History[]
Sonic Unleashed[]
In Sonic Unleashed, Spagonia received an unwelcome visit from the evil scientist Dr. Eggman, who, along with his robots, invaded Spagonia University, where they kidnapped Professor Pickle, ransacked his lab, stole the Gaia Manuscripts. Shortly after, Spagonia's continent was torn away from the earth's mantle when the doctor awoke Dark Gaia, resulting in the planet shattering into pieces.[4]
A few days later, Sonic, Tails and Chip came to Spagonia to find Pickle, hoping his research findings could help uncover information about Eggman's current plans. When they got there, however, the professor's assistant told the trio about his kidnapping. Recognizing Eggman as the culprit, the hedgehog and his friends searched for clues to Pickle's whereabouts and eventually pinpointed him in Mazuri. When the heroes returned to Spagonia with the rescued professor, he explained that the earth's shattering was due to Dark Gaia, who Eggman had awoken. Because this deity was awakened prematurely, however, Pickle assigned Sonic to take the currently powerless Chaos Emeralds to the Gaia Temples which would restore their power and thence put the planet back together. While Sonic and his group traveled the world, the professor remained in Spagonia to decipher the Gaia Manuscripts for the Gaia Temples' locations. From his initial research, he was able to pinpoint the first Gaia Temple in Mazuri.

Sonic the Werehog in Spagonia at nighttime, from the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed.
After Sonic and Chip had restored Mazuri's continent, they returned to Spagonia at night, where the hedgehog, now transformed into the Werehog, was hugged by Amy who believed she had found Sonic. When taking a closer look however, she believed the Werehog to be a stranger and quickly apologized quickly ran off. As the pink hedgehog left, her lack of recognition made Sonic depressed, making him believe that he was too scary-looking in this form.
Back in Pickle's lab, the professor revealed to the duo that he had located two more Gaia Temples - one in Holoska and one right in Spagonia. Later, after collecting key fragments from his assigned locations, Sonic and Chip returned to Spagonia's town proper, where Tails gave them an Uncanny Camera. Afterwards, the duo found a group of townspeople possessed by Dark Gaia's Minions holding Amy captive. Chip decided to take a picture of the group with their camera which exorcised the townspeople, freeing them from the minions. After the blue hedgehog defeated the monsters, he quickly left with Chip before the pink hedgehog could get a good look at him. She met Pickle shortly after, who told her everything, and Sonic confronted her with his condition. The professor soon after pinpointed another Gaia Temple in Chun-nan for the heroes.
After restoring Chun-nan's continent, Sonic and Chip returned to Spagonia once again, where Pickle had them investigate the city and to head back to Chun-nan to clear out the Badniks that held the place under siege. After clearing their assignments, the heroes they used their collected key fragments to open the portal to Spagonia's Gaia Temple, where they returned the continent to its proper place. The duo soon after found Pickle, who sent them to Holoska. When they restored that town's continent, the professor had pinpointed the next Gaia Temple in Shamar and revealed that he was joining them on their trip there to make his analysis more efficient.
A while later, as Dark Gaia began casting the world into darkness while maturing into Perfect Dark Gaia, the inhabitants of Spagonia would watch in horror as the sky above the city turned dark. However, the people began celebrating when the world returned to normal after Super Sonic and the Gaia Colossus defeated Perfect Dark Gaia.

There are only 4 Moon Medals in Spagonia's Town Stage which can be collected by Sonic the Hedgehog during daytime:
- On the balcony of the yellow building next to Josef's, the first Moon Medal is located next to two men (one in a blue shirt and the other in an orange shirt) conversing with each other. This place can be accessed as follows (from the entry/exit point of the Town Stage's entrance)
- Make a right onto the first alley.
- Turn left (to see a ledge which is grabbable by Sonic the Werehog). Continue on foot to the right instead.
- Jump up a couple of ledges to reach a Grind Rail, which will transport to the yellow building's balcony.
- The second Moon Medal is located on a rail on the left side of the town (when entering from the Town Stage's entry/exit point). The rail can be reached by jumping onto a series of two wooden boards on the side of the building in front of the rail.
- The third Moon Medal is located inside the left breakable pot plant in front of Spagonia University.
- The fourth Moon Medal is located on a patch of grass with three trees outside of Spagonia University (turn to the right when facing the university campus itself).

- The first Sun Medal is on top of the grabbable ledge (from the Town Stage's entry/exit point, turn right into the first alley, then make a left on the next alley).

Entrance Stage[]
There are only 2 Sun Medals and 2 Moon Medals.
- The first Sun Medal is reachable with Sonic the Hedgehog's Wall Jump using the set of walls the player acquired the Wall Jump Shoes from.
- In the same area of the Entrance Stage where the Wall Jump Shoes is acquired from, there is a small ledge on top of a pillar the player can reach by using the Wall Jump between the building and the pillar (marked by Rings. The first Moon Medal is on top of this pillar.
- To access the second Moon Medal, the player must first acquire the Light Speed Shoes in order to use the Lightspeed Dash in order to reach the elevator (where the player must transform Sonic into his Werehog form to pull a lever to deactivate the laser field blocking the elevator. Once at the basement, the second Moon Medal can be found by in the air near a pit of spikes pointing from a wall. The player must grab onto the ledge of a moving platform (which the player can use the grabble hooks on the side wall to help get closer to the platform), stand on top of it and quickly collect the medal before the platform takes off.
- Inside the same basement area, there is a switch that can be activated by simply attacking it. This will open a gate where the platform containing the second Sun Medal is obtainable. The player can then use the small grabbable hooks on the side wall to reach the platform.
