Sonic the Hedgehog Chapter 1 (大きな夢がソニックを加速する！！ Ōkina yume ga sonikku o kasoku suru!!?, lit. "Big Dreams Make Sonic Propel Forward!!") is a story in the Sonic the Hedgehog manga published by Shogakukan. It was released in the August 1992 issue of the Bessatsu CoroCoro Comic Special magazine.

Synopsis[]
In Hedgehog Town, Dr. Eggman, disguised as "Dogman", is patrolling the traffic. Near him is a pizzeria, where Tania mimicks him whistling. This makes Amy tell her that she cannot mock the policeman, though Tania says that she finds it funny. Amy later wakes Nicky up, who was taking a nap on the table. The three, alongside Little John, get an extra-large pizza, which they enjoy before Anton Veruca shows up, ruining the pizza. Veruca proceeds to bully Nicky as usual, who, out of cowardice, goes to order another pizza. Meanwhile, Anton flirts with Amy and then attacks Nicky with his tail. His attack causes Nicky to be kicked out of the pizzeria and land in front of a stand with hair conditioner bottles. He laments that, in comparison to his own dad, he is a "weakling", not noticing that he has accidentally dropped the bottles, which land on him.
Soon after, Veruca is enjoying a pizza with a saddened Amy and his friends. As he is about to eat his meal however, his pizza is snatched, causing him to violently bite his fingers by accident instead. He furiously asks who the one who snatched his pizza was, revealing that Sonic was the one who did. Enraged, he attempts to headbutt Sonic, but with little success. Veruca then throws several raw pizzas at the hedgehog in an attempt to stop him, only for Sonic to grab them all and throw them back at him instead, covering Anton in dough. Sonic proceeds to spread out the dough with Veruca inside, pours sauce over it, and then throws it into the oven. Soon after, he throws Veruca and the dough in the nearby lake and bids Amy farewells.
After this, Nicky wakes up, confused over what has happened. When he enters the pizzeria, Amy tells him about how Sonic managed to defeat Anton, which confuses him. Meanwhile, Dogman is overhearing this conversation, and reveals himself to the public to be Eggman. Having finally found the whereabouts of Sonic after looking for him for so many years, an excited Eggman goes to find Anton, who is cursing the hedgehog near the lake. He meets Eggman, disguised as Dogman once again, who says that he also intends to catch Sonic in order to prevent him from using his speed to commit pranks. Willing to help Dogman out, Veruca says that he will be of his help. Dogman then explains him that he has to harass Nicky again, as he has noted that there is a connection between Nicky and Sonic.
Later, at noon, Amy and Nicky are on a boat in the lake, enjoying the nice weather. Amy is thinking about Sonic, causing an annoying Nicky to be confused, since he has no about who Sonic is. Then however, Anton comes into scene, throwing Nicky into the lake while flirting with Amy. Nicky laments the fact that he cannot swim and how he is unable to fight Anton. Fortunately however, Sonic comes into scene, sending Veruca flying away. Meanwhile, in his submarine, Eggman oversees the events, and rises his submarine to the surface of the water, making it visible to Amy and Sonic. Sonic infiltrates the submarine, meeting Eggman in the process, who says he has prepared his Mr. Cook-Man Number 1 robot to catch the hedgehog. Cook-Man throws various eggs at Sonic as projectiles, causing him to struggle to move. Cook-Man then grabs Sonic and puts him in its mouth, and then releases an egg with Sonic inside.
Now with Sonic caught, Eggman begins his "Cooking Hell" part, where he tells the public how to properly cook a Sonic boiled egg. After cooking the egg, he tells Sonic to knock on his shell three times if he is ready, causing Sonic to break out of the egg using a Rolling Attack. He then performs a "Rolling Hurricane Attack", which he uses to storm the place and create a water sprout, as an UFO watches in the background surprised. Next, the weather forecast warns about an upcoming "egg storm" for the entire area of Hedgehog Town. After this storm, Nicky, with an umbrella, meets Amy once again at the coast of the town. She tells her boyfriend about how she was saved by Sonic once again, confusing him. Nicky, nevertheless, commentates that he must be a very strong person, as an annoyed Eggman watches from nearby.
