The manga caused a slur among the Sonic Community. Some argued the illustrations were of poor standard, whilst others regarded as the art as having a professional comic appearance. ''Dash & Spin'' was never published outside of Japan, nor in any language other than Japanese, and is therefore hard to find elsewhere.

The Sonic the Hedgehog manga series was based off the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The series, published in Shogakukan's Shogaku Yonensei (literally "fourth-year student") was written by Kenji Terada and it was illustrated by Sango Norimoto.

The manga, which started in 1992, was about a hedgehog boy named Nicky who can turn into Sonic the Hedgehog. Along with Miles "Tails" Prower, Sonic fights Dr. Eggman (known at that time as "Dr. Ivo Robotnik").

Nicky has several friends in the "real world", including little John, his girlfriend Amy (a prototype/first of Amy Rose), a lizard bully named Anton Beruuka with his little brother, Matt, and Charmy (a prototype/first incarnation of Charmy Bee). Nicky's family at home includes his mother, Brenda, his father, Paulie, and his little sister, Anita.

Dash & Spin (Subtitled Chousoku Sonikku) is a 2-part published manga illustrated by Santa Harukaze. Dash & Spin was printed via the Japanese manga magazine Coro Coro Comics, who are famous for publishing many manga adaptations of video games (including adaptations of Super Mario Bros. and Rockman.EXE (MegaMan NT Warrior)). Dash & Spin is licensed by Sega and is therefore deemed official.

The manga caused a slur among the Sonic Community. Some argued the illustrations were of poor standard, whilst others regarded as the art as having a professional comic appearance. Dash & Spin was never published outside of Japan, nor in any language other than Japanese, and is therefore hard to find elsewhere.

Dash & Spin's volumes comprise of several short stories, including omake koma stories, published as an anthology. The stories are often very slapstick. One such story depicts Dr. Robotnik taking control over a child's play area and trying to defeat Sonic using glue. Dash & Spin includes many Sonic the Hedgehog characters, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose and Dr. Robotnik. Shockingly, despite the early release all of the characters have their Sonic Adventure designs from their first appearance in the manga.

Dash & Spin finished publishing with Volume 2 in February 2005.
