Sonic the Hedgehog - "Time Racer"[]

Synopsis[]

Sonic, having received a message that Tails was trapped on the other side of the planet, arrives in a Zone with fire everywhere and a stone castle rising up in the middle. Crashing through the wall with a Spin Attack, he finds Tails chained up underwater in a big bowl. However, no sooner has he pulled Tails out than Robotnik appears on a monitor: this was all a trap to lure Sonic halfway around the planet, so that Robotnik could use the death ray on his new space satellite to destroy the Emerald Hill Zone. Sonic has only 5 seconds to make it back!

Sonic is gone before Tails can even turn around, pushing himself harder than ever before. He breaks the sound barrier several times, leaving only a blur in his wake. With half a second left he passes through the Spring Hill Zone, the Marble Zone, then reaches the Emerald Hill Zone just as the beam hits the grass. Sonic finally stops when he reaches the beach, where he uses his hyper-speed to turn the sand into a giant mirror. With the help of the Emerald Hill Folk, he holds the mirror in the path of the beam, which is reflected back into space destroys Robotnik's satellite!

Tails arrives soon after, having seen a big flash in the sky. He laments having missed out on the mega-action again, but Sonic explains this: Tails isn't "half as cool, brave or handsome" as Sonic is. And if Tails is modest, it's only because he has so much to be modest about.

Trivia[]

  • Although Sonic is racing towards the Emerald Hill Zone in this issue, he is listed as passing through the Spring Yard Zone and Marble Zone before arrival, suggesting that his destination is the Green Hill Zone. Presumably an early draft of the script mentioned the Green Hill Zone, but this was changed to the Emerald Hill Zone during editing in order to match the backstory established in previous issues (such as Sonic the Comic #9). Later issues, including Sonic the Comic #25, "Prologue: Once Upon a Planet...", will reveal that the Emerald and Green Hill Zones are co-located on South Island.

Kid Chameleon - "Kid Chameleon, Part 5"[]

  • Script: Michael Cook
  • Art: Brian Williamson/Steve White
  • Lettering: Tom Frame

Casey, now the Berzerker, smashes apart the huge metal tank while protecting his friend Suzi. Suzi then directs him to a massive sign reading "EXIT" (since, as Berzerker, he can't read), but it points to the top of a skyscraper. In order to climb it, he speaks the word "Chameleon" and transforms into Iron Knight!

Halfway up the building, with Suzi clinging to his back, Iron Knight is attacked by miniature bi-planes, which he easily destroys with his sword. At the top, they see a final telepad marked with "Exit", but a gigantic cyborg gorilla is in the way. Iron Knight distracts it, allowing Suzi to escape, but it shatters his sword. Needing his Berzerker strength back, he repeats the word "Chameleon", only to find that he is transformed back into Casey, with no super-powers at all!

Streets of Rage - "Streets of Rage, Part 5"[]

  • Script: Mark Millar
  • Art: Peter Richardson
  • Lettering: Tom Frame

Axel Stone, fresh from hospital and still covered in bandages, attacks Hawk's processing plant with guns blazing and informs the guards inside that they are under arrest. This gives Blaze Fielding and Max Hatchet a chance to escape - Blaze joins Axel in getting clear of the plant, while Max goes after Blaze's tracking device then sets an ambush for Hawk himself. After Max incapacitates Hawk's bodyguards, the two start fighting, man-to-man.

Outside the plant, Axel and Blaze find that Murphy has arrived with backup. Now that the two are clear, he orders the circling helicopter to drop an incendiary on the plant. Blaze barely has a chance to scream "Max is still in there!" before the entire plant goes sky-high!

Decap Attack - "Starring Chuck D. Head! Part 2"[]

Chuck D. Head (and his head, Head) are pretty mad with the Prof (who gets no support from his assistant Igor) for chopping up his brain and sticking it in two different craniums. Things get even weirder when another castle rises up out of the ground next to the Prof's. It belongs to the most evil creature in existence: Max D. Cap (he never returned the Prof's lawn mower). Max introduces himself as the master of all horrors of the Underworld, denies having the Prof's lawn mower, demands that Prof Frank N. Stein creates for Max an unstoppable army of the undead, and rattles the battlements with a deep maniacal laugh. His personal coach, a bespectacled man named Rupert, says that lawn-mower remark may have spoiled the effect.

Max's minions attack the Prof's castle, capturing the Prof. Chuck, however, does not intend to go quietly: he knocks out one minion by hurling Head at it, then headbutts another one, before a third throws him over the battlements and he plummets to his death (again) on the rocks below. Then someone throws Head down after him.
