For information about the Archie Comics move, see Spin Hammer Attack (Archie). For the attack in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, see Spin Hammer Attack (Sonic Boom).

The Spin Hammer Attack[1] (回転ハンマー[2] Kaiten Hanmā?, lit. "Spinning Hammer"), also called the Revolving Hammer Attack[3] (回転ハンマー[4] Kaiten Hanmā?, lit. "Spinning Hammer") is a move used by Amy Rose which first appeared in Sonic Adventure. When performing this move, Amy twirls around with her Piko Piko Hammer.

Description[]

When performing the Spin Hammer Attack, Amy stays in one spot and begins twirling around with her Piko Piko Hammer outstretched at high speeds, like a spinning top, allowing her to destroy any enemies that enter her attack radius. While whirling, Amy's Piko Piko Hammer leaves a trail of pink hearts and afterimages.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Adventure[]

The Spin Hammer Attack first appeared in Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut. In this game, Amy must have obtained the Warrior Feather to perform it. In gameplay, the player can perform the Spin Hammer Attack by holding down DreamcastB/X Button Dreamcast/SNNBGAMECUBEDISCO/Gamecube X Button and spinning the analog stick in a circle. The attack can be stopped by letting go of DreamcastB/X Button Dreamcast/SNNBGAMECUBEDISCO/Gamecube X Button.

The downside to this move is that if it is performed for too long, Amy will get dizzy and temporarily lose coordination, causing her to stagger around uncontrollably for a few seconds regardless of the player's controller inputs. Another downside is that this move has a small attack radius, and since the player is rooted in place when executing it, it is difficult to use. However, the radius can be increased by obtaining the Long Hammer.

Sonic Shuffle[]

In Sonic Shuffle, the Spin Hammer Attack is named Revolving Hammer Attack[3] (回転ハンマー[4] Kaiten Hanmā?, lit. "Spinning Hammer") and is Amy's Special Attack Ability. In gameplay, if Amy draws an S Card in battle, she will perform the Revolving Hammer Attack on the enemy, which always does five damage points.

In other media[]

Archie Comics[]

Sonic Boom[]

In the Sonic Boom franchise, the Spin Hammer Attack is a technique used by Amy Rose in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. In addition to dealing damage, this version of the attack does not make Amy dizzy, and allows her to move around and block projectiles while spinning.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being a mandatory upgrade for Amy, there is never a point where Amy is required to perform the Spin Hammer Attack to progress through the game, similar to Tails' Rapid Tails Attack.
  • The Spin Hammer Attack is the only attack gained from a Level Up Item that is completely useless against the character's final boss, as ZERO can only be hit by vertical attacks while the Spin Hammer Attack is a horizontal attack.
