The Special Stage in Sonic Superstars is a series of extra levels. To access a Special Stage, the player must jump into one of the Giant Rings that are hidden in the regular Zones.
In these stages, players must swing through spheres where the goal is to collect either the Chaos Emerald or a Medal. These Special Stages have a time limit which will go down but can be extended by gathering Rings. There are boost pads that'll give the player extra speed, allowing them to catch up with the Emerald/Medal, as well as spring cannons that send the player upwards. In addition, there are also bombs that damage the player on contact and walls that the playable characters must avoid bumping into.
The Special Stage ends when the player has either run out of time, falls off the stage or has gathered the Emerald/Medal.
