The franchise stars a blue hedgehog named Sonic created by Naoto Ōshima, Yuji Naka and Hirokazu Yasuhara. The series began from the first video game being developed by Sonic Team for Sega Genesis in 1991. Many games are based around high-speed platforming with momentum-based gameplay and involving Sonic and his allies saving animal friends and the world from various threats, primarily Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, the main antagonist of the series. Sonic the Hedgehog has then become Sega's most successful franchise and being merchandised into television series, manga, comics, toys, books, trading cards, and other media. |
