Gameplay[]
Speed Sphere Challenge is an isometric 3D game taking place in a single level, based on Green Hill. The goal of the game is to defeat Dr. Eggman in his Death Egg Robot, upon which the game will end. In-game, the player controls a Lego minifigure of Sonic the Hedgehog inside a "Speed Sphere", which the player can slowly roll in one of the eight directions, but can also momentarily increase the speed of by using the Boost. Sonic will bounce off any walls he rolls into with enough force, and can destroy any breakable objects while boosting in the speed sphere.
The level itself is a blocky plane surrounded by water, and divided into sections by walls. Dotted around the level are Rings, Breakable blocks, Spikes and Badniks. Rings add to the player's score when collected, and likewise, defeating a Badnik will release an Animal that adds to the score. The rows of spikes found in the level extend and retract periodically, and will remove five Rings from the player if the player comes into contact with them. All Badniks in the game can be destroyed easily by rolling into them. The only Badnik that can damage the player is the Buzz Bomber, which will periodically fire a small shot that removes 3 Rings if touched. Notably, however, should the player get by anything when they have zero Rings, they will be unaffected entirely, apart from having their momentum halted.
The level also features a central chamber where the Death Egg Robot Boss is fought. This chamber can be accessed at any time by the player. Inside the chamber are several Capsules, each of which grants five animals upon being rolled into. At the very center of the chamber is the Death Egg Robot, which regularly fires bursts of missiles at the player, but remains stationary, apart from rotating its body. Each missile drains two Rings if hit. The player can damage the robot by rolling into it, granting it momentary invulnerability before it can be damaged again. After 10 hits, the robot is destroyed, granting the player 5 animals, and ending the game. The player is then scored based on how many rings and animals they collected, and how long they took to defeat the Death Egg Robot.
