Sonic Boom is Sonic the Hedgehog's Signature Move in Sonic Rivals and Sonic Rivals 2. It is a move that gives Sonic a temporary boost of speed, similar to the Boost.

Description of the Sonic Boom

When executing Sonic Boom, Sonic jumps into the air shouting "Sonic Boom", while drawing up wind around him, before using it to launch himself forward with a burst of speed so great that it breaks the sound barrier. Sonic will then fall back on the ground and start running normally with streams of air released in his wake. While active, the Sonic Boom gives Sonic increased speed and invulnerability, allowing him to damage enemies and opponents simply by running into them, much like the Sonic Boost.

While sharing a number of similarities with the Sonic Boost, the Sonic Boom cannot draw in rings that are close by when it is active. Secondly, once the Sonic Boom is activated, it will remain activated and unable to be deactivated, leaving Sonic unable to conserve the move. This makes Sonic Boom a more wild and uncontrollable version of the Sonic Boost.

As with every other Signature Move in Sonic Rivals and Sonic Rivals 2, Metal Sonic can perform this move when using his own Signature Move, Copycat, either when racing against Sonic or Metal Sonic 3.0, or on his own.

Game appearances[]

The Sonic Boom made its first appearance in Sonic Rivals. In order to perform the Sonic Boom in gameplay, the player has to obtain a Star Power-Up which is located throughout the stage. The player then has to press to activate this move. The Sonic Boom will then remain active for a short amount of time, before deactivating.

Sonic Rivals 2[]

Sonic's Signature Move propels him beyond the sound barrier.

Loading screen, Sonic Rivals 2

The Sonic Boom returned in Sonic Rivals 2 as Sonic's Signature Move again. To perform the Sonic Boom in gameplay, the player must have Sonic's Signature Meter completely filled, which can be done by collecting Rings, defeating enemies or performing boosts. Once the Signature Meter is filled, the player has to press the square button to activate the Sonic Boom. The Sonic Boost will remain active for as long as there is energy in Sonic's Signature Meter, which begins to deplete once the Sonic Boom has been activated. The player can slightly extend the duration of the move if he/she repeatedly presses Square

In this game, Metal Sonic can perform the Sonic Boom instead of his Copycat ability in the event there is no rival to copy.
