The Sonic the Hedgehog Ice Cream Bar, also known as the "Blue Bunny Sonic the Hedgehog Bar," is a frozen treat manufactured by Wells Enterprises under their Blue Bunny brand and is made to look like Sonic.
The ice cream bar first debuted in 1995 and quickly became a financial success for the company. Still in production today, it is widely regarded as one of the most successful character-based ice cream bars ever made.[1] Since its release, there have been five different packaging designs.
Description[]
Shaped to resemble the blue blur, this ice cream bar features a combination of blue raspberry and cherry flavors, and originally had eye pupils which were two small black gumballs. This was changed in 2004 to green gumballs to match the character's more modern appearance since Sonic Adventure.
According to the label, each bar contains 100 calories, with zero fat or protein, and is primarily composed of sugar and artificial flavors. The ingredients include Blue 1, Red 40, and several gums such as guar and xanthan to achieve the unique texture.[2]
Legacy[]

A well-known quirk of the product is that the gumball eyes often end up misaligned, creating some amusing, if not bizarre, variations of Sonic's appearance. This has led to a popular trend on YouTube and TikTok to find a perfect Sonic Popsicle, as they are very rare to find.
The ice cream bar has also been referenced in other pieces of Sonic media. In a piece of artwork posted for New Year's 2021, Dr. Eggman and Metal Sonic are seen selling the ice cream bars. On the RI cover for Sonic the Hedgehog: Endless Summer, it featured not only Sonic, but Tangle, Whisper, and Jewel as melting popsicles. The ice cream bar was also used as currency for the Summer Shop in Sonic Speed Simulator.
Jakks Pacific has also released a blue raspberry-scented Ice Cream Bar Sonic jumbo plush, exclusive to GameStop, complete with packaging inspired by the ice cream bar.[3] The company would later release a chocolate-scented Ice Cream Bar Shadow the Hedgehog-themed jumbo plush also exclusive to GameStop.[4]
Trivia[]
- The ice cream bar is mainly sold by ice cream trucks throughout the United States and Canada, but it can also be purchased online from various ice cream websites and found in convenience stores.[5]
