having been programmed to obey his every command.[1]

Powers and abilities[]

The Spintraps are capable swimmers and have a powerful bite that can inflict noticeable pain and injuries.

Trivia[]

  • The Spintraps bear many similarities with the Choppers from the Sonic the Hedgehog series, including their attack patterns.
  • The Spintraps' attack patterns are virtually identical to the Zapos'.

His race was devoted to peacefully controlling the world’s resources. Driven mad by power, Lyric turned on his fellow Ancients and took control of the resources. Building an army of robots programmed to obey his every command, the deadly snake-like villain set out to destroy everything organic and create a world of twisted metal and robots. However, just before he could successfully take over, he was attacked by the last surviving Ancients and imprisoned forever. With his army shut down and his plans ruined, he waited in prison plotting his revenge. Years passed and Lyric began to give up hope. That is, until Sonic comes across him. Now with his army rebooted, and his plans in place, the only thing stopping Lyric from total victory is Sonic and his friends."
