Sonic the Hedgehog The Screen Saver (ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグ・ザ・スクリーンセーバー Sonikku za Hejjihoggu Za Sukurīn Sēbā?) is a computer program published by Sega for PC featuring artwork, music, and icons from the Sonic the Hedgehog series that can be used to customize the user's Windows environment. The program was bundled with western copies of Sonic & Knuckles Collection and was only sold as a stand-alone product in Japan.
The screen saver features original Sonic, Tails and Knuckles sprites that animate between Sonic pictures. If the user chooses, they can play music from Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic & Knuckles and the Japanese version of Sonic the Hedgehog CD (although the last only features music from the present and past versions of each level).
A large portion of the pictures in from this Screen Saver were included in the artwork for Sonic Jam and all of them were included in the Museum of Sonic Gems Collection. The images not included in Sonic Jam were the ones taken from box artwork and character artwork from previous Sonic games.
Trivia[]
- Most of the artwork images in this game are included in Sonic Jam, Sonic Gems Collection, Sonic Classic Collection, and collectible cards in Sonic Rivals 2.
- A majority of the screensaver art originates from Japanese Sega magazine, Harmony, which was only released to Sega employees during the 1990s.
