The Speed Break is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series
Description [ ] The Speed Break's icon looks like a bright yellow beam of energy surrounded by rings of energy and enveloped in a purple flame. On the tracks, the Speed Break appears as a fiery yellow aura around the player, and it leaves behind a yellow trail.
Overview [ ] In gameplay, the Speed Break can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Darkspine Sonic .
Once obtained, the player can utilize the Speed Break by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Fire Boost will take half a second to charge, while Sonic slows down, but after this the player instantly charges forward with increased speed in a fiery like aura for a short amount of time. The duration of the Speed Break is shown by the decreasing gauge on top of this power-up's icon on the bottom of the HUD whenever the Speed Break is in effect. In addition, any rival character who makes contact with the user while the Speed Break is in effect will take damage, causing them to lose Rings and slow down momentarily.
The Speed Break can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 2, 8 and 14 respectively. For each upgrade, the Speed Break will cause more damage.
