Sonic Frontiers Prologue: Convergence (プロローグ:Convergence(収束)[4],Purorōgu: Konbājensu (shūsoku)?) is a one-shot digital comic published by Sega that is based on Sonic Frontiers, its purpose being to promote the aforementioned game. This one-shot is a short, self-contained story that serves as a prequel to the Sonic Frontiers storyline.[5]
Tails and Sonic are flying in the Tornado, with the former telling the latter that Amy said she would meet them on the island up ahead. While the fox calculates that they will land in about five minutes, Sonic requests that he hurries as he witnesses Amy fending off against Dr. Eggman in a Shellcracker-like mech with several Crabmeats and Shellcrackers attacking her as well. Amy sees that Sonic and Tails have arrived and taunts Eggman on how he will not win; the doctor responds saying "Get a load of this!" Sonic attacks the cockpit of Eggman's mech and asks if Amy saved any small Badniks for him. She apologizes as she smashes the last one with her hammer. Eggman yells "All systems--full power!" before attempting to crush Sonic and Amy with the mech's big right claw. Amy manages to deflect this attack with her hammer, leaving Sonic to jokingly tell her not to hog all the fun.
Before Eggman can attack again, Tails dismantles the screws of the claw, causing it fall off of the mech. However, Eggman exclaims "Time for a change of pace!" and the left claw begins shooting fireballs at Sonic and Amy. After deducing that he has heard these quotes before, Sonic decides to try and wrap the battle quickly, asking Amy for ideas. She asks Tails to help her take down the mech's legs. This allows Sonic to deliver a final strike at the mech's cockpit. However, once Sonic peers who is inside, he realizes that it is not Eggman but instead a robotic decoy that plays repeat quotes that Eggman has already said in the past. Tails deduces that this is part of a bigger plan, believing that Eggman is actually trying to distract them from reaching the Starfall Islands. Recalling that they invited Amy to join them in search of the Chaos Emeralds there, Tails explains that the Starfall Islands is a mysterious archipelago where a long-lost civilization once lived; for some unknown reason, the Chaos Emeralds began gathering there. Amy sees this as a sign that Eggman is definitely up to something seeing that he would employ the use of a decoy. As Sonic asks if Amy sees the fun in this journey with the mystery, action, and adventure, she replies that she does. The three of them then set off for the first of the islands, Kronos Island.
Meanwhile, on Kronos Island, Eggman has set up his base and asks his new artificial intelligence for a status report; it tells him that his assets have been deployed to all islands and his supply caches have been distributed. With this, the doctor is pleased to begin surveying the islands and be in possession of the technology that once belonged to the "Ancients". Orbot and Cubot video call Eggman asking how his "island excursion" is, which annoys the doctor as he sees it as a business trip. Orbot apologizes and soon relays the news that Sonic and his friends destroyed D3-COY. Eggman angrily asks why he is just learning this now, to which Orbot replies that there were "technical difficulties" trying to reach him. The A.I. speaks up, telling Eggman that there was actually a significant delay between D3-COY's destruction and the video call, pointing out Orbot and Cubot's lie. Still annoyed, Eggman tells the robots to keep things running until he returns. The doctor angrily rants about his efforts to give life-like personalities to some of his robots, only to receive frustration in return; he wishes to have a creation to fill him with pride instead of regret. Seeing that the technology on the Starfall Islands was staggeringly advanced, he considers taking them for his own to craft the ultimate weapon.
Before doing any of this, Eggman realizes he has to speed up his plans as Sonic was on his way. His A.I. warns the doctor that its integration is untested, and an accelerated timetable would not be advised. Eggman retorts that he developed the A.I. to protect him and his coding is impeccable. There was no time to waste with Sonic in the way, and thus requests the A.I. to download itself for deployment. The A.I. downloads itself into a drive that Eggman collects. The doctor flies off with his Egg Mobile and approaches an ancient-looking throne. Eggman plots to have his A.I. make quick work of the Ancients' cyber security, with the goal of taking over all of their technology on the islands.
Some of the quotes uttered by "Dr. Eggman" during the battle are based on Eggman's battle quotes from previous games:
"Get a load of this!", "No way! I can't believe this!", "All systems--full power!", and "See if you can make it through here, Sonic!" are all quotes from Sonic Adventure.
There are grammatical errors on the English version of page 5. Tails' first line writes "This is all part of a bigger plan! he's trying to distract us from the Starfall Islands!", and Amy's second line writes "And now Eggman launches a decoy to keep us busy. he's definitely up to something!", with neither of the two "He's" being capitalized.
However, on the official Sonic Twitter, in the alt text presented with the page, the word is correctly formatted as "He's".
