Sonic the Hedgehog's Soul Surge is Sonic the Hedgehog's Soul Surge technique in Sonic and the Black Knight. When using this technique, Sonic can either dash up to his enemies and attack them with Caliburn, accelerate to top speed, or launch a powerful kick.

Description[]

In order to perform Sonic's Soul Surge, Sonic's Soul Gauge must contain some energy. To activate it in gameplay, the player must press B. To cancel the move while being used, the player must press B again. Using the Soul Surge deceases the energy in the Soul Gauge, and if it runs out of energy, the move will end.

Sonic's Soul Surge can be executed in three ways, depending on the player's actions during the attack; either to attack enemies, launching a kick to bump enemies or to advance quicker through the stages (Adventure Mode only).

Attack[]

If Sonic's Soul Surge is performed as a means of offense, Sonic will briefly charge up the attack, with small rings of energy emitting from his feet. Sonic will then dash up to his opponent to the full extent of his speed, appearing as a nearly instantaneous movement, and delivers a powerful slash with Caliburn to his opponent.

To perform this variant of Sonic's Soul Surge in gameplay, the player must activate this Soul Surge within the attack range of enemies. When doing so, the player will automatically target any enemy in front of Sonic with a red reticle. To strike the targeted enemy, the player has to swing the Wii Remote. This attack is strong enough to kill any lesser enemies, counter attacks or deal massive damage to tougher enemies. Once the enemy has been struck, the player targets the next nearby foe and the cycle continues. If the player attacks when the reticle is glowing bright white and Caliburn's blade is glowing, the player can perform a Perfect Hit for more damage and extra points. This move can be used both when Sonic is in midair or when standing on the ground.

Kick[]

If Sonic's Soul Surge is performed as a means of launching a kick at opponents, Sonic will briefly charge up the attack, with small rings of energy emitting from his feet. Sonic will then jump towards his chosen opponent and strike the opponent with a fast kick with his left foot from midair.

To perform this variant of Sonic's Soul Surge in gameplay, the player must activate this Soul Surge within the attack range of enemies. When doing so, the player will automatically target any interactive object in front of Sonic with a red reticle. To strike the target, the player then have to swing the Nunchuck remote. This attack momentarily stuns enemies and can trigger reactions in certain objects, but it deals very little damage to enemies.

Speed Boost[]

When Sonic's Soul Surge is used to give Sonic an increase in speed, Sonic will briefly charge up the move, with small rings of energy emitting from his feet. He will then accelerate to beyond his top speed in a split-second with a high-speed dash, akin to Speed Break from Sonic and the Secret Rings.

To perform this variant of Sonic's Soul Surge in gameplay, the player must activate this Soul Surge when there are no enemies in range. For then to initiate the speed boost, the player has to swing the Wii Remote, and Sonic will take off at extreme speeds. This allows the player to get through the stages quicker and pass through most obstacles before they can react to Sonic's presence. While moving at these speeds, however, Sonic becomes slightly more difficult to control. Also, if Sonic encounters an enemy while using his Soul Surge as a speed boost, he will automatically switch to the attack variant of it.

Trivia[]

  • Sonic's Soul Surge is the only Soul Surge that appears in the storyline in Sonic and the Black Knight that cannot be enhanced or granted extra effects, since Sonic cannot wield any other weapons than Caliburn.
    • However it is possible to gain a semi-infinite use of this move by equipping a Poison Ring and using a high level Knight Style to take advantage of that styles set of skills to continuously fill the Soul Gauge.
  • When done in the air, Sonic's Soul Surge bears resemblance to the trademark Homing Attack.
