Sonic Lost World (ソニックロストワールド Sonikku Rosuto Wārudo?) is an upcoming video game and the next main installment in Sonic the Hedgehog series. The game is being released exclusively for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, and both versions are slated for a Fall 2013 release.[2] The game is currently under development by Sonic Team and is to be published by Sega.
Story
Sonic is chasing after his longtime foe, Eggman, and encounters a mysterious floating island known as “Lost Hex,” where he'll run across the Deadly Six.[3]. The Deadly Six were united under Eggman for his own needs until they betrayed him. Sonic and Eggman team up together to stop their misdeeds.
Gameplay
The player controls Sonic the Hedgehog in an action platformer. The setting of the gameplay takes place on spherical worlds that shift in perspective, allowing for both 2D and 3D gameplay. The game has been noted to play nearly the same as the cancelled game Sonic X-Treme.[4][5][6]
A new control system has been created for this game. Moving the directional controls will move Sonic at a moderate pace, whilst holding down a trigger button will engage his running speed, with an additional trigger rolling Sonic into a ball. The Spin Dash has been said to return. A "parkour" system is introduced, allowing Sonic to maneuver across obstacles and run up walls. The game will also feature the Color Powers.
Sonic can rescue small animals by destroying badniks and collect Red Rings which unlock additional content.[7]. The 3DS version of the game will also contain fully 3D gameplay, unlike the handheld versions of Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations.
Development
Originally, Sega registered the trademark and the web address of the game's website on May 16, 2013.[8] The game was first announced at a presentation of Nintendo Direct on May 17, 2013.[9] According to Nintendo's Satoru Iwata, it is announced that Nintendo itself has entered into a worldwide partnership with Sega regarding the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.[9]
The first teaser image was revealed during the Nintendo Direct, showing Sonic and Tails flying with Tornado to the new main setting of the game, later being revealed and named as "Lost Hex". Later Sega uploaded another teaser picture to the Facebook account, which showed silhouettes of mysterious new characters. The game is later also revealed to feature new enemies and gameplay mechanics.[10] On May 28, 2013, the debut trailer came out, revealing the mysterious enemy group called as Deadly Six and showing the first gameplay footage.[11] On the next day, lots of story details, new gameplay mechanics and collectible contents was revealed.[12] [13]
On June 23, 2013, the game is announced to being featured and more information is to be told by the game's development team in upcoming event of Sonic's 22nd anniversary, which is held at Tokyo Joypolis. [14]
