The Sonic X Zone is a location that appears in the anime series Sonic X and its comic series published by Archie Comics. It is an alternate dimension with similarities to Mobius Prime and part of the multiverse. In this Zone, Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends got transported from their home planet, to modern day Earth via Chaos Control. They meet and befriend a young human boy named Christopher Thorndyke, and take refuge at his home with him and his family. Every so often, Dr. Eggman would try to cause havoc in the city of Station Square, in his plans to take over the world, only for Sonic and the gang to stop him whenever it happened.

History[]

Anime[]

Past[]

A long time ago, Earth and what would become known as Sonic's world were once one, but a cataclysmic event split the planet in two and sent them to different dimensions, with Earth ending up in the Sonic X Zone.[1]

Millenia ago, a continent called Murasia once existed on the surface of the Earth. However, the murasians eventually caused their whole continent to sink below the sea, forming an underground world.[2][3]

About fifty years ago, the government hired Gerald Robotnik and other scientists to work on top-secret military weapons on the Space Colony ARK. Gerald in particular was put in charge of Project Shadow, a research project aiming to find the secrets to immortality. Gerald would successfully create an immortal creature, but was soon captured and while the other ARK scientists were silenced by the GUN when they began to fear the research. Gerald was then taken to Prison Island in order to continue doing his research under the eyes of the government. However, despite this, he was still able to secretly plan his revenge against humanity using Shadow the Hedgehog and the Bio Lizard.[4][5]

New World Saga[]

Due to a massive Chaos Control phenomenon on Sonic's world, Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose, Cream the Rabbit, Cheese, Rouge the Bat, Doctor Eggman, Decoe, Bocoe and Bokkun got teleported to Earth, the parallel-universe version of their world with humans. Upon his arrival, Sonic got chased by the police, but escaped into a mansion's swimming pool, where he was rescued by a boy named Christopher Thorndyke, who lived in the mansion with his movie-star mother Lindsey, corporate executive father Nelson, scientist grandfather Chuck, maid and chef Ella, and butler Mr. Tanaka.[6] Sonic later rescued Cream and Cheese from Area 99 with the aid of Tails, Chris and Chuck.[7] Meanwhile, Dr. Eggman made his first move tot take over Earth by attacking Station Square. Sonic and friends, however, stopped him and found Amy and Knuckles in the process, although Knuckles left on his own afterwards.[8]

Realizing that they needed the Chaos Emeralds to get back to their home planet, Sonic and co. made it their mission to collect the Chaos Emeralds, which had ended up on Earth, before Eggman could use them for his nefarious deeds. When one Chaos Emerald appeared in Station Square, Sonic and co. fought Eggman over it. Eventually, the heroes got away with the Emerald.[9] Eggman soon after tricked Knuckles into fighting Sonic while he took their friends hostage, but Eggman's plot was soon uncovered and foiled.[10] Eggman soon after tried brainwashing the children of Station Square with his E-51 Intelligente. However, his plan did not go as intended and Sonic soon showed up and foiled it entirely.[11] Chris' mother later tried holding a house party, but had to leave it to attend a movie shoot. During this party, Chris, Chuck and Tanaka tried keeping the visitors from Sonic's world hidden from Ella and the guests. Eventually though, they let Ella in on their secret, allowing Sonic and co. to roam the mansion on their own.[12] Eggman soon after tried to steal the world's satellites, but was foiled by Sonic and co. with their new X Tornado.[13] Eggman's next attack was on the newly opened Hotel de Blanc on Emerald Coast, but Sonic and Amy put an end to Eggman's ambitions.[14] When the next Chaos Emerald was discovered in the Diamond Stadium, Sonic and co. went head-to-head with Eggman and his robots in a baseball game over the Chaos Emeralds. In the end though, Eggman got away with the newly discovered Emerald.[15] With Eggman's activities catching the attention of the President, the government decide to catch Sonic and co. to have them work for them. In the end though, they got Rouge, whom they convinced to become an agent for GUN and partner of federal agent Topaz. With the aid of GUN, Rouge and Topaz went to Eggman's fortress and got its schematics.[16]

Eventually, GUN launched a direct assault on Eggman's fortress after they lured Eggman away by giving him the location of a Chaos Emerald. Clashing with Sonic and co. over the Emerald, which the heroes had managed to locate too, Eggman ultimately got away with the Emerald. However, Sonic and co. pursued Eggman back to his base, just as it was under attack. In the end, Sonic got both of Eggman's Chaos Emeralds back and Eggman was seemingly defeated when the combined efforts from Sonic, his allies and GUN resulted in Eggman's being fortress, leaving Sonic and his friends to be hailed as heroes.[17][18]

Chaos Emerald Saga[]

After the victory over Eggman, Sonic and his friends were invited to meet the President. When Sonic did not want to come due to a previous obligation to Helen however, the President's aide, Jerome Wise, tried to bring by force. Eventually though, Sonic arrived on his own.[19] Sonic's friends later tried to enjoy Station Square on their own when Eggman returned in his Egg Fort to destroy Station Square. However, Sonic and co. brought him and his robot army down.[20] When later going on a vacation, Sonic and co. found another Chaos Emerald in the Sapphire Sea. They briefly fought Eggman over it, but the heroes ultimately emerged victorious.[21] Meanwhile, Knuckles obtained another Chaos Emerald with the aid of Hawk after fighting both Rouge and Eggman over it.[22] Sonic and his allies later visited a savannah where they both fought Eggman and foiled a crooked plot to built a dam.[23] They later went to one of Lindsey's movie shootings, during which they had an encounter with the ghostly King Boom Boo and his minions.[24] After that, the heroes went on a cruise (which Sonic was dissatisfied with), during which Eggman attacked them with his new Egg Fort II. However, thanks to Ella and the X Tornado, Eggman and his lackeys were literally sent packing.[25]

Eventually, Sonic was convinced to have a race with Sam Speed. In the end, Sonic won by a landslide.[26] Later, Chris and his friends went on a camping trip, during which they discovered a Chao colony. This colony was nearly ruined when Eggman attacked the group, but thanks to Sonic, Eggman was defeated and the Chao colony was saved.[27] Sonic soon after ended up on a mad run due to getting a microchip from one of Eggman's robots stuck in his ear, leaving his friends to try and stop him, but without success. Fortunately, Sonic stopped running after getting the microchip out by chance.[28] Chris and Knuckles later tried working with Eggman to get Sonic and co. back to their world by bringing him the Chaos Emeralds they had. However, Eggman would up betraying them, kidnapping Chris and seizing the Emeralds for himself. As Eggman went to the last Emerald, Sonic and GUN tried to stop him. However, using his E-99 Eggsterminator and the Chaos Emeralds, Eggman gained the upper hand. Thanks to Chris however, Sonic got all the Chaos Emeralds. Transforming into Super Sonic, Sonic defeated Eggman and his robot, and triggered another Chaos Control phenomenon that sent the Mystic Ruins and Angel Island to Earth.[29][30]

Chaos Saga[]

Six months later, as a result of Angel Island and other relics being brought to Earth, Dr. Eggman managed to get his hands on the entity known as Chaos. Through Chaos, the doctor planned to conquer the Earth by seeking out the Chaos Emeralds for Chaos to strengthen its power. After encountering Chaos, Sonic and his allies sought to retrieve the Chaos Emeralds before Eggman could give them to Chaos. Eventually, the heroes seemingly stopped Chaos after it had acquired six Chaos Emeralds.[31][32][33][34] However, Chaos would soon betray Eggman and transform into Perfect Chaos on its own, who would rampage across Station Square, with its goal being to destroy the rest of Earth. Amidst the chaos, an echidna girl named Tikal, who entombed herself and Chaos in the Master Emerald millennia ago, emerged to help placate it. Afterward, thanks to the support of Sonic's allies and humanity, Sonic transformed into Super Sonic and neutralize Chaos. Chaos then returned to the Master Emerald with Tikal.[35][36]

Shadow Saga[]

Shortly afterwards, Eggman finds his grandfather's diary and his old Project Shadow in a military base. After being released by Eggman, Shadow agreed to help Eggman with his plans for world domination.[37][38] Shadow subsequently provided Eggman with the Eclipse Cannon on the Space Colony ARK for him to threaten the Earth into submission.[38][39] Needing the Chaos Emeralds for the cannon, Eggman looked for the Emeralds with his allies, eventually leading Sonic to be targeted by the government when he was mistaken for Shadow.[38][39][40] Escaping the government, Sonic and his allies tracked Eggman to the Space Colony ARK.[39][40] On the ARK, Eggman was able to insert the seven Emeralds into the Eclipse Cannon, but Sonic would disable it. Still, the Emeralds sent the ARK on a collision with Earth, the impact of which would destroy the planet.[5][41] Though Sonic and his allies stopped the ARK itself, the Bio Lizard would fused with the ARK and keep it on its collision course. In response, Sonic and Shadow, the latter now reformed, teamed up and used the Chaos Emeralds to transform into Super Sonic and Super Shadow respectively. Destroying the Final Lizard, the hedgehogs used Chaos Control to sent the ARK back into orbit. However, Shadow was seemingly killed in the process.[5]

Egg Moon Saga[]

Having blown up the Moon with the Eclipse Cannon, Eggman rebuilt the Moon, seemingly out of remorse. Meanwhile, Chaos Control irregularities would cause more inhabitants from Sonic's world to appear on Earth.[42] The new Egg Moon soon after shifted position however, creating a never-ending solar eclipse. Having staged this in secret, Eggman provided the population with "Sunshine Balls" which provided the world with artificial sunlight. In truth however, it was plot by Eggman to hypnotize the world into choosing him as their leader with his Sunshine Balls. Sonic saw through Eggman's motivations however, and Eggman was soon arrested.[43][44]

Emerl Saga[]

In an effort to break Eggman out of jail, Bokkun activated a robot named Emerl. Though, Bokkun's plot was eventually foiled, Emerl was soon found by Cream.[45] Emerl soon after befriend Sonic and his friends. Meanwhile, Eggman managed to break out of jail after creating a distraction by making all the household appliances in Station Square to go on a rampage, a rampage of which Sonic and his allies stopped.[46] Attempts were made by several individuals to recapture Eggman, but the doctor managed to elude them.[47] In the end, the President threw a tournament to lure Eggman out by making the grand prize a Chaos Emerald.[48] When Emerl won the tournament though, the Emerald's power made him go berserk until Cream and Cheese destroyed him.[49]

Homebound Saga[]

Sometime later, Knuckles discovered the world's oldest map, which would be stolen by Decoe and Bocoe for Dr. Eggman. With it, Eggman planned to find the ancient continent of Murasia and through it, set off a chain reaction of volcanoes to destroy the Earth and build his Eggman Empire on the ashes of the old world.[2] However, due to interference from Sonic and his allies, and an ancient Murasian robot, Eggman was ultimately unable to pull this off.[3]

Later, Dr. Kim Bickley announced that Sonic's world and Earth were rejoining, which would stop time irreversibly, and the only way to stop it was to send the residents of Sonic's world back home. Tails and Chuck began to build a gate to teleport Sonic and company back to their own world with Chaos Control, but Chris did not want his friends to leave.[1] When the gate was finished and all the Earth's visitors but Sonic had left though, Chris suddenly shut the machine down.[50] Chris then whisked Sonic into the woods to hide out of fear that with Sonic gone, he would be all alone again since his parents were never home. However, Sonic helped Chris come to terms with his feelings, and the two parted ways when Sonic used the seven Chaos Emeralds to induce Chaos Control and return home, stopping the merging of the worlds.[51][52]

Metarex Saga[]

Six years after all the inhabitants from Sonic's world left Earth, Chris devised a way for him to visit Sonic's world.[53] Having left without saying goodbye, Chris' friends and family made several attempts to reach him from Earth.[54][55][56] Chris eventually attempted to return to Earth himself while travel between Sonic's world and Earth was still possible, although whether he made it or not is unclear.[57]

Archie Comics[]

After a couple of misadventures, Eggman imprisoned Sonic's human friends inside robots and tried to use them to kill Sonic and co. However, Sonic and co. were able to free their friends without harming them.[58][59][60][61] Eggman later used malicious Chao to destroy Station Square, but Tikal and Chaos soon arrived and helped Sonic and co. subdue them before taking them with them to their realm.[62][63] Soon after, Sonic found a machine in the desert and thought nothing of it, but after fighting with Eggman in Paris and being trapped in a bizarre virtual world created by the doctor, Eggman revealed the desert machine was his and it began to wreck Station Square. Sonic defeated it, but he was accused of working with Eggman, so he and Tails were both locked up. Nelson managed to bail Sonic out of jail however, and he saved Cream and Chris from some ghosts.[64][65][66][67][68][69][70][71]

Eggman soon enacted more malicious schemes based on holidays like Christmas, Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day.[72][73][74] Afterwards, he temporarily fired Decoe and Bocoe and created replacements, Dukow and Bukow.[75] Sonic soon after got kidnapped by an organization called S.O.N.I.C.X. Sonic escaped with ease, but S.O.N.I.C.X. repeatedly tried to ruin his reputation.[76][77][78][79][80] Meanwhile, Sonic and co. took on Eggman in his various schemes—including becoming a wrestler and creating a circus.[81][82] Later, Metal Sonic appeared from the Prime Zone and allied itself with Eggman to defeat Sonic, but Shadow Prime managed to step in and warp himself and Metal Sonic to another dimension.[83]
