This article contains a list of glitches from Sonic Spinball. Unless otherwise noted, all glitch names are conjectural. Many of them have not been confirmed by Sega.

List of glitches[]

Sonic Spinball (16-Bit) Spazzing Sonic Glitch - Sonic 06's Glitch Disease Bonus Episode

Video shows the spazzing Sonic glitch

In Toxic Caves, get to where Sonic must slide down a row of rings to get to a minecart. Before jumping over the pole that stops Sonic, either the left or right side, push Sonic to the left/right of the longest pole and Sonic will be spazzing out. It doesn't work with the smaller pole and the reason of how this glitch happens is unknown.

255 Lives[]

On Sonic's last life, the player should head to the right side table of Toxic Caves and land on the barrel at the bottom. From there, they should row to the rightmost of the screen, then jump and land on the sludge facing the right. If successful, Sonic will die once, but then warp to the center of the screen and die again. Since the player has lost 2 lives at 1 life left, the game underflows from 0 lives to 255 lives, and Sonic will still be able to continue as if he just lost a life normally. This essentially grants the player near-infinite lives.

Due to the interface not intended to handle values above 9 lives, the lives counter will display symbols instead. The player should avoid gaining extra balls while near 255 lives, otherwise it will overflow back to 0 lives and the next death will cause a Game Over.

252 glitch levels[]

With a code, it is possible to access levels after level 5, although most (or all) of these levels are mostly unplayable messes with glitched graphics. Some feature the HUD bar at the top of the screen while others don't, most will play Sonic's death sound, and some crash upon arrival. Some of the levels that do play Sonic's death sound either:

  • Play it once only
  • Act like a normal level of the game, and play it, and then "try again".
  • Play the death sound multiple times at once
  • Have the death sound play multiple times, and echo the sound effect.

Sometimes, when one of the latter 2 occurs, Sonic (in his death animation) will go from one side of the screen to another side/the middle, or come out the bottom and go back down. It is unknown why these levels exist, although it is possible that at one point, these "levels" were once fully playable and were scrapped without being fully removed from the game.

Wall Clipping[]

In Toxic Caves, the player is supposed to go up into each corner of the first room and hit a button in each. This will drain the toxic sludge where the emerald is and it also unlocks 2 openings to the tubes at the bottom. When these have been unlocked, the player is intended to go up them to reach the next room. Instead, however they can launch themselves into the caps on the tubes, and will sometimes clip through them into the next room.

Wall Clipping 2[]

In the second room of Toxic Caves there is a segment where the player is intended to get hit into then get launched back and forth by 2 enemies a total of 3 times. However, the player can clip through the ceiling above them and get to where they would go after doing the aforenoted process 3 times early.

Invisible Platform[]

In the second room of Toxic Caves there is a tube in which the player is intended to be launched up several times to remove all the barrels in it and get to the platform on top. But if the player reaches the top of it, slowly enough Sonic will stand on air and the two halves of the platform will not connect. The player can move around on the invisible platform, but jumping resets it.
