This is a set of general guidelines to follow when creating and editing mainspace articles concerning a Comic Issue related to the Sonic the Hedgehog series franchise. Although this is an official guide, editors are encouraged to stray from them if it will improve the overall quality of the article.


  • Yellow boxes are general guidelines meant to pertain to the main text on the page.
  • Green boxes are guidelines for headers.
  • Red boxes are guidelines for anything else.
  • Light-blue boxes are minor editorial notes for that particular section.

Comic issues usually have corresponding ones coming before or after it. The "Issue order" template is to be placed here to allow quick navigation between and from corresponding comic issues.
The "Infobox comic" template is to be inserted here. Information in regards to the comic issue are to be filled as much as possible including, but not limited to: Date(s) of release (can include national and international), the company(s) which published it, issue number, title and production personnel involved with its creation (eg. writers, penciller). The main cover of the comic book issue is to placed in the image section of the template. Some comic book issues may come with multiple variant covers. These can also be placed in the image section of the template under multiple tabbers under names (for "Variant") Var. 1, Var.2, and so forth. The main image cover for the issue is to listed under the tab "Main".
This is the summary. The purpose of this is to surmise the comic issue in in regards to real-world information such as the date it was published, the company(s) which produced it and a short paragraph noting the issue's correspondence (if any) to previous issues or ongoing story arcs. It should be no longer than a paragraph, with further information elaborated below.

Official solicitation

Some comic issues may provide a solicitation given by the publisher. The solicitation contains a brief about the story in which the comic issue will be centered in, as well as a nod of acknowledgement to some of the comic issue's real life producers who had taken part in the issue's creation.

Some comic issues may feature 2 or more stories in a single issue. If so, if not written in sequence with the previous story or when written in separate sections, each solicitation of featured stories are to be separated by paragraphs under the heading of the story's title.

Featured stories

This is the Featured stories section. The purpose of this section is to list any and all stories which appear in this issue. Some issues feature 2 or more stories and thus, must be separated into paragraphs under the sub-heading of each of their respective titles. Below the subheading should contain a list of production personnel such as writers, pencillers, colorists, editors etc. under bullet points (*)
This is the Synopsis section. As the name suggests, the purpose of this section to provide a detailed synopsis of the story. As mentioned above, some issues may contain 2 or more featured stories and thus, each synopsis of featured stories are separated by sub-headings followed by the paragraph containing the synopsis. Images of comic shots from the story are allowed, but they must not be full pages scans and have the "thumb" size. Place the images appropriately so the article reads smoothly.
This is the' Character appearance section. The purpose of this section is to list any and all characters which appear in this story. Each character must be listed under bullet points (*) with a link to their respective main articles. Each character which make their first appearance, last appearance or only mentioned are to be noted between parenthesis eg '(first appearance)' or (mentioned only)'.
Some comic issues may contain other stories or 'off-panels' which may not be of directly-linked canon the main featured (stories). The section which is to include such features is to be constructed under the same fashion of 'featured stories'


This section is for comic issue continuity nods. The purpose of this section is to list any references or throwbacks to events in previous issues. Oppositely, if a story element from this issue is referenced in later issues, then this story element and its relation to later issue is to be listed here as well. This section, however, is not for listing recurring objects or entities which serve more as stage props and has no relevance to the storyline.

Other features

Some comic issues may regularly contain special features, such as editorial notes, officially-provided and annotated concept art, featured fan-art and fan-mail.

Each feature should provide a quick summary, no longer than a few sentences.

Editorial notes/concept art: A quick summary, including the name of editor is to be provided here of the information they have given.

Example: "Editor *insert editor's name here* has provided notes for design and concept art for *insert object/character/background name here*

Fan-Art: A quick summary, including the name of the artist, subject/context of the artwork and origin/delivery method to the production company which is given.

Example: "First artwork is a depiction of Sonic the Hedgehog running through Green Hill Zone by Eric H. from Minnesotta/sent to @archiecomic/other website"

Fan-mail: A quick summary, including the name of the sender, their message and reply from the production company which are provided.

Example: "Eric H. from Minnesotta/sent to @archiecomic/other website has written asking *insert name of fan-mail section of comic issue* whether Silver the Hedgehog will make an appearance in upcoming issues, in which the writer responds answering *insert provided position of the writer*.


This section is for featuring quotes and conversations that appear in the issue. These quotes must be written word-for-word as for how they were said and are to be presented in the following way:

Sonic: STICKS™ THE BADGER! You can relax! We already sent Eggman packing.
Sticks: ...Did you just say my name as a logo?
Sonic: Yeah, it's a first issue gimmick. We'll go back to regular lettering next month.
Knuckles: Ha! That thing's hat looks just like Tails' house!
Amy: It is Tails' house!
Knuckles: Oh. I didn't know Tails lived in a hat. Does that mean he's got a postal code or a hat size?

Not all quotes in the issue must be added to this section. Instead, it should only include those that hold significance to the issue, highlight the characters' traits, or exemplify the issue's themes.

Regional differences

The purpose of this section is to provide additional detail in regards to regional difference (if any) present which may be present in the comic issue. Disregarding obvious information such as differently translated language, information here could include minor or major changes such may include censorship, after-edits or section cuts and similar information (eg. references to national culture which may not make sense to another nation which has been changed etc.)

The Trivia section is about small pieces of information about the comic issue that do not fit in any of the sections above. Here, the editor must make a list of these little-known facts by using bullet points (*), where each piece of information being given its own paragraph. Please note it is required that the Trivia is informative, not lengthy and pointless.


This section is for images from the comic issue. It is recommended to be limited to insertion of significant images in relation to the comic issue. Such images should include limited preview pages from within the comic itself, official artwork, promotional works such as advertisement or other imagery which may feature the comic issue.
  • All imagery to be placed in the gallery must be of official sources only (having appeared in at least one officially released, or licensed media.)
