Otherworld Comedy, also known as Isekai Ōgiri (異世界大喜利 Isekai Ōgiri?), was a monthly series of wallpapers containing a what-if story involving an established character from the Sonic series alongside another chosen by the community, released in 2023. They were written by Eitaro Toyoda and illustrated by Tomoko Hayane. They were released exclusively in Japanese.
The stories are comedic in nature, having unlikely scenarios involving the cast of characters. Originally, the community could vote on the website Twitter, but when the site was rebranded to X, the votes were done through Google.

The Morning of the Beginning[]
Summary[]
In this short prologue, the comic tells of how Earth was enveloped by a strange anomaly that changed all of its inhabitants, with Avatar getting dressed as a young Japanese student confessing his love to an Egg Pawn, who likewise ended up dressed in a dress and falling for the rookie.
Shadow the Hedgehog is trapped by the anomaly, getting transformed into a J-pop idol, who is waiting for his companion to arrive to the stage.

Story Act 1: Ultimate and Limitless[]
Summary[]
After a concert in a live music club, the audience was intoxicated by the performance done by the singers. Nobody knew how they arrived to there, not even the performers, but everybody enjoyed the show except for Shadow, who felt he didn't obtain the perfection he was looking for.
Shadow tells his partner, Infinite, to not get in his way, for he holds him down. Infinite laughs, telling him he has no interest in Shadow's smugness at playing perfection. Shadow considers that reply a confession of Infinite being a "fake".
As they discuss, something in the amnesiac Shadow's mind reacts. He finally looks at Infinite to the face, and tells him that his face annoys him. Shadow then kicks Infinite and the door far away in the darkness of the night, with Shadow not bothering to look at his former "partner", telling him to not show his face before him again.
Shadow left a word that he and his partner are no longer working together.
The epilogue reveals that the live music club was originally an Eggman Base.

Story Act 2: The Melancholy of a Magical Princess[]

Blaze the Cat, a magical princess who has saved countless individuals, goes for guidance to her friend Amy Rose, a famous fortune-teller, in her mansion.
Amy, armed with a hammer, smashes a boiled egg and is surprised by how far the shell scatters. After examining the pieces on the floor, she confidently declares that the Clothesline and the egg will help solve all problems quickly.
Blaze confides in about feeling powerless to save the world. Amy reassures Blaze that her actions have already made a difference and that together, they can create a chain reaction of peace. Through a strange divination involving an egg and the Clothesline constellation, Blaze finds comfort and resolve. Amy encourages Blaze to break out of her shell and try new things, leading to a shopping trip for new outfits. With a newfound confidence and charm, Blaze's fan base grows, bringing the world closer to a future of peace and unity.
This anomaly, unlike anything seen before, is different from Shadow's. Various changes are happening in different areas, including Amy's house transforming into a fortune-telling mansion and the night sky appearing drastically different with two bright blue moons and strange constellations. It seems as though this is the only place in the world that has been affected by these changes. Despite this, Amy and Blaze's personalities remain unchanged, adding to the mystery of the situation. The anomaly continues to deepen, leaving more questions unanswered.

- This calendar story marks the first appearance of Princess Elise in mainstream media since her cameo appearance in Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. It is also the first work she has actively played a role in since her debut in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).
- Silver giving Elise the blue Chaos Emerald harkens back to their first meeting in the cutscene "The Talisman" from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), where Silver gives Elise the blue Emerald before returning to the present. Silver calls the Emerald a "lucky charm" in both instances.
- Interestingly, despite the Solaris Project never occurring due to the timeline wipe that came with erasing Solaris' flame, Elise's father is seemingly referred to in the phrase "late parents."

Story Act 6: The True Princess!?[]
Summary[]
Tails and Marine are both in a play, enacting the play of Romeo and Juliet, in which Tails plays Juliet and Marine plays Romeo. In the middle of one of his lines, Tails suddenly snaps out of the Otherworld's influence and regains awareness, which prompts him to question the situation he finds himself in. After briefly interrupting the play, Tails is forced to continue acting in order to avoid embarassment by improvising along with Marine's help.
Days later, Tails does a more thorough research on what happened to his surroundings. Though he tries to warn Marine of the situation, she has no idea of what he's trying to say, remembering him only as the leader of the "Coconut Troupe." Tails continues to act in the plays for the time being, as every example he brings up of the world being altered gets misinterpreted by Marine as an idea for a play. Growing ever more frustrated, Tails runs out the theater, bumping into Sonic, who, unlike others, also retained his memories.
Now with Sonic, Tails regains his composure and learns about the origin of the anomaly. According to the hedgehog, they were all attempting to thwart a scheme from Dr. Eggman, which somehow engulfed the entire world in an anomaly. Tails also discovers that the reason he and Sonic retained their memories was due to the Chaos Emeralds the two were holding at the time of the incident. The two now plan to defeat Dr. Eggman and restore the world to what it once was.

- The poll was contested until 7 July, falling on the same day as Tanabata, a Japanese festival of two lovers, who were separated across the universe, reuniting. This festival has been implied by Sonic Channel with Silver and Blaze before- specifically their matching 2013 calendar art - likely in reference to how their bond pursues over both time and space.

- Otherworld Comedy and the 2021 cover stories share the same core characters for their December artwork: Eggman and Super Sonic.
- As with the 2021 story, the December story features previous calendar story characters coming together to defeat the threat from Eggman.
- Infinite, Amy, Tikal, Chaos, Elise, Vanilla, Marine, Cream and Big are the only calendar story characters not to appear in the first part of the final story. Of this list only Amy and Chaos are mentioned.
- Marine is the only Otherworld Comedy character not to feature in either part of the December story. According to Toyoda, this is because she regained her memories at a slower rate compared to everyone else.
- As with the 2021 story, the December story features previous calendar story characters coming together to defeat the threat from Eggman.
- While its never outright confirmed who says it, its implied (since the dialogue matches up with the second item in the list of accessories which is a pendant) that Silver calls the blue Chaos Emerald a talisman or a 'lucky charm' like he did in the April story with Elise - which once more is a reference to the cutscene 'the talisman' from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).
- The "Egg Field" is similar to the Genesis Wave in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series published by Archie Comics, as both are phenomena made by a powerful gem, which Eggman uses to rewrite reality as how he sees fit.
- Several past locations used in the 2023 calendar stories are mentioned. There is mention of the stage where Shadow and Infinite performed, the fortune-telling hall that Amy owns and Tikal and Chaos' pizzeria. At the end of the story, all the characters are gathered together in the pizzeria.
- The characters disappearing into light when leaving the Otherworlds is reminiscent of how Classic Sonic returned to the past at the end of Sonic Forces.
- This story explains the origins behind the strange locations in the calendar stories: they are created from the heart's desire.
- This was the first and only 2023 calendar story to include two parts.
