Synopsis[]
Sonic is strapped to a table inside an unknown room in the Death Egg. Mecha Sonic is typing on a computer interface as Sonic complains about people betraying his trust. He asks why Mecha has suddenly changed for the worse. During this, Mecha observes Tails and Sigma's assistants repairing the Tornado, and he takes particular notice to the Miles Electric. Sonic asks why the metal thing on his head is for, rhetorically asking if he is going to "suck out my brains". Mecha glares at him, making Sonic think he really is going to suck his brains out. A small Scrapnik, Ben, observes all this from the doorway and runs off into the Death Egg.
A flashback then shows Mecha Sonic coming back online for the first time on Scrapnik Island. E-117 Sigma introduces himself to Mecha and explains he rebuilt him after discovering him washed ashore. Sigma explains to Mecha he is no longer a tool for conquest and destruction, and on this island he will discover the "new you". Scenes of Mecha helping Sigma, finding the sunflower, and meeting other Scrapniks are shown as Sigma says Mecha Sonic is safe, free, and home on the island. This flashback ends with Sigma booting up inside the Death Egg. He slowly gets up and asks if Sonic and Mecha are alright. He then sees a badly damaged Mecha Knuckles frying on the ground. Sigma picks him up and is mortified by Mecha Sonic's actions.
Meanwhile, Ben, who saw Sonic and Mecha, reaches to Tails and shows what he saw via a connection to the Miles Electric. The assistants look concerned and without saying anything, Tails goes to a pile of scrap parts and makes a gun and a eye tracker/communication device. The assistants also get weapons and they go into the Death Egg to save Sonic. As they walk inside a corridor in the Death Egg, the Miles Electric plays a beeping sound that is getting louder every beep. Tails observes the radar and tell the others, quietly, there is movement ahead. They move forward vigilantly with a clanking sound coming their direction. The group turns the corner and points their weapons at the bogey, who is revealed to be Sigma holding Mecha Knuckles. Tails is relieved to see him and puts down his weapon.
Tails tells Sigma they are looking for Mecha Sonic, who is holding Sonic captive. Sigma says his fears have been realized and his old protocols and subroutines have been reawakened. He explains Mecha's systems are robust and his knowledge of them is limited. When he rebuilt Mecha, he did his best to rewrite Dr. Eggman's original code, but his efforts now seem insufficient. Sigma blames himself for their situation. Another beep plays on the Miles Electric and a voice tells Sigma slowly "my mind has never been clearer". The radar shows something rapidly approaching them, and Mecha Sonic reveals to be right behind them. Everyone with a gun shoots at Mecha, who spin dashes away. The firing stops, and Mecha Sonic speaks again via the Miles Electric. He says they don't know what it is like to be discarded or forgotten. Sigma lets out a yell and they only see Mecha Knuckles' hat where he once stood. As they investigate, Mecha creeps behind them as he takes away Rancheros into the darkness. Tails says Mecha is too fast and orders a retreat.
As Tails flies forward, he admits he underestimated Mecha's speed and he is just about as fast as Sonic still. While he said that, Florentine was nowhere to be seen behind, leaving Benedict with fear. Tails then tells the group they should hunker down in a small room to limit his movement, but when he looks back all of his assistants are gone. Mecha then reveals himself to Tails. Mecha tells Tails he was Dr. Eggman's greatest creation and was supposed to conquer the world with him. When he was rebuilt, he waited for Eggman and was certain he would come find him. He realized Eggman abandoned him and left him on the island. Mecha claims this to be a "grave error", which he will correct. Tails asks how that has to deal with him and what he did with Sonic. Mecha says his plans for Sonic do not concern Tails and demands the tablet in exchange for Tails' life. Tails grabs his gun and tells Mecha to come and get it.
Tails fires at Mecha, who dodges the shots and closes the distance on him. Just before Tails can fire a locked-on shot, Mecha swipes away his gun. Tails then gets down and attacks Mecha with a Spin Dash. Mecha grabs Tails as he spins and slams him to the ground. He then grabs the Miles Electric. Mecha then grabs Tails, tells him he'll now know what it feels like to be thrown away, and shoves him down a trash chute, where Tails falls into the darkness. Mecha Sonic returns to the room where Sonic is strapped down, who gives him a sarcastic "welcome back". Sonic notices Mecha with the Miles Electric, and demands to know what he did to Tails and where he is. As Mecha connects the tablet to the computer, he tells Sonic Tails is where he belongs and he will join him soon. The computer then shows an icon of Sonic and Mecha, indicating a switching of their minds.
