Sonic the Hedgehog 25th Anniversary Art Book is a hardcover art book published by Cook & Becker. This book showcases the visual history of the Sonic the Hedgehog series from 1991 to 2016, containing design sketches, official illustrations, in-game sprites, promotional art, and box art. The book also contains never-before-seen artwork, and features interviews with key designers and artists who have worked on the series, including Yuji Naka, Takashi Iizuka, Kazuyuki Hoshino and Yuji Uekawa.
The book was originally set to be released in April 2017, but was delayed to May 2017 as the book did not meet quality standards. It was further delayed until June 2017 when the second printing did not meet the quality standards either, and the publisher had to switch to a new printer. Separate Standard Editions and special Collector’s Editions were made available during the release.
Due to supplies of the book starting to run out in early 2019, instead of simply reprinting the book, Cook & Becker decided to create an updated version with thirty-two extra pages titled Sonic the Hedgehog Art & Design Book. It was made available in late 2019, and contained material from the three main Sonic games released since the release of the original book.
The Collector's Edition comes with the hardcover book, and a separate dust-jacket for it. They come in an outer box, designed with a modern take on the Japanese Sonic 1 box art, and it has an inner sleeve that can fold into a display stand for the book. This edition also contains an exclusive hand-numbered 12 color screen print by Yuji Uekawa.
