Sonic Advance 3 (ソニックアドバンス3 Sonikku Adobansu 3?) is an action platform video game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and the last title in the Sonic Advance trilogy. It was co-developed by Dimps and Sonic Team and released in June 2004 for the Game Boy Advance. The narrative of the game is a continuation of the story of Sonic Battle, featuring Sonic and his friends as they stop Dr. Eggman and his minion Gemerl, built from the data of Emerl, from establishing an empire on a shattered world.
Unlike its predecessors, the gameplay of Sonic Advance 3 features a team-based mechanic, allowing the player to control any two of the five characters; each one has different abilities that allow varying access to parts of levels. The game received positive reviews, attracting praise for its gameplay and presentation, although the team-up dynamic polarized critics. It was also a commercial success, selling over 100,000 copies in the United Kingdom alone.
