This is a set of general guidelines to follow when creating and editing mainspace articles concerning a video game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Although this is an official guide, editors are encouraged to stray from them if it will improve the overall quality of the article.

Legend[]

  • Yellow boxes are general guidelines meant to pertain to the main text on the page.
  • Green boxes are guidelines for headers.
  • Red boxes are guidelines for anything else.

Add a quote here. Preferably a tagline or a quote from a character that sums up the game's story or moral.

This is the summary. The purpose of the summary is the summarize the game and its most important qualities or traits in a single paragraph.

Plot[]

Not "story" or "storyline". "Plot".

This section summarizes the story told by the game. Make it easy to read; don't go into minor details such as specific actions and quotes.

Gameplay[]

What are the defining elements of this game's gameplay? What's different about this game? Are there any new moves? Any new gimmicks? Describe the core gameplay in the gameplay overview

Add different headers for moves, items, and the like. Headers for characters, levels, and enemies fit here, too.

Development[]

Here's where you do your research. This section is meant to describe only how the game was made. Don't tell how hype for the game was increased, or how details about the game were gradually revealed... we care only for the behind-the-scenes stuff. Use plenty of references from primary sources; you can never have too many references in this section. Interviews with developers are very good for referencing.

Add anything that doesn't belong under the other headers here, in its own section. (not part of "gameplay")

Cast[]

Make a table for the voice cast here. Maybe a reference linking to the credits.

Soundtrack[]

Here, link the soundtrack with the {{Main}} template.

Briefly summarize the soundtrack. What genre(s)? What composer? What's the musical theme of the game. Do not include the track listing.

Release[]

This section summarizes release dates of the game from different regions around the world. How the game was advertised and did it have any advertising campaign going prior the release? References are also very important.

If the game has re-releases and alternate ports for different game consoles, add different headers for re-releases, and the like. This includes inserting link the re-release with the {{Main}} template.

Reception[]

How did critics respond to the game? If you can find a suitable reference, include how players responded to the game. Positives and negatives? Add a quote or two from critics. References are very important.

Trivia[]

Using bullet points (*), make a list of interesting or little-known facts about the game. Provide references if necessary. Be careful what you list; the trivia section's main purpose is to be interesting, not lengthy.

Gallery[]

It's preferred that games should have a separate gallery page. Link to the page with the {{Tab}} template being placed atop the article.. That's it!

References[]

This section is simply to store all the references in the page. Put only the <references/> tag under this header.

External links[]

Using bullet points, add a few links to sites you feel complement the information stored on this page. Two links that should always be put down are the Japanese and English official websites.
A game template should be put here, as well as any other navboxes that apply to this game.
