Plot[]
Differences between the book and film series[]
- Shadow's escape from Prison Island is omitted.
- Shadow is depicted as desiring revenge from the very beginning and he had been in contact with Gerald Robotnik right after Gerald freed him.
- Shadow's vendetta against Commander Walters is made more apparent. When he is surrounded by G.U.N at Shibuya, he demanded for Walters to be brought to him instead of demanding to be left alone.
- Shadow is shown capable of using Chaos Control without using a Chaos Emerald.
- Director Rockwell voices her distrust and resentment directly to Team Sonic when she picked them up at the campsite and before they jumped off the helicopter, mainly because they refused to reveal the location of the Master Emerald.
- After Sonic and Shadow clashed, which led to the city-wide black-out, Sonic is still conscious, but is soon knocked out and handcuffed by Shadow shortly afterwards before the black-out ended.
- When Walters meet Team Sonic at Chao Garden, he shows old footages of Shadow to them from his laptop while explaining about the black hedgehog.
- Walters is only unconscious after he gave the key to Sonic.
- Team Sonic escape from Chao Garden after listening from Walters' radio call that Director Rockwell orders all G.U.N members to kill any non-human beings on the scene.
- Shadow and Gerald are depicted to have a more business-like relationship, only trusting each other due to their shared desire for revenge against G.U.N.
- There's an additional flashback of Shadow overhearing Walters and a G.U.N scientist having an argument. The scientist objected to Maria's presence in the facility, with Walters justifying that Maria's presence pacify Shadow and make him obedient.
- Maria is said to like scribbling walls on the facility. In her room, she made a doodle of herself and Shadow, which reminded Sonic of his doodle of himself and Longclaw back in his cave.
- When confronting Shadow for the second time, Sonic tries to convince Shadow not to pursue revenge before he got knocked out and chained by the latter.
- The infiltration mission at G.U.N base in London goes differently:
- Tom, Maddie, and Tails are handcuffed when they were brought into the vault.
- The gravity control at the vault is destroyed when Knuckles broke in instead of the echidna taking the controller from Rockwell. As the result, a fight occurs between Team Sonic, G.U.N, and the Robotniks.
- Tom disguised himself as Walters in the middle of the fight to take the key from Rockwell.
- After Shadow punched Tom, his hologram disguise didn't disappear immediately. Shadow only realized that Tom is not Walters after Sonic called out his name. Additionally, he only felt sorry for Sonic instead of recalling the moment when Maria died.
- When Sonic demands Knuckles for the Master Emerald, Knuckles insists on keeping quiet, but he made a slip that made Sonic realized Wade Whipple has it, prompting Sonic to run back to Green Hills while Knuckles and Tails followed after him using the ring, but arrived too late to stop him.
- The entire third act is omitted, with the final page urging the reader to watch the movie to know the continuation.
