Ward away any intruders with a row of powerful spears. Jump over the spear heads before they spring up!

— Description, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle

The Spear Trap is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Trap Item used primarily to obstruct opposing rivals' path.

Description[]

The Spear Trap's icon takes the form of a old-fashioned spear with a brown wooden staff, a metallic gray spearhead, two white fangs protruding from the sides, and two blue feathers and one yellow one attached to the bottom of the spearhead by beige rope. In gameplay, this power-up becomes a row of stone semicircles with yellow and blue feathers attached on their outer rim and spear pillars resembling the Spear Trap's icon protruding from their tops.

Overview[]

In gameplay, the Spear Trap can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Movie Knuckles, Mummy Knuckles and Series Knuckles. As with most other Items, Metal Sonic can also use the Spear Trap if he uses the Steal Item to steal it from the aforementioned user.

Once obtained, the player can utilize the Spear Trap by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Spear Trap will sprout its spear pillars some distance ahead of the user's current location on all the lanes that the user is not currently on. If the track is four lanes wide, then up to two out of three spear pillars will be so tall that they cannot be jumped over. If the track is six lanes wide on the other hand, then up to three out of five spear pillars will be too tall to be jumped over. The rest of the lanes, on the other hand, will not have any spear pillars. If a character collides with any of the spear pillars, including the user themselves, they will take damage, causing them to lose Rings and slow down momentarily. To avoid the Spear Trap, the playable character must jump over the lowest spear pillars produced by this power-up or run in-between them. Especially, all of the spear pillars will spring the opposite height from their initial.

The Spear Trap can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 4, 10 and 16 respectively. For each upgrade, the damage dealt with this power-up will be increased.

Trivia[]
