Sonic the Hedgehog is the main protagonist of the upcoming TV series, Sonic Boom.

Appearance
Appearance
Retaining most of his appearance from his main series video game counterpart, Sonic has blue fur all around his body, with minor exceptions such as his chest and muzzle. He sports a brown scarf and has straps of linen on his hands, parts of his arms, and around his feet. Unlike his previous incarnations, his arms are also covered in blue fur. He has some cowlick-like spikes that stick out from his quills and his shoes are kept locked on by straps of linen lined on his legs. Sonic also appears to be much slimmer than his video game counterpart, making him tall and lanky.
+
Sonic retains most of the appearance from his main series counterpart, but has a few physical differences. He is much slimmer, with longer arms and legs and more pronounced shoulders, giving him a lanky appearance. His hands are also noticeably smaller. Sonic's quills are also slightly shorter and messier, having some cowlick-like spikes that sticks out from his top and lower quills, and his arms are covered in blue fur, as opposed to being skin-colored. Sonic also has a visible neck, although it is usually covered by his scarf.

History
+
For attire, Sonic wears a pair of white gloves with cuffs and a pair of red sneakers with white cuffs, grey soles, and a rectangular gold buckle on top. He also has white sports tape wrapped around the palms of his gloves, the heels of his sneakers (to reinforce his shoes) and his lower forearms and legs. Finally, he sports a brown neckerchief. He also occasionally wears his Communicator.
While chasing Dr. Eggman into a canyon, Sonic arrived at a mine where Dr. Eggman brought forth Burn Bot to destroy him. After Sonic gave his two cents on the robot's "false advertisement" of the name, he was chased by Burn Bot. As the two of them were about to clash at the bottom of the canyon, Tails appeared in his plane and let down an energy rope, which Sonic used to knock Burn Bot away. When Burn Bot then made Tails crash his plane, Sonic concocted and put into action a plan to get Burn Bot trapped under some boulders, then ran to Tails' aid.

Personality
Personality
Sonic is noted for having a passion for adventure. He is full of self-confidence, cocky, quick-witted, and takes challenges and his opponents light-hearted. He also has a lot of attitude, showing a lot of sarcasm and sassiness, and a narcissistic tongue. However, when the situation calls for it or his friends are in trouble, Sonic can be serious and will immediately try to come to their aid.
+
Much like the wind, Sonic is free-spirited and always on the move. He has a passion for adventure and is very much a thrill-seeker and adrenaline junkie, always looking for the next thrill, challenge, and triumph. For Sonic, speed is a way of life; he runs fast, thinks fast, and even eats fast. Being addicted to speed and action, Sonic gets bored and restless during extended times of peace. In fact, Sonic cannot process the aspect of being restricted and being unable to move around very much makes him extremely stir crazy. He acts on instinct and lives in the moment, though he is very impatient, impulsive and tends to run headlong into trouble without a plan. While he can be shortsighted of others' feelings (making him blunt, honest, and rude to a fault), his heart is nevertheless always in the right place. being fully committed to helping out those in need at all times. Sonic also does not back down or give up, because he has an unwavering belief and faith in himself and his abilities. Sonic is also noted to be very courageous. However, he suffers from a severe case of aquaphobia which has only worsened with time. He is also a bit of a slob at times, and chores do not sit well with him.
Sonic's most notable skill is his ability to move at super speed, allowing him to run at speeds greater than Mach 1. Though his exact top speed is unknown, he can move fast enough to create a sonic boom without effort.

In line with his speed, Sonic has significant acrobatic skills and agility, sufficient enough to perform perfect synchronized mid-air movements. He also have astonishing reflexes, being able to react instantly to dangers. He also has enhanced jumping skills, allowing him to jump very high into the air.
+
While he often acts like he does not care, Sonic is rather protective of his image. To this end, he will get rid of any documentation and preferably dodge any performance that does not show him looking cool, even if it means his friends will look bad. He is likewise uncomfortable about being open about his feelings and actively tries to dodge such conversations, presumably because he considers them uncool. He does not like it when other express themselves either. However, he is willing to lower his guard for the sake of his friends. Sonic can also get rather over-competitive when contending with another, prompting him to let things get way out of hand out of overconfidence. In case he loses a competition, Sonic becomes obsessed and borderline crazy about settling the score with his opponent, as he cannot accept the fact that he can actually lose. Despite having his own fair share of quirks and willing to fool around just for the sake of it though, Sonic is very grounded and has a profound common sense that often makes him the "straight man" amongst his friends.

Appearances in Other Media
+
Though rather selfless when saving the Village, Sonic does come off as somewhat sensitive about his hero-status, becoming extremely jealous, defensive, and frustrated whenever someone else rivals his fame, steals the spotlight or when the civilians turn against him. As such, when deprived of the chance to be the hero, Sonic gladly springs into action when he gets the opportunity to save the day in the end. This mindset even led to him temporarily retiring due to how ungrateful the citizens were for his efforts. Sonic also appears in the Sonic Boom video game. The game serves as a prequel to the TV series, which tells the player about Sonic and his friends Tails, Amy and Knuckles as they come to an unknown island to battle an ancient evil. Sonic is one of the four playable characters in the game, the others being Tails, Amy and Knuckles. In the game, Sonic enters high-speed running sections and can use moves such as the Homing Attack.

Sonic possesses significant physical strength, though not on the same level as Knuckles. He can kick a robot hard enough to knock it through a rock wall, his spinning maneuvers can smash through walls, and he can punch with enough force to cause cracks and release shock waves, though it is debatable whether it is due to his super speed, his strength, or a combination of both. Additionally, Sonic can even run at maximum speed while weighted down by objects larger than him. Sonic is also shown to have incredible durability, having survived several laser blasts from powerful Destruction Troops which were meant to kill him.

One of his signature moves is the Spin Dash, a nearly unavoidable move where Sonic spins on the spot before blasting off at full speed which can destroy most foes with a single strike. Sonic has mastered this move to perfection, being able to use it with enough precision to weld metal fences together from friction. While not a strategist like Tails, Sonic has a very quick wit and has often come up with his own plans to take down his enemies. He is also a skilled combatant, and his fighting style relies on his footwork styles along with fast-strike tactics and quick maneuvers.

Sonic wields a Communicator, a multifunctional and waterproof smartwatch created by Tails. This device allows Sonic wide-ranged radio communication between similar devices. It can as well generate its own Enerbeam (an energy tether that can latch onto objects or form a makeshift whip/rope), run mobile apps, tell the time, interface with Sonic's tech-based equipment for remote operation, and assume other powers. It also comes with its own tracking device.

For opponents that require a little more muscle, Sonic has a mech suit from the Ancients that he found in some ruins. This mech suit makes Sonic much more powerful, granting him increased strength without sacrificing agility or swiftness. It is also highly durable, capable of high-speed flight, and comes equipped with force-fields and lasers. The mech suit initially had a chip that corrupted Sonic's personality the more he used the mech suit, but after the chip was removed, he can now fully control it.

At times, the two have even been known to hang out together, though Sonic normally retains his general dislike and annoyance of the doctor. When Eggman claimed to be homeless, Sonic even allowed him to stay at Tails' home, though it was more on the grounds of proving himself the better person.

Sonic and Tails often hang out or go on adventures together by themselves, unlike most other of Sonic's friends, showcasing just how close the two are. There is rarely strife between them, and they have proven themselves a near-perfect duo; both provides strengths to the other's weaknesses (Sonic handles the muscle while Tails handles the smarts) and neither of them would get far without the other's aid. In addition, they work well together in combat. Conversely, they are just as willing to engage in friendly competitions with each other simply for fun. However, their competitions may not always turn out well due to Sonic's overconfidence and Tails' zeal. Also, while Sonic and Tails enjoy each other's company, they are still very different people, and being together for too long tend to make them bicker; Tails himself has pointed out that while they are best friends, they are not the best of roommates. Regardless of whatever issues that may arise between them however, Sonic and Tails respect and care for each other so much that both of them are unable to hold a grudge at the other for long. They are also willing to share the blame when they know they are both at fault, and will always make up on a good note when they find themselves in a dispute. Even so though, Sonic is not above having Tails take his place in otherwise embarrassing situations, or playing a few harmless pranks on him.
 +
 +
Though he might put Tails in danger with his half-baked plans, Sonic cares very much for his well-being, and will take care of him whenever he behaves oddly. Sonic will also not hesitate to push himself beyond his limits to protect Tails; when Hypnobot tried to finish Tails, Sonic rushed to save him despite having an injured leg. At the same time, Sonic has been known to be overprotective of Tails, like when he fired Tails as his sidekick after a brutal battle so that he would not get hurt. Sonic is likewise completely comfortable about hanging out with Amy. However, like most of his teamates, he is very afraid of her temperament. Also, Sonic usually tries to ignore Amy's suggestions to be more emotionally open about their feelings.
 +
 +
Due to Amy's tendency to take charge, Sonic perceives Amy as extremely overbearing and bossy which brings her at odds with his own laid-back attitude. He is also not very fond of Amy's ideas for group activities. However, while Sonic sometimes acts inconsiderate to Amy, he still appreciates her as a friend and teammate, and will try making up with her whenever he has upset her. In fact, Sonic cannot stand watching Amy cry, and will willingly talk about their feelings (something which he is extremely reluctant about) if it will help Amy feel better.

Sonic often claims to have no interest in Amy's love life and is quick to avoid or deny any indication that he is in a relationship with her. This includes denying Amy was his girlfriend with suppressed anger when she was addressed as such by Dr. Eggman. He further insists when he shows that he cares for her that he and Amy are merely comrades-in-arms. Nonetheless, there are hints that indicate that Sonic may have some feelings for her deep down. ====Knuckles the Echidna====
 +

 +
Knuckles the Echidna is another of Sonic's close friends and teammates. However, the two of them are opposites in many ways, with Sonic being sensible, cool, and snarky while Knuckles is goofy, dim-witted and always disagreeing with him. Sonic in particular likes to tease Knuckles and does not think he is the sharpest tool in the shed, viewing him as a simpleton that always messes up without his supervision.
 +
 +
Sonic and Knuckles share a mutual bond of respect, though it was not always like this. During their mission to stop Lyric, Sonic was often reprimanded by Knuckles for all the mishaps he caused. Over time though, Sonic slowly reconciled with Knuckles and eventually made up with him. Nowadays, Sonic and Knuckles are deep down the truest of friends (though they will never really admit it), referring to each others as "bros." Even when Knuckles turns against him, Sonic refuses to hurt him when it comes to blows. To Knuckles in particular, Sonic helps fill out the kind of loneliness he gets about being the last of his kind by being the family he longs for. Akin to Tails, Sonic can also be very selfless for Knuckles' sake; even though it meant facing Amy's wrath, Sonic willingly forfeited his chances to avoid it in order to save Knuckles from Obliterator Bot.
 +
 +
Both Sonic and Knuckles have a friendly rivalry going on and they tend to compete with each other in all kinds of activities. Though Sonic normally remains cool about their rivalry since he usually wins, he rejects the idea of losing to Knuckles on purpose.

Sticks the Badger
 +
Sticks the Badger is a member of Sonic's crew and one of his closest friends. The two are alike in the sense that they "go running into danger without a plan, a direction, or a clue," though it usually falls on Sonic to be the more sensible of them. Like his other friends, Sonic is normally unnerved by Sticks' paranoia and stays skeptical about her theories and judgement in general. Additionally, he feels very uncomfortable when he actually finds himself agreeing with her crackpot theories. He also once hesitated to tell her that Lyric had kidnapped Amy, showing a degree of fear for her outbursts. Nonetheless, Sonic accepts Sticks' quirks and will apologize for doubting her when he is proven wrong. Likewise, Sonic thinks she is a very nice person deep down.
 +
 +
Very loyal to Sticks, Sonic likes her penchant for tackling foes head-on and considers her a valued teammate. In spite of his personal dislikes, he will also agree to help Sticks with her tasks at hand, like being her escort to a gala and going pet shopping with her. Once though, he considered himself a better survival expert than Sticks until she put him in his place.

Villagers
 +
Due to his heroic actions, Sonic is well-known and beloved by the inhabitants of Hedgehog Village, and is highly respected for protecting them. At times (despite usually regarding him as a normal guy), they have been known to treat him like a celebrity of sorts, hosting a celebration after he (and his team) saved the village one million times, watching him with piqued interest whenever he makes a scene, constantly bringing him up on the news, and occasionally asking him for his autograph. At the same time, however, the villagers tend to be rather critical of Sonic, openly judging and shunning him for his behavior in public and his suspicion of Eggman when he appears innocent. When doing so, however, the villagers often take things too far, even going so far as to side with those who are against Sonic, and completely disregard his good deeds, usually leaving Sonic frustrated (one time to the point that he temporarily retired), though it usually takes no more than another act of heroism to win them back over. Though the rest of his team is often treated in a similar fashion, Sonic tends to take more of the backlash than anyone else.
 +
 +
Lightning Bolt Society
 +
Despite being enemies, Sonic does not think highly about the Lightning Bolt Society. Like most others, he thinks they are a bunch of losers and hardly considers them a threat. Among this group, Sonic's most persistent foe is Dave the Intern who often tries to destroy him (when not serving him at Meh Burger), though Sonic hardly spares him a thought. Nevertheless, though Sonic often ignores their usually minor schemes, he will not hesitate to stop the Lightning Bolt Society whenever they stir up too much trouble.

Shadow the Hedgehog
Shadow the Hedgehog is Sonic's arch-rival, who can match him in both speed, abilities and dashing looks. Outside physical similarities though, Shadow is the antithesis to all that Sonic is. Whereas Sonic is joyful, free-spirited and adventurous, Shadow is a brooding, serious and violently aggressive individual. While Sonic relies on his team and believes in teamwork, Shadow is a loner who only relies on himself. Shadow is by far, the only one who can defeat Sonic in fair combat. Sonic's rivalry with Shadow is hostile to the point of them being enemies, but regardless, they are willing to put their differences aside for when a greater threat is present.
 +
 +
Sonic and Shadow share a bitter arch-rivalry which goes way back. Between the two of them, Sonic is much more lucid about their rivalry, with Sonic normally approaching Shadow in his usual casual manner or being willing to walk away from him, whereas Shadow is quick to pick a fight. In fact, Sonic retains a neutral attitude when talking about Shadow, and has no real beef with the black hedgehog that provokes him to fight him. However, Sonic is easily angered by the way Shadow criticizes him for being weak, and they usually end up arguing when they strike a conversation. Regardless, Sonic has admitted that if Shadow was not such a "hard case", he would be a great addition to Team Sonic. He has also admitted that Shadow is one tough customer, displaying great respect for Shadow's skills.

Lyric the Last Ancient
 +

 +
In Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, Sonic had a deep relationship with Lyric the Last Ancient, having been the one who stopped his plans a millennia ago via time-travel. Sonic himself viewed Lyric as a "slithering psycho." When first meeting Lyric after accidentally freeing him, Sonic was confused over Lyric's knowledge of him and his grudge at him (since Sonic had yet to stop him in the past). As he learned of his story with Lyric, Sonic became surprisingly determined to stop his plans to destroy the world, to the point where he would bear the responsibility alone since he had set Lyric loose. In the end though, Sonic saw he could not defeat Lyric alone and involved his team. Debunking Lyric's taunts of how his friends were his weakness in their final fight, Sonic beat Lyric with some aid and saved the world, redeeming himself for releasing Lyric.
 +
 +
In Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal, Sonic had a less prominent, but still antagonistic relationship with Lyric. After Lyric kidnapped Amy, Sonic made it his personal mission to defeat Lyric and save Amy. Upon meeting him, Sonic was acknowledged as a worthy foe by Lyric, whom Sonic taunted with how he was unstoppable with a team behind him. In response, Lyric trapped Sonic's team. Defeating Lyric and saving his team, Sonic ensured his end as Shadow engaged him.

Vector the Crocodile
 +

 +
Sonic initially did not have the best relationship with Vector the Crocodile, mainly due to their clashing egos. When Vector was called in to find Amy's Hammer after it got stolen, Sonic did not want to get outshined by Vector, prompting him to mooch in on Vector's investigation and attempt to outdo him. As such, Sonic would display some noticeable jealously towards Vector, and this is seen when he constantly criticized Vector's more radical ideas and outlandish theories. While Vector was able to take Sonic's behavior in stride thanks to his confidence in his own deduction skills, he did have his limit for how much of Sonic's defiance he could take. Due to this, they did share a bit of a one-sided disliking for each other, and even got in an argument. Despite their differences though, Vector has some degree of respect towards Sonic, and even asked for his help to solve a bigger case. After that, they establish a much friendlier relationship based on mutual respect, and Vector admitted they made a good team, which is high praise indeed from Vector.

— Sonic the Hedgehog, "Double Doomsday"

Sonic the Hedgehog is the main protagonist of the Sonic Boom series. He is an anthropomorphic hedgehog gifted with super running speed, who fights Dr. Eggman and other villains alongside his group of friends as the leader of Team Sonic to preserve peace and freedom.

Concept and creationEdit

During the development for Sonic's redesign, the developers went through a long process where they experimented with different accessories before they decided to stick with the "Scarf Sonic" design.[26][27] They settled with giving Sonic a neckerchief because it payed homage to the classic adventure theme and was an action adventure trope which fit with Sonic's game character role while emphasizing his "get-up and get-go" attitude and his love for adventure.[27][28] According to Bob Rafei, Sonic's scarf is partially based on Nathan Drake's scarf from Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception.[29]

The sports tape Sonic wears is inspired by fighters and American football players and is meant to give him a sense of practical heroism by showing that he is not vain, which is a trait more fitting for villains, when saving the world and to give him a more grounded approach.[27] He especially got sports tape around his feet to emphasize that his specialty was speed.[30] While his following design was nearly identical to his main series counterpart,[31] he eventually received blue arms and additional spikes to differentiate the two hedgehogs.[30]

AppearanceEdit

Sonic retains most of the appearance from his main series counterpart, but has a few physical differences. He is much slimmer, with longer arms and legs and more pronounced shoulders, giving him a lanky appearance. His hands are also noticeably smaller. Sonic's quills are also slightly shorter and messier, having some cowlick-like spikes that sticks out from his top and lower quills, and his arms are covered in blue fur, as opposed to being skin-colored. Sonic also has a visible neck, although it is usually covered by his scarf.

For attire, Sonic wears a pair of white gloves with cuffs and a pair of red sneakers with white cuffs, grey soles, and a rectangular gold buckle on top. He also has white sports tape wrapped around the palms of his gloves, the heels of his sneakers (to reinforce his shoes[32]) and his lower forearms and legs. Finally, he sports a brown neckerchief. He also occasionally wears his Communicator.

In addition to his usual clothes, Sonic has a number of additonal attires:

 • At formal occasions like the Awardy Awards, Sonic wears an open brown jacket in addition to his regular attire, with the exception of his neckerchief.[16]
 • For underwater missions, Sonic has his own high-tech attire which includes a blue wetsuit with a white stripe on each side and his face icon on the chest, red flippers resembling his shoes, and a transparent face mask attached to an oxygen tank on his back.[5]
 • For cold weathers, Sonic wears a thick grey and dark grey down jacket with a hoodie and red details, grey and dark grey mittens with red cords, and grey, white and red winter boots.[33]
 • One time, Sonic wore a waiter uniform, which included a black jacket and bowtie.[15]
 • When playing for the Pin Dashers, Sonic wears a dark blue and white-striped bowling shirt with matching bowling shoes. His shirt is likewise emblazoned with the team's logo.[34]
 • When performing with Dude-itude, Sonic wears a glittery jacket and microphone headset.
 • For high-altitude trips, Sonic has an advanced white spacesuit with blue boots, belt and arms, and a white helmet with an antenna on top, spikes to accommodate his head quills, and a transparent visor.[35]
 • For soccer matches, Sonic has a soccer uniform that includes a white and blue t-shirt with a blue chest logo shaped like Sonic's head, long white socks, and white shoes with blue laces and red soles.[1]
 • When he worked at Meh Burger, Sonic wore the standard Meh uniform, which is a lavender shirt with yellow leaf-markings and a name tag on it.[36]
 • During an attempt to lure a possessed Tails out, Sonic wore a sunflower costume. This costume consisted of a green bodysuit and a hood shaped like the head of a sunflower.[37]
 • On holidays, Sonic has been know to wear a long silver scarf and a red and white Santa Hat with a golden bell.

PersonalityEdit

Much like the wind, Sonic is free-spirited and always on the move.[38] He has a passion for adventure and is very much a thrill-seeker and adrenaline junkie, always looking for the next thrill, challenge, and triumph.[39] For Sonic, speed is a way of life; he runs fast, thinks fast, and even eats fast.[39] Being addicted to speed and action, Sonic gets bored and restless during extended times of peace.[40] In fact, Sonic cannot process the aspect of being restricted and being unable to move around very much makes him extremely stir crazy.[24][25] He acts on instinct and lives in the moment, though he is very impatient, impulsive and tends to run headlong into trouble without a plan.[39][41] While he can be shortsighted of others' feelings (making him blunt, honest, and rude to a fault), his heart is nevertheless always in the right place.[42]

Sonic's typical driving force is his immensely large, self-obsessed ego, yet his demeanor is normally laid-back, cool and carefree. Possessing a snarky tongue and sassy attitude, he is cocky, brash, quick-witted and often jokes around even in dire situations. He likewise has a playful, albeit never mean-spirited, arrogance about him and likes to play small pranks.[15] When the situation calls for it though, Sonic can be serious and will immediately rush to aid those in dire need. Always on the heroic side of things, Sonic is very benevolent with a strong sense of honor, justice and fair play,[43] being fully committed to helping out those in need at all times. Sonic also does not back down or give up, because he has an unwavering belief and faith in himself and his abilities.[39] Sonic is also noted to be very courageous.[42][2] However, he suffers from a severe case of aquaphobia which has only worsened with time.[5] He is also a bit of a slob at times, and chores do not sit well with him.[15]

While he often acts like he does not care, Sonic is rather protective of his image. To this end, he will get rid of any documentation and preferably dodge any performance that does not show him looking cool, even if it means his friends will look bad.[18][44] He is likewise uncomfortable about being open about his feelings and actively tries to dodge such conversations, presumably because he considers them uncool. He does not like it when other express themselves either. However, he is willing to lower his guard for the sake of his friends.[45] Sonic can also get rather over-competitive when contending with another, prompting him to let things get way out of hand out of overconfidence.[18] In case he loses a competition, Sonic becomes obsessed and borderline crazy about settling the score with his opponent, as he cannot accept the fact that he can actually lose.[34] Despite having his own fair share of quirks and willing to fool around just for the sake of it though, Sonic is very grounded and has a profound common sense that often makes him the "straight man" amongst his friends.

Though rather selfless when saving the Village, Sonic does come off as somewhat sensitive about his hero-status, becoming extremely jealous, defensive, and frustrated whenever someone else rivals his fame, steals the spotlight or when the civilians turn against him.[8][46][47] As such, when deprived of the chance to be the hero, Sonic gladly springs into action when he gets the opportunity to save the day in the end.[47] This mindset even led to him temporarily retiring due to how ungrateful the citizens were for his efforts. Even so, when the times really call for it, Sonic will forgo his opinions to help those in need.[8][46] Sonic is also a true chili dog enthusiast who can identify the ingredients of a chili dog with one bite.[2][48]

Sonic is noted to be strongly loyal towards his friends. Though he does not always show that he enjoys others' company (mainly because he finds himself too cool for that), he nonetheless cares deeply for his friends and will do anything for them.[41][42][49] Early on though, Sonic was somewhat of a cynical loner. While he was willing to work with his friends in times of need, he would show more interest in going out alone and would even take credit for what the team did collectively. In time though, Sonic grew to see how his team made him stronger and realized that his friends were his strength. Since then, Sonic has become a much more admirable team leader, being quick to ask for help and acknowledge their collective contributions. Regardless, Sonic's confidence and impatience tends to get in the way of his team spirit, as he sometimes feels that things will get done more quickly if he handles them alone.[14] This attitude also makes him kind of snarky and boastful in the faces of his friends at times.[50] Although Sonic usually defends his actions in such cases, he is nonetheless capable of admitting he was wrong in such situations. He also strongly believes in the friendship his team shares and will never do anything to compromise it; Tails in particular has noted that Sonic will never give up on his friends, "no matter how bad things [get]."[14]

Powers and abilitiesEdit

Sonic is a powerful fighter in his own right, and is arguably Team Sonic's strongest member; when pitted against Shadow the Hedgehog, who can defeat the other members of Team Sonic with ease, Sonic has proven himself capable of fighting Shadow to a near standstill.[51]

Sonic Boom3

Sonic exceeding the speed of sound.

Sonic's most notable skill is his super speed, allowing him to move and think faster than Mach 1.[52] Though his exact top speed is unknown, he is credited as the world's fastest hedgehog and even the fastest being in his universe;[41][53] he can effortlessly create a sonic boom,[7] run along the surface of water, walls and ceilings, outspeed lasers, start small fires from friction by running on the ground, and create strong enough gusts when taking off to knock over boulders. His speed is so great that he can run a trip that would take others thirty hours by car to make in a few seconds. Even the effects of the Slow Motion Machine, which slows everything down to a crawl, could only reduce his speed and mental processes to normal levels.[54]

As far as stamina goes, Sonic's is seemingly limitless, as he claims he never gets tired.[11] In line with his speed, Sonic has significant acrobatic skills and agility, sufficient enough to perform perfect synchronized mid-air movements. He also has extremely quick reflexes, being able to react instantly to dangers, perceive high speed movements in slow-motion, and react instantaneously to Shadow's teleportation-based surprise attacks.[51] He also has enhanced jumping skills, allowing him to jump very high into the air.

SONIC BOOM HOMING ATTACK

Sonic curling to attack Burnbot.

Sonic's main offensive maneuver is his "spin attack", where he curls tightly into a concussive ball. In this stance, Sonic can damage, destroy and mow down obstacles or foes when in motion. One of his signature moves is the Spin Dash, a nearly unavoidable move where Sonic spins on the spot before blasting off at full speed which can destroy most foes with a single strike.[17] Sonic has mastered this move to perfection, being able to use it with enough precision to weld metal fences together from friction.[46] While not a strategist like Tails, Sonic has a very quick wit and has often come up with his own plans to take down his enemies.[46][52] He is also a skilled combatant, and his fighting style relies on his footwork styles along with fast-strike tactics and quick maneuvers.

EquipmentEdit

Sonic wields a Communicator, a multifunctional and waterproof smartwatch created by Tails. This device allows Sonic wide-ranged radio communication between similar devices. It can as well generate its own Enerbeam (an energy tether that can latch onto objects or form a makeshift whip/rope), run mobile apps, tell the time, interface with Sonic's tech-based equipment for remote operation, and assume other powers. It also comes with its own tracking device.

Sonic also has a unique set of clothes referred to as a Luminous Suit which can provide him with light in otherwise light-deprived environments.[55]

The mech suit initially had a chip that corrupted Sonic's personality the more he used the mech suit, but after the chip was removed, he can now fully control it.[55][56]

WeaknessesEdit

Suffering from aquaphobia, Sonic is incapable of swimming and sinks in water.[5][7] He is also unable to utilize his speed properly in certain environment (such as on smooth ice), although he has the Blue Force One for such situations.[33][18]

RelationshipsEdit

Dr. EggmanEdit

Sonic and Eggman BFFs

Sonic and Eggman's strange relationship.

Dr. Eggman is Sonic's arch nemesis.[57][58] The two of them have hated each other since they first laid eyes on one another,[59] though their relationship is very complex. On one hand, Sonic has a strong dislike of the doctor and fights him on a weekly basis,[46] though he does not really take account of him and loves to tease him whenever the opportunity presents itself.[7] On the other hand, when not battling, Sonic and Eggman keep a rather passive relationship where they let each other be nearby without seeking conflict. At times, the two have even been known to hang out together,[57] though Sonic normally retains his general dislike and annoyance of the doctor. When Eggman claimed to be homeless, Sonic even allowed him to stay at Tails' home, though it was more on the grounds of proving himself the better person.[60]

While Sonic is quite happy to let Eggman stew in the trouble he has made for himself, he always ends up saving Eggman since it is the right thing to do.[57][60] Sonic also loves playing pranks on Eggman when he is an easy target.[6][61] Still, Sonic does not hold complete animosity for Eggman, as he has been known to feel guilty when he takes things too far with him.[61][62]

Ironically, Sonic knows a lot about Eggman's character and his preferences due to their frequent encounters, enough to let them get to the finals of Bro-Down Showdown.[63] Because of his constant victories over him, Sonic has a tendency to underestimate Eggman and forget how dangerous he can be.[50] When dealing with a common threat or problem, Sonic and Eggman are willing to put aside their differences and work together, even sometimes showing a sense of good-spirited comradery and well-oiled teamwork, though they both agree that they can never really be friends since they are arch enemies.[64]

For all their opposing ways, Sonic and Eggman are ultimately co-dependent and need each other in their lives. While he does not mind Eggman leaving his life,[65] Sonic finds things too boring for his taste without Eggman to fight, which makes him restless and paranoid. Similarly, without Sonic to challenge him, Eggman has no motivation to be a villain. For better or worse, their never-ending conflict is what drives them and keeps their lives balanced.[40]

Team SonicEdit

Miles "Tails" ProwerEdit

Sonic hugging Tails

Sonic affectionately hugging Tails.

Sonic's best friend and most trusted companion is Miles "Tails" Prower,[14] whom Sonic has described as "his main man and BFF".[49] He shares a brotherly relationship with Tails and they are equal partners in Sonic's adventures.[28][66] They are extremely close and both are willing to sacrifice their life for the other.[7] Sonic knows in particular that Tails always has his back when he is in trouble;[67] Sonic's faith in Tails is in fact so strong that even when he was dealing with an alternate version of Tails who worked for the enemy, he alone believed unconditionally that he was good guy.[49] The both of them will likewise always be there for each other (or seek each other out) whenever one them needs support.[14][4] One time, when he was wrongfully sued, Sonic even noted Tails was the one witness among his friends that he could rely on, underlining just how much trust he has in him above all others.[17] Also, while Tails is his sidekick, Sonic will still show outmost pride in Tails and his accomplishments, even when they outshine himself.[68] While Sonic appreciates Tails' support and unwavering loyalty however, he does not like it when Tails is patronizing him or gets too mushy.[15][69]

Sonic and Tails often hang out or go on adventures together by themselves, unlike most other of Sonic's friends, showcasing just how close the two are. There is rarely strife between them, and they have proven themselves a near-perfect duo; both provides strengths to the other's weaknesses (Sonic handles the muscle while Tails handles the smarts) and neither of them would get far without the other's aid.[13] In addition, they work well together in combat.[7][70] Conversely, they are just as willing to engage in friendly competitions with each other simply for fun.[18][70] However, their competitions may not always turn out well due to Sonic's overconfidence and Tails' zeal.[18] Also, while Sonic and Tails enjoy each other's company, they are still very different people, and being together for too long tend to make them bicker; Tails himself has pointed out that while they are best friends, they are not the best of roommates.[15] Regardless of whatever issues that may arise between them however, Sonic and Tails respect and care for each other so much that both of them are unable to hold a grudge at the other for long. They are also willing to share the blame when they know they are both at fault, and will always make up on a good note when they find themselves in a dispute.[15][18] Even so though, Sonic is not above having Tails take his place in otherwise embarrassing situations,[18] or playing a few harmless pranks on him.[15]

Though he might put Tails in danger with his half-baked plans, Sonic cares very much for his well-being, and will take care of him whenever he behaves oddly.[67] Sonic will also not hesitate to push himself beyond his limits to protect Tails; when Hypnobot tried to finish Tails, Sonic rushed to save him despite having an injured leg.[71] At the same time, Sonic has been known to be overprotective of Tails, like when he fired Tails as his sidekick after a brutal battle so that he would not get hurt. Once Tails proved himself though, Sonic regained his faith in him and rehired him on the spot.[7]

Amy RoseEdit

Sonic & Amy Selfie

Sonic taking a selfie with Amy.

Amy Rose is another one of Sonic's close friends and teammates, although their relationship is complex.[72] While Sonic at times acts confused about hints to Amy's crush on him,[73] it has been hinted that he is aware of it.[74] This ambiguousness does little to hurt their friendship and concentration, like when they searched for a Chaos Crystal together without Sonic struggling. Sonic is likewise completely comfortable about hanging out with Amy. However, like most of his teamates, he is very afraid of her temperament.[55][63] Also, Sonic usually tries to ignore Amy's suggestions to be more emotionally open about their feelings.[45]

Due to Amy's tendency to take charge, Sonic perceives Amy as extremely overbearing and bossy which brings her at odds with his own laid-back attitude.[74] He is also not very fond of Amy's ideas for group activities. However, while Sonic sometimes acts inconsiderate to Amy, he still appreciates her as a friend and teammate, and will try making up with her whenever he has upset her.[75] In fact, Sonic cannot stand watching Amy cry, and will willingly talk about their feelings (something which he is extremely reluctant about) if it will help Amy feel better.[45]

Sonic often claims to have no interest in Amy's love life and is quick to avoid or deny any indication that he is in a relationship with her.[45][76] This includes denying Amy was his girlfriend with suppressed anger when she was addressed as such by Dr. Eggman.[63] He further insists when he shows that he cares for her that he and Amy are merely comrades-in-arms.[76] Nonetheless, there are hints that indicate that Sonic may have some feelings for her deep down. For example, he brushed off his concerns in an embarrassed way when Knuckles teased that Amy was getting ready for a date, and said nothing when Dr. Eggman asked him about his "deal" with Amy.[57][77] Most noticeably though, the Bro-Down Showdown buzzers called out Sonic for being wrong when he denied Amy being his girlfriend.[63] Also, according to UT, Sonic cares about Amy's well-being.[73]

Knuckles the EchidnaEdit

Dum dums

Sonic and Knuckles pulling off a foolish stunt together.

Knuckles the Echidna is another of Sonic's close friends and teammates. However, the two of them are opposites in many ways, with Sonic being sensible, cool, and snarky while Knuckles is goofy, dim-witted and always disagreeing with him. Sonic in particular likes to tease Knuckles and does not think he is the sharpest tool in the shed, viewing him as a simpleton that always messes up without his supervision.[73][74]

Nowadays, Sonic and Knuckles are deep down the truest of friends (though they will never really admit it), referring to each others as "bros."[63] Even when Knuckles turns against him, Sonic refuses to hurt him when it comes to blows.[78] To Knuckles in particular, Sonic helps fill out the kind of loneliness he gets about being the last of his kind by being the family he longs for.[78]

Sonic and Knuckles' friendship exhibits a unique dynamic compared to their other relationships: whereas Sonic is more formal around his other friends, he and Knuckles are much more relaxed and outgoing when together, often spending their time hanging out by roughhousing and goofing off with various extreme (and often foolish) activities.[38][57][63] Akin to Tails, Sonic can also be very selfless for Knuckles' sake; even though it meant facing Amy's wrath, Sonic willingly forfeited his chances to avoid it in order to save Knuckles from Obliterator Bot.[63]

Both Sonic and Knuckles have a friendly rivalry going on[66] and they tend to compete with each other in all kinds of activities. Though Sonic normally remains cool about their rivalry since he usually wins, he rejects the idea of losing to Knuckles on purpose.[19]

Sticks the BadgerEdit

Sonicks

Sonic helping Sticks practice her manners.

Sticks the Badger is a member of Sonic's crew and one of his closest friends. The two are alike in the sense that they "go running into danger without a plan, a direction, or a clue," though it usually falls on Sonic to be the more sensible of them. Like his other friends, Sonic is normally unnerved by Sticks' paranoia and stays skeptical about her theories and judgement in general.[74][79] Additionally, he feels very uncomfortable when he actually finds himself agreeing with her crackpot theories.[33] He also once hesitated to tell her that Lyric had kidnapped Amy, showing a degree of fear for her outbursts. Nonetheless, Sonic accepts Sticks' quirks and will apologize for doubting her when he is proven wrong. Likewise, Sonic thinks she is a very nice person deep down.[74]

Very loyal to Sticks, Sonic likes her penchant for tackling foes head-on and considers her a valued teammate. In spite of his personal dislikes, he will also agree to help Sticks with her tasks at hand, like being her escort to a gala and going pet shopping with her.[16][80] Once though, he considered himself a better survival expert than Sticks until she put him in his place.[81]

VillagersEdit

Lightning Bolt SocietyEdit

Despite being enemies, Sonic does not think highly about the Lightning Bolt Society. Like most others, he thinks they are a bunch of losers and hardly considers them a threat.[46][81] Among this group, Sonic's most persistent foe is Dave the Intern who often tries to destroy him (when not serving him at Meh Burger), though Sonic hardly spares him a thought.[57][65] Nevertheless, though Sonic often ignores their usually minor schemes, he will not hesitate to stop the Lightning Bolt Society whenever they stir up too much trouble.[46][81]

Shadow the HedgehogEdit

Screenshot 2016-09-11 at 11.04.42 PM

Sonic fighting Shadow.

Shadow the Hedgehog is Sonic's arch-rival, who can match him in both speed, abilities and dashing looks.[82] Outside physical similarities though, Shadow is the antithesis to all that Sonic is.

In fact, Sonic retains a neutral attitude when talking about Shadow, and has no real beef with the black hedgehog that provokes him to fight him.[3] However, Sonic is easily angered by the way Shadow criticizes him for being weak, and they usually end up arguing when they strike a conversation. Regardless, Sonic has admitted that if Shadow was not such a "hard case", he would be a great addition to Team Sonic. He has also admitted that Shadow is one tough customer,[3] displaying great respect for Shadow's skills.

Lyric the Last AncientEdit

The start of a beautiful fiendship

Sonic, after trapping Lyric.

Vector the CrocodileEdit

Sonic and Vector argue

Sonic and Vector arguing.

After that, they establish a much friendlier relationship based on mutual respect, and Vector admitted they made a good team, which is high praise indeed from Vector.[12]
