Sonic's birthday is an event that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is the date of Sonic the Hedgehog's birth. Sonic's age is fifteen years old[1] and his birthday is the 23rd of June.[2]

History

Sonic Generations

Tails and friends throwing a surprise birthday party for Sonic, from the console/PC version of Sonic Generations.

In Sonic Generations, Tails and Sonic's friends threw a surprise birthday party for Sonic. There, Sonic was given a chili dog as a present from Tails, but when the Time Eater appeared, it got blown away (much to Sonic disappointment). Immediately after, the guests were sucked into Time Holes by the Time Eater while Sonic got knocked out by the creature while trying to save his friends. After the Time Eater was defeated. the party was able to continue and Sonic got his chili dog back, which was still warm. Silver, Shadow, Classic Sonic and Classic Tails joined the party following the battle. Sometime after, during the party, Classic Sonic and Classic Tails returned to dimension through one of the Time Eater's leftover Time Holes.

Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog

In the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog television series, Sonic's birthday is celebrated twice.

Sonic's birthday was first celebrated in "Tails Prevails", where Tails built Sonic a flying bike as a birthday gift. This birthday gift made Sonic realize Tails' potential with mechanics.[3]

Sonic's birthday was celebrated again in "Robotnikland", with Tails gathering some of Sonic's friends for a party. When they learned that Sonic had been captured by Dr. Robotnik and imprisoned in the newly hijacked Robotnikland theme park, they set out to save him. After Robotnik was defeated, Sonic renamed the park after himself and celebrated his birthday with his friends.[4]

In Sonic Underground, Sonic shares his birth date with his sister Sonia and his brother Manic. This was coincidentally the same date where the portal to Mobodoon opens every four years, Mobodoon being the place of the triplets' birth. Although the exact date of their birth is unknown, Manic states it is on "the second even day of the third month".[5]

Books and comics

Archie Comics

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, Sonic was born on day 162 in the year 3221.[6] His birthday was celebrated a total of three times throughout the series.

In Sonic the Hedgehog #11, the Freedom Fighters celebrated Sonic's birthday by rewarding him with a plate of Chili dogs. Despite recently suffering from a food-based nightmare, Sonic accepted them.[7] It is unknown how old Sonic turned on this birthday.

Some time later, the Freedom Fighters would prepare a surprise party in Mobotropolis for Sonic's sixteenth birthday. However, the preparations were interrupted by several deadly meteors sent by Robo-Robotnik's K-Sat Unit. Although the meteors caused turmoil and damaged several buildings, the civilians were saved from harm by the combined efforts of Sonic and the Freedom Fighters. After a brief trip to Castle Acorn, the Freedom Fighters returned to Knothole Village, where they celebrated Sonic's birthday with a cake.[8]

One year later, the Freedom Fighters would throw another surprise birthday party for Sonic on seventeenth birthday (although he still remained physically sixteen due to the effects of his trip to space). During the party, Bark and Bean attacked the Freedom Fighters, but were easily handled by the group with the help of Shadow the Hedgehog. It turned out that Dr. Eggman sent Bark and Bean to attack the Freedom Fighters, and upon finding out his plan failed, sent Croctobot to attack Sonic.[9]

Once it arrived, Sonic laughed at the robot and called it pathetic. As the Freedom Fighters battled the robot, Rouge and Scourge arrived on scene. Before Scourge could attack Sonic, they both, along with Shadow, were grabbed by the Croctobot. The three hedgehogs destroyed the robot together. With the robot dealt with, Scourge attacked Sonic and then Shadow when he interrupted him. The other Freedom Fighters joined Sonic's side, causing Rouge and Scourge to flee. With the attacks over, the group finally celebrated Sonic's birthday.[10]
