Sonic the Hedgehog: Halloween Special[1] is a one-shot comic book special published by IDW Publishing in celebration of Halloween in 2023.

Synopsis[]
The Chaotix are getting ready to take Charmy Trick-or-Treating, with Espio dressed as a mummy, Vector as Frankenstein's Monster, and Charmy as a vampire. Even Vector is looking forward to getting candy. However before they leave, a kid visits them to get their help as someone stole her candy. They bring her inside with some cocoa and she recalls what happened while wiping tears away. She and her friends met a kid named Herschel who convinced them to take a "shortcut" via a forest path so they could get the full-sized bars. The kid left them in the forest and a monster came out of nowhere, taking their candy. Charmy is upset about this and wants to take the case, forgetting about Trick-or-Treating himself. Vector agrees, saying Charmy's the boss tonight. They get a map for the girl to point out what forest they went to, starting their investigation.
Meanwhile, Sonic and Tails are flying to Seaside City in the Tornado with Tails in a cowboy costume. Tails sees the Chaotix below and decide to land near them, hoping they can Trick-or-Treat with them. They land and Charmy tells them about the case. Sonic suggests ditching Trick-or-Treating to help the Chaotix, and Tails agrees. Sonic asks if they can join and Vector says the more the merrier. They soon reach the spot where the monster struck and they see another group of kids run away from the monster. Vector and Espio start to say what to do next, but Tails says he pinpointed where the monster is with his Miles Electric by pinpointing the direction of the screams. As they walk over, Sonic asks Vector what clues they should be looking for. He decides to save time by running ahead of the group. He finds a clue and brings the gang to see it: a candy bag in a tree. Charmy and Espio then find a trail of candy nearby and they follow it. Soon, Charmy hears some people and they quietly look ahead. They see Herschel tricking another group of kids, and Charmy calls him out, causing him to run away. Sonic and Espio chase him, while the others console the kids he left behind.
Sonic and Charmy corner Herschel, only for him to call the monster to defend him. Charmy calls out for help and Vector hears it. He runs over to help as the monster grabs Sonic. Vector calls out a command to Charmy and he distracts the monster, letting the croc land a hit on it. He lets out a Vector Breath on the monster and they discover it was three kids in a costume. Herschel comes back to land a cheap shot on Vector. The kids try to get away, but the Chaotix surround them, with Vector grabbing one kid. Hershel runs off, but Tails stops him. The kid isn't intimidated and calls Tails just a kid. Tails says he is a cowboy tonight and wraps him up in his lasso. He brings Herschel back to the group and Charmy manages to capture the last kid. Rowdy tries to negotiate with them by splitting the candy, but Espio says they can't barter something that's stolen. Noah says they stole it fair and square, but Vector says they are returning the candy they stole. Charmy manages to find their stash and starts bagging it up.
Rowdy cries and says they spent a year making those arms and now their plan is ruined. Sonic says they aren't keeping the candy for themselves because it belongs to everyone. He compares their actions to what Eggman does, and tells them helping people feels good. The group finds a large candy and Herschel complains their stash would be huge if they got two of them. Tails manages to get Herschel to see how sad it would feel from the perspective of the person he stole it from. Seeing that what they are doing was wrong, the kids apologize. Tails frees Herschel and Brady and the group returns to the city to hand out the candy. Brady admits it feels good to help people and Rowdy agrees to share his robot arms specs with Tails. Charmy starts feeling sad that he didn't partake in Trick-or-Treat, but Tails cheers him up revealing the candy left that's left over will be enough for all of them.
