Sonic and the Blade of Courage Chapter 5 is titled "The Secret of the Athel Ruins". It is the fifth chapter in the Sonic and the Blade of Courage manga serialized in CoroCoro Comic.

Summary[]
Sonic finds a tree pattern with his face.
Still in the Jungle, Sonic the Hedgehog finds a tree pattern that looks similar to his face and remarks about it. Yuuta and Tails (via the hologram on Yuuta's watch) stare blankly at Sonic before Yuuta then exclaims in shock, "So what?!", and Tails asks if Sonic's forgotten their goal. Confused, Sonic says that he just thought it was neat.
Shortly, after the trio arrive at the Athel Ruins. Excited, Sonic announces their arrival, Tails looks at it wearily, and Yuuta sweats. Tails reminds Yuuta and Sonic that this is the ruins of an ancient civilization described in texts, and that it's the only clue to solving crystallization. Tails leaves off by saying that he's counting on the duo, and then closes the hologram. Yuuta remembers his class crystallized.
Suddenly, Sonic is at the top of the ceiling of the ruins' entrance, Yuuta wonders how Sonic got up at the top without him seeing. The wind roars, and Sonic remarks that his quills are giving him "jittery tingles", Yuuta looks confused. Sonic leaps down from the ceiling and jokes that he maybe should prepare his will, Yuuta looks at Sonic stunned and asks him if he means that the ruins are deathly dangerous. The two enter the ruins gate and Yuuta trembles scared, saying that they should then be "extra careful". Sonic tells Yuuta to not worry and that he has it handled, gleaming, he points to himself and tells Yuuta to "trust him". Awkwardly, Yuuta stares blankly at Sonic.
Sonic accidentally activates a trap.
Suddenly, the floor before them opens and Yuuta and Sonic are sent flying down, Sonic looks surprised and Yuuta screams with feared. Just a moment before Yuuta hits a floor of spikes, Sonic pushes his legs to the walls and grabs Yuuta, calling it a close call to which Yuuta awkwardly agrees. Sonic puts Yuuta down to a concrete floor next to them, and Yuuta asks if Sonic now understands why they need to be careful. Humorously, Sonic ignores the comment and continues going through the ruins and mentions that the two can head through the passage he's facing.
Sonic steps through a rope which breaks and sets off a trap, the ground rumbles and a boulder comes hurdling down. Yuuta looks at Sonic shocked by him going faster and tells Sonic to stop going ahead of him, Sonic smirks and tells him that he can't let him take the lead.
The duo encounter dangerous spiders, and after escaping the two hit an impasse, Sonic tells Yuuta to take East to which Yuuta exclaims that they already went there.
Later they find a puzzle, Sonic tells Yuuta that it's something that he should do to which Yuuta wonders if he needs to match the pictures. Suddenly, a Stone Statue attempts to punch the two but destroys the ground as Yuuta, scared, leaps out of the way, Sonic jumps and remarks that it feels like a real adventure, the ground now broken Yuuta and Sonic start to fall down.
Yuuta notices the watering can while falling.
While falling, Yuuta stares above with curiosity at the Stone Statue's hand holding a watering can but is quickly interrupted as he's hit by the crumbling ground. When Sonic and Yuuta land, Sonic comments that they seem to be in a spacious room. Yuuta catches his breath. Yuuta notices the light appearing from the hole in the roof and says that the ruins must be getting brittle.
Yuuta then notices a "flower garden" but, his attention is quickly diverted by Sonic pointing out a giant mural in front of them. Yuuta looks in awe, mentioning that it's the mural Tails found in ancient documents. Yuuta starts to analyze that the top of the mural depicts tentacles and crystallized people like earlier, and the bottom of the mural depicts crystallized people reverted to the mural. Yuuta looks at the middle of the mural and questions what it's meant to be depicting, half of it showing the Blade of Courage but the other half showing an Emerald he is unfamiliar with. Sonic looks in shock and exclaims that it's a Chaos Emerald. Yuuta looks confused, Sonic explains that it's a gem that holds "unimaginable" power, that it can blow up the moon, warp a colony hurtling toward the Earth, and that it brings both destruction and salvation, calling it the "coolest and craziest thing ever". Yuuta wonders why there would be a mural of it, the two pause, then both gasp with realization that both the Chaos Emerald and Blade of Courage may be the key to undoing crystallization. The two glee and Yuuta says that he's already feeling more hopeful.
Sonic decides to continue the search but, is quickly interrupted from the Stone Statue from earlier arriving. Sonic grabs Yuuta and jumps out of the way before the Statue can land a punch, the Statue yells at the two to leave, Sonic skips back and tells the Statue that he doesn't have the time for it, Sonic says that it'll knock it out for a bit, then kicks the Statue back but, the kicks only slightly pushes it's torso front. The Statue mocks Sonic, Sonic growls annoyed and confused. The Statue throws punches at it which Sonic dodges and teases the Statue about not being able to hit him. Enraged, the Statue rapidly throws more punches at Sonic to which Sonic looks confused at how it's so strong for just a Statue.
The Stone Statue protected the flower bed.
A pebble from above hits Yuuta, he looks confused for a moment, the ground suddenly then rumbles to which he realizes an earthquake is occurring. The ceiling cracks and Yuuta warns the two about it. To Sonic's surprise, the Statue turns away from it, and the Statue tanks the crumbling ceiling. Sonic looks confused at what the Statue is doing to which Yuuta looks with astonishment with realization that the Statue was actually protecting the flower bed. Yuuta remembers the watering can and asks if it was for watering the flowers. Yuuta points out the different flowers, and calls them beautiful flowers. The Stone Statue blushes and astonished with the realization that they're called flowers. The Statue explains that when it awoke, it saw one flower, and just looking at it "filled it up", and that since the flower was all alone it'd fill it up with a family, so it gathered seeds and planted it to grow more flowers.
Sonic sheepishly apologizes for picking a fight with the Statue suddenly, Yuuta diffidently thinks that at least Sonic realizes what he's done. Sonic inquires the Statue how it can even move, and the Statue explains that something that might have came down through the hole in the ceiling did, that something being a Chaos Emerald, the Statue opens it's chest revealing a Chaos Emerald. Sonic and Yuuta pause for a moment. Sonic yells in shock realizing that it's a Chaos Emerald, Yuuta looks surprised. Sonic squishes his muzzle and sweats, realizing that's why the Statue was so powerful, Sonic wonders what to do since they can't steal the Emerald from the Statue.
Sonic aims to blast the ceiling despite how underground he is.
Pebbles start falling and the ruins tremble, Yuuta realizes that the current earthquake is bigger than the one from before. The whole ceiling starts to fall, Sonic and Yuuta look back at the flower bed, and Sonic tells Yuuta to slow it down, and the Statue to save the flowers, the Statue asks Sonic what he's doing. Yuuta and Sonic looks back at the Statue and rhetorically asks it isn't it's family in a predicament, Yuuta starts to slash down the ceiling and grow tired, Sonic spin-dashes and tells Yuuta to keep going, Yuuta asks Sonic what he's planning, Sonic replies that he's planning to smash through the ceiling to the surface. Yuuta worriedly replies that they're deep underground, Sonic simply replies that it doesn't matter to him, and he starts to spin attack over the place, Sonic crushes the ceiling to the top. Yuuta keeps slashing and exclaims there's too much of it to reach the surface, the Statue repeatedly says to save the flowers. The three yell as they push the ceiling on with their attacks, the Stone Statue's arm completely breaks. Sweating, and tired, Yuuta tells the Statue that it isn't able to handle pushing the ceiling back more... The Statue, with tears in it's eyes, exclaims that it's fine, that he never has how happy it makes him to protect his family, that thanks to Yuuta and Sonic, it now understands that fact. With one final push to the ceiling to protect the flowers, the ceiling and the Statue collide together, destroying the Statue completely, and causing the Chaos Emerald to fall out of it. Sonic yells that he won't let even a grain of sand hit the flowers, Sonic rapidly pushes himself to spin the ceiling through the ruins up to the surface. Sonic lands back down, Yuuta breaks into tears, thinking about the loss of the Statue. Sonic comforts him.

Yuuta agrees, Sonic hands Yuuta the Chaos Emerald and affirms to him that the Statue entrusted the Emerald to the two, and that he should hold onto it tight. As the hole from the broken ceiling shines sunshine onto the flowers, Yuuta's tears quell.
Yuuta wonders how the Blade of Courage and Chaos Emerald work in tandem with one another. A voice tells Yuuta to bring the Emerald closer to the Blade. When Yuuta presses the two together, suddenly, Chaos Control activates, horrifying Yuuta. A person uses their hand to smack the Emerald out of Yuuta's hand, and says that he didn't expect them to have the Emerald. Sonic looks with surprise initially but, then says that now he realizes why his quills were tingling, the light on the ceiling shines forth upon him, Shadow the Hedgehog.
