Sonic the Hedgehog Level Pack (also referred to as 71244 Sonic the Hedgehog Level Pack or 71244 Level Pack) is a Sonic the Hedgehog themed Lego level pack for LEGO Dimensions which was released on 18 November 2016. It is also the first LEGO Sonic set.
Description[]
The product includes three Lego toys set on pedestals which allows compatibility with the game LEGO Dimensions, in which characters from various franchises band together to save the entire Lego multiverse from the evil Lord Vortech. When the figures are placed on the Toy Pad, the game will receive data from the toys and unlock content based on the toys in the game.
Content[]
Characters[]
- A LEGO minifigure version of Sonic the Hedgehog. While his body is shaped as a default minifigure, his head is more closely based after himself. As a playable character, in the game Sonic is able to perform such moves as Spin Jump (default jumping), Spin Dash, Stomp, Homing Attack, Spinning Needle Attack, and a few other moves as well. After collecting enough Studs (which can take the form of Rings in the Sonic the Hedgehog level, the Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure World, or via the Sonic the Hedgehog World's Red Brick), he can transform into Super Sonic for a short amount of time. He can refill his Super meter by collecting more Studs.
Vehicles[]
- An aerial vehicle based after the Tornado that can be used to fly up to high places. It can be rebuilt into a Crabmeat, a land vehicle, and the Eggcatcher, an aerial vehicle based on the Casino Night Zone boss, the Catch Eggman, from Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
- This is a land vehicle that can be used to drive through ramps, based on the Speed Star from Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing. It can be rebuilt into the Blue Typhoon, an aerial vehicle, and a Motobug, a land vehicle used for cutting vines.
In LEGO Dimensions[]
When the Sonic the Hedgehog figure is used in the game, it unlocks a playable version of the figure in the game along with Sonic the Hedgehog World, a LEGO Adventure World based after various locations from Sonic games and a level that features separate levels, and a Battle Arena based on Carnival Night Zone. The world and level have LEGO versions of Badniks that not only harm the player but also makes them lose collected studs/rings in the same manner as the Sonic games.
Plot[]
The story starts with Sonic the Hedgehog in Green Hill Zone, destroying many of Dr. Eggman's robots in the process. He eventually enters the Special Stage and collects a Chaos Emerald. After collecting the Emerald, he heads back to Tails' Lab in hopes of getting there before Dr. Eggman. Unfortunately, the doctor was able to reach the lab before him. Eggman has Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Big the Cat tied up in an attempt to make Sonic give up the last Chaos Emerald, which would give him possession of all seven Emeralds. He also reveals his new Keystone Device, which allows him to access any dimension and summon anything he wants to in order to take over the universe. This ambush plan fails however, as Sonic distracts Eggman long enough to rescue his friends, aside from Amy, who seems to have gone missing. Eggman's Keystone Device starts to malfunction for unknown reasons, automatically activating multiple portals to other dimensions, which suck up Knuckles, Shadow, and Big. Sonic tells Tails to come up with a plan while he goes through one of the portals to rescue his friends and find Eggman.
When he comes out of the portal, Sonic ends up in Emerald Coast, and before he can recall where he is, an orca starts to chase him. He manages to outrun it, and finds the instructions to build his car, the Sonic Speedster. He uses it to jump on ramps he builds to get from island to island, until he finally reaches Eggman at the end of the coast. He manages to stop the doctor with his new vehicle, but Eggman escapes into another portal. Sonic jumps through it and enters another Special Stage. He obtains another Chaos Emerald, and meets up with Eggman in what appears to be the Death Egg.
Eggman reminds Sonic that he can summon any enemy he wants to, including his past metal counterparts. He summons Robo Sonic, Mecha Sonic, and finally Metal Sonic. Sonic manages to defeat all three, much to Eggman's dismay, but the victory is short lived as the Keystone Device malfunctions once again, creating more portals to other dimensions. Eggman escapes, and Sonic soon follows. However, one more portal opens once Sonic leaves, revealing a familiar water monster that has come to the Death Egg.
Sonic goes through another Special Stage and obtains the third Emerald, then reaches his next destination: Metropolis Zone. After going through the base to find Eggman, he manages to get in contact with Tails, who helps Sonic destroy some security robots, and sends over the parts and instructions needed for building the Tornado. After building it, Sonic and Tails use it to shoot down Eggman, who is flying above Metropolis looking out for the hedgehog. He manages to escape before any real damage to his Egg Mobile is done, and goes through another portal. Sonic follows through, goes into another Special Stage, collects the fourth Emerald, and heads on into Marble Zone. He meets up with Omochao, much to his distaste, and goes through solving the puzzles in Marble Zone to find a way out. While Omochao tries to help out, he eventually gets lost somewhere, then catches up with Sonic before he finds Eggman again. They duke it out once more, resulting in Eggman escaping again. Sonic follows, enters another Special Stage, and retrieves the fifth Emerald.
While in the dimensional rift, Sonic catches up to Eggman and tears off the Keystone Device from his Egg Mobile. He uses it to send Eggman into another dimension, and to create some terrain from Green Hill for him and Omochao land on, as well as finally teleport Knuckles, Shadow, and Big back. Sonic lets everyone know he obtained the device, and Knuckles suggests to Sonic that it would be best to sort out the mess Eggman has created. Sonic reminds him, however, that there are still two Chaos Emeralds somewhere. Big then remembers that he saw one at what he describes to be the Labyrinth Zone, which causes Sonic to have traumatic flashbacks of the zone, complete with the drowning theme. Unenthusiastic about going to the Labyrinth, he reluctantly agrees to go and obtain the sixth Emerald.
Sonic goes through the Labyrinth and manages to find another Special Stage Ring. He enters it and collects the sixth Emerald. He meets up with his friends, and lets them know he got the Emerald before noticing Gandalf, Wyldstyle and Batman, asking where they came from, in which Shadow says they were from “another rift”. They then leave, saying goodbye to the team (with Batman introducing himself with his catchphrase). Tails then shows up in the Tornado 2, letting them know Eggman rebuilt the Death Egg. Sonic goes along with Tails to go and finally finish off the doctor. Once Sonic arrives on the Death Egg, Eggman appears in his Death Egg Robot, containing the last Emerald inside of it. Sonic is able to easily beat the robot, but Eggman quickly retreats after what Sonic thought to be fear. But as Eggman points out, Chaos, who was teleported to the Death Egg earlier, has come to try and cause trouble once more. Chaos takes the Keystone Device that Tails was keeping safe from Eggman and gains the Elemental Powers it holds. Eggman appears on an intercom telling Sonic to destroy Chaos, but when asked to hand over the Emerald so that Sonic can turn into Super Sonic, he refuses. Sonic does not manage to do much damage to Chaos, until Amy finally shows up to smack Eggman aside with her Piko Piko Hammer, take the final Emerald, and give it to Sonic. Sonic then becomes Super Sonic, easily defeating Chaos and then teleporting him to another dimension. With the damage done to the Death Egg because of Sonic's fight with Chaos, it starts to fall apart, and Amy starts to fall off as well. Super Sonic manages to create a portal for Amy to go back home, leaving Eggman behind to plan his revenge once again. Super Sonic thanks Tails for his help, and they go through the portal.
Adventure World[]
The adventure world is a floating island (similar to most Adventure Worlds in the game) that features many locations from the Sonic series. Mentions and references[]
Character and Toy Pad interactions[]
- One of Sonic's lines when entering the game is "Aw yeah! This is happening...! That… that sounded better in my head." This is a reference to Sonic Adventure as the first line Sonic said in it was "Aw yeah! This is happening!"
- Another one of his entrance lines is "Fastest thing alive, at your service!", a reference to the theme song of the Saturday morning cartoon.
- Another possible entrance line is "Hey, long time no see!", a quote which has been used by Sonic many times throughout the Sonic series.
- The phrase “Gotta go fast!“ which is a reference to the name of the Sonic X English theme song of the same name, is referenced several times throughout the game:
- Sonic will occasionally say the titular line during gameplay.
- Sonic uses a variation of this phrase: "Gotta build fast!", during the Metropolis level.
- E.T. the Extra Terrestrial and Bubbles will use this line when entering the Sonic Speedster.
- Another variant of the phrase, "A puzzle! Gotta think fast!", is used whenever Sonic encounters a puzzle.
- Sonic remarks "Gotta accelerate quickly!" during one of the Special Stages in the level pack, which is a slightly verbose variant of the phrase.
- When Sonic encounters an object he can interact with, he will occasionally say "All right! Bring it on!" This is one of Sonic's lines from when starting a race in the Sonic Riders series.
- When Sonic encounters an object he cannot interact with, he will occasionally say "Shoot! Not my day." This is the same quote said by Sonic when he gets an E Rank in Sonic Heroes.
- He may also say "Another puzzle? This isn't gonna be like that bouncing barrel from Carnival Night Zone, is it?" This is a reference to the infamous "Barrel of Doom" (a term given by the fanbase) from the Carnival Night Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
- He may also say "Where's Tails when you need him?", referencing how smart Tails is.
- When Sonic enters a boss fight, he will occasionally say "It's not over yet. Let's show 'em what we're made of!" This is the same quote said by Super Sonic during the boss fight with Metal Overlord in Sonic Heroes.
- Upon entering the Vortex during the transition to any level, Sonic says “Whoah! Where am I? A Special Stage? Where are the rings? There's usually Rings!” This is a reference as to how the Special Stages in the Sonic games usually have Rings to collect.
- Whenever Sonic dies, instead of falling apart into pieces (as most other characters do) he will perform his death animation from the original Sonic games. The NPCs will, however, break apart with the iconic “LEGO bricks breaking” noise.
- One of Sonic's idle animations features him taking a nap and dreaming about his 16-bit Genesis form going for a run.
- When Sonic is removed from the toy pad, he will occasionally say "This party's getting kind of slow. I'm outta here!", or merely just "I’m outta here!" This is a reference to Sonic the Hedgehog CD, where, if the player leaves Sonic waiting for too long, Sonic would exclaim "I'm outta here!" and jump off the stage.
- Sonic has a unique interaction when riding the Tornado where he stands on the wing of the plane while Tails pilots the plane (any other character simply sits in the pilot’s seat as normal). This is a reference to the numerous instances in the Sonic games where Sonic has ridden the Tornado by standing on the wings while Tails pilots it.
Character interactions[]
- When Sonic interacts with Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time, he will say "Lumpy Space Princess, huh? Last time I met a princess, I...we...you know, I don't quite remember, never mind!" This likely references the notable negative reception that the game Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) received after the infamous scene where Princess Elise kisses Sonic to revive him and activate his Super Transformation.
- Sonic saying "I don't quite remember" is also likely a reference to the events of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) being reset, and his panicked dismissal of the incident upon almost bringing it up could reference the overwhelming negative reception of the kiss scene and the game as a whole.
- When Sonic interacts with Marceline the Vampire Queen from Adventure Time, Sonic will say "Hey. Vampire Lady. Did I hear that you turn into a wolf sometimes? I sure know that feeling". This is a reference to Sonic Unleashed where Sonic transforms into a Werehog after night falls.
- When Sonic interacts with Bart Simpson from The Simpsons, Sonic will tell him if he sees a gold brick, that he should "just take it! Take it, take it, take it, take it! Take it!". This is a reference to a cameo of Sonic that appeared in the episode "Marge Be Not Proud" from The Simpsons.
- When Sonic interacts with Peter Venkman he will say "Hey, a Ghostbuster! I saw this creepy doll that kinda looks like my friend Tails. Think you could take a look?" This is an reference to Tails Doll, a character that appeared in Sonic R and the numerous fan-made ghost stories and "creepypastas" that have been made about it.
- When Sonic interacts with Green Arrow, the latter will say "Sonic, you ever thought about changing the name from "Green Hill Zone" to...wait for it..."Green ARROW Zone"? Huh? Huh? Or how about "Emerald ARCHER Zone"? Huh? Better? How about this: "Mystic ARROW Cave"? Heh heh...I have, like, twelve more of these." These are references to the Green Hill Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), and Emerald Hill Zone and Mystic Cave Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
- When Hermione Granger hops into the Tornado, she will say "This is wonderful! I'm floating around at the speed of sound! Who needs broomsticks, anyway?" This is a reference to the opening lyrics to "Escape from the City".
- When teamed up with Cragger from Legends of Chima (who is crocodile), Sonic will momentarily mistake him for Vector.
- When riding the Sonic Speedster, Supergirl will quip that the song "Super Sonic Racing" should be changed to "Super Girl Racing".
- If the Doctor is there, Sonic will say "Hey, you're THE Doctor, right? I heard you named a screwdriver after me! How cool is that?!" This is a reference to the Sonic Screwdriver that the Doctor uses in his franchise.
- When speaking to Gollum, Sonic will say "So, you're into collecting rings too, huh? Yeah, they're pretty precious." This is a reference to Gollum's obsession with the One Ring in the Lord of the Rings franchise and how he kept referring to it as his "precious."
- When there are two Sonic figures on the toy pad, Sonic will occasionally say "I've found you, Faker!" This is the same line Sonic said in Sonic Adventure 2 when he meets Shadow the Hedgehog for the second time.
- He may also quip "I'll make you eat those words!", a reference to the same line Sonic said in Sonic Adventure 2 when he meets Shadow the Hedgehog for the second time.
- He may also say “Hey! That’s my line!”, a reference to the same line Sonic said in Sonic Heroes when his team is about to battle Team Dark.
- When Sonic rides K.I.T.T., the car will state that Shadow tried to buy him and that K.I.T.T. must be his type of vehicle. This is likely a reference to the cars Shadow rides in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) and Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed, which bear a slight resemblance to K.I.T.T..
- Sonic will ask Cyborg if Eggman "roboticized" him when both are placed on the Toy Pad together. This is a reference to the SatAM series.
- When Sonic interacts with Homer Simpson, he will say "Shaving off your moustache and putting on a white shirt won't fool me, Eggman. I still know it's you!", referencing their similar girth, lack of hair on their heads, and possibly Homer's many amoral actions over his show's run.
Level Pack[]
- The first Sonic cutscene for the game is based on the title screen for the first Sonic game, but with Sonic waving a ring rather than his finger due to not having one, just claw hands.
- In the second cutscene, Dr. Eggman can be seen juggling the Chaos Emeralds similarly to how he does on the bad ending screen of the original Sonic the Hedgehog.
- Dr. Eggman mentions that he and Sonic have been arch-enemies for 25 years. This is a reference to the Sonic series' 25th anniversary, which occurred when this pack was released.
- The boat Sonic uses the pieces of to build the Sonic Speedster resembles the Speed Star's boat mode in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
- In Emerald Coast, Eggman almost calls himself "Dr. Robotnik", but stops himself and calls himself Eggman. This is a reference to the inconsistency of Eggman's name early on in the series, with "Eggman" being his native name in Japan and "Robotnik" being his name in Western territories. This still remains a subject of dispute in the fanbase.
- This is further referenced by the boss fight following immediately after, where Sonic mockingly refers to Eggman as "Fatty Lobotnik".
- During the first boss battle, Eggman calls Sonic "Needlemouse", which is a reference to "Mr. Needlemouse", a mistranslation of Sonic's original name.
- During the first boss fight against Dr. Eggman, Sonic will claim his mustache is fake, referencing an unused line from Omochao in Sonic Adventure 2.
- Sonic calls Eggman "Baldy McNosehair" as he did in Sonic Colors and Sonic Lost World.
- During a cutscene, a Sega Genesis can been seen falling out of a wormhole.
- Two of the robots that must be destroyed during the Metropolis Zone level are E-Series models.
- Throughout the Marble Zone level, Omochao will appear and keep telling Sonic what he would need to do in order to progress, despite it being obvious, much to the hedgehog’s chagrin. This is a reference as to how players would find it annoying in games as to how Omochao will provide information despite it being blatantly obvious, making him one of the most hated characters.
- In the Marble Zone, the infamous "Barrel of Doom" appears. Omochao even refers to it by the name given to it by the fans and references the players' frustrations with it.
- This is additionally referenced in the Carnival Night area of the Adventure World, where Omochao again refers to the barrels by this name. A few of the titular barrels even appear as platforms for the player to stand on.
- At one point in the game, Shadow bears a gun and Knuckles quickly takes off his boxing glove (revealing a normal glove underneath in the process) and throws it away. This is a likely reference to some of the backlash that the video game Shadow the Hedgehog received regarding Shadow's use of firearms.
- In the cutscene when Big mentions the details of Labyrinth Zone, Sonic briefly flashes back to a 16-bit version of himself drowning (complete with the drowning music), a reference to how many players found the level difficult to complete without drowning.
- If a character who normally dies in water (e.g. the Wicked Witch of the West or Gizmo) is active during the Labyrinth Zone level, they will receive an Aqua Shield whenever they enter the water.
- Whilst fighting the Death Egg Robot in the level pack, Sonic mentions it's "the fourth time [Eggman's] used it". This is a reference to the Death Egg Robot boss battles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I, and Sonic Generations.
- Dr. Eggman repeatedly says "Get a load of this!" as a part of his dialogue. During the Death Egg Robot fight, Dr. Eggman even stops to ask out loud if he has said that already. This is a reference to the Egg Walker boss battle in Sonic Adventure, in which this line is repeated excessively.
- Whilst fighting Chaos and transforming to Super Sonic, Sonic will exclaim "I'm taking you down like it's 1999." This is a reference to the American and European release dates of Sonic Adventure as well as the International version release of the same game in Japan and Chaos's introduction into the series.
Adventure World[]
LEGO Dimensions & Knuckles[]
- The quest name itself is a reference to the famous "& Knuckles" meme within the fanbase, spawning from Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
- Knuckles will occasionally spout or reference lyrics from tracks that are played in his stages from Sonic Adventure 2, namely "Kick the Rock!" (Wild Canyon), "A Ghost's Pumpkin Soup" (Pumpkin Hill), "Dive into the Mellow" (Aquatic Mine), "Deeper" (Death Chamber), and "Space Trip Steps" (Meteor Herd), as well as his theme song, "Unknown from M.E.".
- Knuckles may mention that he might need a bandage if he gets hit by one of the Badniks. This is most likely a reference to the highly divisive sports tape-heavy character designs in Sonic Boom.
- When all the Badniks are defeated, Knuckles mentions a "bat" as one of the potential culprits of stealing the Master Emerald. This is a reference to Rouge the Bat.
Tale of Tails[]
- When Tails is leading the player to the first Robot Generator, he will comment on the fact that he is usually the one following everyone around, and not leading. This is a reference to how Tails is the designated second player in most of the classic Sonic games he appears in.
- The robot transporters (referred to as "robot generators") from Sonic the Hedgehog CD make an appearance during the quest. Tails even mentions how they were used by Eggman to spread Badniks. Additionally, destroying such machines causes Little Planet flowers to blossom.
- Tails mentions roboticization (spelled as "roboticisation") in conjunction with the robot generators. The context in which it is used however, is slightly wrong; in Sonic spin-off media, "roboticization" is the process where organic beings are turned into machines, and the animals in LEGO Dimensions are just used as organic batteries for the robots rather than being converted into robots.
Big's Big Fishing Adventure 4[]
- Big's mission is titled "Big's Big Fishing Adventure 4". This is a reference to the commissioned fan game Big's Big Fishing Adventure 3 considering this quest as a "sequel".
- Big says that whenever Froggy goes missing he always gets in trouble. This is a reference to how Froggy ran away from him multiple times in Sonic Adventure and how Metal Sonic kidnapped him in Sonic Heroes.
- Big will occasionally sing the lyrics to his theme when doing the mission.
- When the player completes Big the Cat's mission, he may remark that he's receiving a call from somebody named "Sanic", a reference to how Sonic's name is frequently (and usually intentionally) misspelled by some fans and as a meme.
Rose to the Rescue[]
- When interacting with Amy in the Adventure World and during the "Rose to the Rescue" quest, Amy will mention some of her past adventures. These include Metal Sonic's kidnapping of her in Sonic the Hedgehog CD, her quest to reunite a birdie with its family in Sonic Adventure, how she broke Sonic out of Prison Island in Sonic Adventure 2, and her infiltration of the Egg Fleet to save Froggy and Chocola in Sonic Heroes.
A Floral Dilemma[]
- During the intro to the mission, Shadow mentions that Maria wanted him to "bring hope to humanity". In Sonic Battle, these were the exact same words Maria was claimed to have said before she died.
- When the player successfully places one of the flower arrangements, Shadow will say "Hmm. Perfect!" This is the same quote said by Shadow when he gets an A Rank in Shadow the Hedgehog, as well as clearing a level in Expert Mode.
- After completing the "A Floral Dilemma" quest, Shadow will say "It all starts with this... An arrangement containing the ultimate flowers!" This is a reference to his line in Sonic Adventure 2: "It all starts with this... A jewel containing the ultimate power!"
Eggman’s Master Plan[]
- When approaching Dr. Eggman in the Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure World, he will say "Hohoho, YOSH! This time I'm sure to catch that heinous hedgehog!". The world "Yosh" is a reference to an untranslated line of dialog for Dr. Eggman when petting a Chao in Sonic Adventure 2.
- Eggman may also say this line when riding the Egg Mobile in the Death Egg Zone in the Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure World.
- Upon finding one of the chili dogs, Eggman will say "I see you've found a chili dog! Hmmm, this one appears to contain some really mean beans... Oh, fun fact: I used to have a machine that made those! It was a rather, uh...niche market." This is a reference to the video game Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.
- After finding another one of the chili dogs, Eggman will say "No way! I can't believe this! Orbot just unfriended me on Eggbook. He's not going to get away with this! What? You found a chili dog? Yes, yes, good job...now, how do I send a thumbs down on this thing?" The line "No way! I can't believe this!" and "He's not going to get away with this!" are the same ones used by Dr. Eggman during the Egg Walker boss fight in Sonic Adventure.
Miscellaneous[]
- Sonic will sometimes say "I can really feel the sunshine. It's brightening up my day!" while running around the Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure World. This is a reference to the song "Can You Feel the Sunshine?" from Sonic R.
- When riding the Egg Mobile in the Death Egg Zone in the Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure World, Dr. Eggman will occasionally say "You know what they say, the more the merrier!". This is a reference to a repeating line said during the Egg Breaker boss battle in Shadow the Hedgehog.
- Eggman may also say "It's no use! Give up!". This is a reference to a repeating line said during the Egg Walker boss battle in Sonic Adventure.
- Tails' Lab is modeled after its design in Sonic the Fighters.
- Although the Ice Cap area in the Adventure World is moreso based off the incarnation in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, when the player initiates the snowboarding race the music is changed to that of the level in Sonic Adventure.
- The Death Egg mini-level in the Adventure World uses Crazy Gadget’s music, which may possibly be a reference to the fact that the Zone in Sonic & Knuckles (Which the mini-level is based off of) and Crazy Gadget both make use of gravity-switching mechanics.
Miscellaneous[]

- The Sonic Speedster has three recolors based on Metal Sonic, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Super Sonic.
- The Tornado's appearance is based on its appearance in Sonic Adventure. Upgrading it allows its design to be replaced with the design for the Tornado Racer, the Tornado 2 and the Tornado from the Genesis games. The Tornado 2 design also appears in the level and Tails' Lab.
Cast[]
Reception[]
The level pack got positive reviews from critics. Chris Carter from Destructoid praised how Sonic is well migrated with the game's engine, being as fast as in a Genesis game with elements of Sonic Adventure in the 2D old school legacy, although he criticized the strain on framerate on the Xbox One version, and the soundtrack being of replications rather than like in the original games.[3] Similarly, Doctor MK from Sonic Stadium remarked the framerate drops on the Wii U version and the repetition of story progression and missions in addition to that, but also admired the "incredible attention to details".[4]
The UK site Metro gave the level pack 8 of 10, commending the sense of speed that is put into the game, and the hub world of it being "a thing of beauty".[5]
Trivia[]
- This pack was released on the same date as Sonic R (nineteen years later), Traveller's Tales' previous Sonic game.
- Big the Cat is the only main character to appear in game not to have his current actor of Kyle Hebert. Instead, he is voiced by Oliver Wyman.
- However, in the Italian dub, Claudio Moneta, Andrea De Nisco, Sabrina Bonfitto and Aldo Stella do not retake their characters of Shadow, Big, Omochao and Eggman respectively.
- LEGO Dimensions have Studs as the game's form of currency. The studs are replaced with rings similar to those used in the Lord of the Rings sets. They even sound like rings when Sonic collects them.
- Getting hit by Badniks will make you lose studs, similar to being defeated if the health gauge is empty, and these lost studs will have the same gameplay logic from studs found from breaking scenery objects in Adventure Worlds making it possible to recollect them before they vanish.
- The enemy LEGO Buzz Bombers come in two colors, purple and yellow. This is because they are based on the Buzz Bombers from Sonic Generations which come in these colors.
- The yellow Buzz Bombers are based after the Buzzers, the successor Badniks to the Buzz Bombers.
- Sonic appears in the 2016 Ghostbusters Adventure World as a parade balloon. Likewise, a ghost parade balloon version of Dr. Eggman is a boss in the Story Pack alongside ghost versions of Buzz Bombers and Moto Bugs as minor enemies.
- Although non-canon, this is the first time that Mecha Sonic and the Super Emeralds have appeared in a game in years (not counting remakes).
- In-game, due to Sonic's inability to swim, he wears a life jacket and swims using the backstroke. However, Super Sonic wears shades and does not wear a life jacket, making the water hot.
- This is his second time as a toy that can be used in games, the first time being an amiibo made for the Super Smash Bros. series.
- Another idle animation has Sonic looking at his wrist, and tapping his foot. This is a reference to the original idle animations in the original 1991 game.
- Sonic currently has the least abilities of any year 2 level pack character.
- Sonic is one of the only playable characters that's fast enough to run on water so far.
- When Knuckles prepares to throw away Shadow's gun, he removes one of his gloves, revealing a smaller glove.
- Two robots that look like a Guard Robo and E-104 Epsilon appear as generic robots that Sonic must disable in Metropolis Zone.
- A breakable statue of Aquaman appears in Labyrinth Zone.
- In a promotional LEGO Dimensions advertisement, entitled "Meet That Hero", Sonic introduces the viewer to Michael Knight and K.I.T.T. of the Knight Rider franchise.
- Textures related to Espio the Chameleon and Charmy Bee were found in the game's files, but neither character has appeared anywhere in-game as of the release of the final wave of Year 2 content in September 2017.
- In The Powerpuff Girls world, there is a puzzle that requires the player to use the Locate Keystone to summon an Item Box.
- This would be the last time Laura Bailey voices Omochao.
- In one cutscene where Sonic meets up with his friends again after getting the sixth Emerald, Batman, Gandalf and Wyldstyle (Lucy) make a small cameo appearance before heading off, saying their departing lines.
- Because LEGO Dimensions features both a Danish and Latin Spanish dub, this marks as the first and only time that the Sonic the Hedgehog series has received both a Danish and Latin Spanish dub for the games, albeit non-canonical nor is a true "Sonic" game.[6]
- This level pack marks the first time that Ángel de Gracia voices Sonic the Hedgehog in any video game in general, as he would become his then-new official Spanish voice actor due to Jonatán López's retirement in 2016.
