Sonic the Hedgehog Chapter 3 is a story in the Sonic the Hedgehog manga published by Shogakukan. It was released in the December 1992 issue of the Bessatsu CoroCoro Comic Special magazine.

Synopsis[]
In autumn, Nicky, Amy, and Tania have gone to a mushroom valley with some friends to collect mushrooms. Later, Amy cooks various mushroom-related meals with the collected mushrooms, which Nicky enjoys. However, a fox with sunglasses mocks them from a tree, calling mushrooms "wussy food", making Nicky say that Amy's food is the best. This convinces the fox to try a large mushroom, which he eats in one single bite, enjoying it. The fox soon after introduces himself as "Tails", saying that he is called that because of his two tails. He says that he is looking for Sonic the Hedgehog, whom he always tries to pursue when possible. Amy commentates that Sonic is "like a dream come true" and another hedgehog says that he has turned up in Hedgehog Town two months ago. Meanwhile, Nicky, unaware of who Sonic is, questions who he is. Soon after, however, Anton Veruca appears on the scene, eating large amounts of Amy's food. This makes her tell him that they will run out of mushrooms if he keeps eating like that, but Anton takes her to his car and leaves the scene. Wanting to help Nicky to thank him for the food, Tails uses his car so that he and Nicky can chase Anton.
Eventually, Tails and Nicky chase Veruca and Amy around a gigantic mushroom, which, much to everyone's surprise, reveals itself to actually be a gigantic robot. The robot then flies into the air, with two other mushroom robots, and the robots begin tossing mushroom spores which transform Anton, Tails, Amy, Tania, and some civilians into living mushrooms. Nicky is shortly after caught into the spores too, lamenting that he is the most pathetic person ever. However, his desperation transforms him into Sonic, who dodges the spore clouds and uses the transformed Anton to bounce his way up to one of the mushrooms. There, he finds Dr. Eggman, who reveals that he is behind the chaos and that he is going to turn Sonic into a mushroom to analyze him. After his reveal, one of his assistant robots uses a feather to tickle an elephant's trunk, causing it to sneeze and release more spores to turn Sonic into a mushroom. When he is surrounded, however, Sonic uses a Rolling Dry Hurricane to make the spores decay, much to Eggman's shock. The doctor's assistant robot then tells him that the friction in the air caused by Sonic is producing heat, causing the mushroom robots to catch fire as Sonic escapes. The hedgehog then grabs the mechs and skewers them through a palm tree like a kebab.
Destroying the mushroom robots causes Tails, Amy, Tania, and the others to return to normal as Sonic bids them farewell and runs away. Everyone runs after him, starstruck, especially Tails and Amy, and follow his trail to a bush, but they end up finding Nicky in the bush, instead. Tails, wanting to find Sonic, uses his car and blasts away, accidentally knocking Nicky and Amy on some mushrooms. The hedgehogs find them to be cozy and rest on them as it is revealed that some of the mushrooms they were lying on were tiny UFOs, disguised as mushrooms. The aliens piloting the UFOs decide to leave Earth and go back home, calling the planet a hectic place. it is then shown that Eggman, having survived, is over the mushroom mechs' scrap helpless, screaming for help, and Anton is still a mushroom and complains, asking why he did not turn back to normal like everyone else.

Trivia[]
- Tails' car in this story is surprisingly resemblant to the Lotus Seven car that appears alongside him in an Easter egg in Sonic the Hedgehog CD.
