Sonic R is an LCD game that was developed and released by Tiger Electronics in 1998. It is a loose version of the Sega Saturn version of Sonic R.
Plot[]
Dr. Robotnik has set up a race to prove that Sonic is not as fast as he thinks he is. He challenges Sonic to race through five courses and see if he can complete each race within ninety seconds. Sonic, unwilling to back down from a challenge, accepts to participate in Robotnik's race.[1] In the end however, he completes each race and proves that he is the fastest.
Gameplay[]
Sonic R is a third-person video game. Unlike the Sega Saturn version, Sonic is the only playable character in this game. Sonic R features five courses.
In Sonic R, the player will have to run through a course full of obstacles, such as piles of tires, which can be avoided by running to the sides, and roadblocks, which the player has to jump over to progress. Occasionally, the player will also find accelerator pads, which they can use to increase Sonic's speed for a short period of time. There are certain items as well that can be used to get points, such as Rings, Chaos Emeralds, and Sonic Tokens. The score these items grants the player depends on the level played.
Each race must be completed in ninety seconds. Doing so will award the player bonus points. If the player takes longer to beat a race, they will still be able to complete it, but they will not receive any bonus points.
