— Description, Sonic Superstars website

Speed Jungle Zone is the second Zone of Sonic Superstars. It is a lush jungle on the Northstar Islands filled with mechanical remains. The Zone contains two standard Acts, as well as an optional Act exclusive to Sonic.[1] Acts 1 and 2 feature a boss fight at the end.

Description[]

Speed Jungle Zone takes place in a vibrant jungle housing an array of mechanical remains, including dilapidated buildings overgrown with trees, pathways made of tarnished trusses, discarded machine parts scattered throughout the Zone, and buried objects such as nuts and bolts. Objects such as torches, metal totem poles, and well-maintained canopies constructed from wood and straw can also be spotted throughout the Zone, as well as evidence of Dr. Eggman's influence in the form of a Badnik factory.

The vines throughout the Zone act as a variety of gimmicks, including Grind Rails, flippers and pulleys, while harpoon launchers can be used to create paths to higher ground.

Story[]

Pursuing Fang the Hunter, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy have arrived in Speed Jungle Zone, where they continue their quest of saving the Northstar Islands from Dr. Eggman.

Overview[]

Act 1[]

Speed Jungle Zone Act 1 has players rush through the tropical jungle, utilizing the various types of vines to maneuver across the stage. The grind "rails" in Speed Jungle Zone will automatically cause players to hit and maintain grinding speed as long as they meet a certain speed threshold themselves--with the velocity allowing players to jump off sloped rails in order to reach higher areas. On lower paths, switch-activated harpoons that create pathways are a common occurrence.

Act Sonic[]

Being the first character-specific Act of the game, Speed Jungle Zone Act Sonic's level design is tailored around Sonic's speed-tailored abilities. Throughout this Act, Fang will ambush and pursue Sonic throughout the jungle, attacking with missiles and lasers from the Marvelous Queen while chasing players with a laser wall that will instantly kill Sonic on-contact. Towards the end of the Act, Fang will also destroy the ruined buildings in the background to scatter debris in Sonic's path.

Act 2[]

Taking place deeper in the jungle, Speed Jungle Zone Act 2 features pitch-black areas illuminated by only a single butterfly following one of the four possible players. Infinitely-looping falls can also be encountered twice during this Act.

Boss[]

Sub-boss[]

The sub-boss of Act 1 is a massive mosquito Badnik powered by giant-sized Flicky. It is capable of flying and has various attacks, like creating energy spheres or using a grappling hook. After one hit (or two in Trip's Story), the boss will move to a different area, with a slightly altered layout. The boss is defeated after three hits (six in Trip's Story).

Main Boss[]

The main boss of Act 2 is a spherical mech controlled by Dr. Eggman/Eggrobo. The boss is invulnerable to regular attacks from the player, with the only method to deal damage is by sending one of the additional mechanical arms or a blue missile back into the machine. It is divided in three phases. While in the first one it will stomp into the ground and release more mechanical arms, in the second phase it will spin across the area while attached to the vertical bar and launch different colored missiles. In the third phase, it will reuse two attacks from the previous phases, namely the missiles and the mechanical arms. After six hits (nine in Trip's Story), the boss will be defeated.
