Sonic's Bodyguard Platoon (ソニック親えい隊 Sonikku Shin'eitai?) is a group that appears in Sonic the Hedgehog Story Comic. They are a team of five female bodyguards intent on protecting Sonic the Hedgehog. They also seem to be a Sonic fan club.
History[]
Past[]
Nothing is known about the lives of the members of the Bodyguard Platoon prior to the concert on South Island, who they are, or where they came from. All that is known is that they formed a cheering group to support the singer, Sonic the Hedgehog, as his self-appointed bodyguard team. They are certainly huge and expressive fans of the heroic rockstar, as they attend his performances to be present and enjoy his music. They would excitedly cheer as close to the stage possible and displayed hearts in their speech bubbles when Sonic appeared on stage. Sonic would humor their anticipated excitement for his spectacle and make a big show out of it.
Despite being “bodyguards”, they did not display any combative capabilities when Dr. Eggman and his robots attacked Green Hill Zone. Even so, when the Band's singer, Sonic the Hedgehog, seemingly met his demise at the hands of Eggman, a member stood out from the rest in an attempt to stop the doctor from continuing his destruction. While the doctor was more amused than threatened, he was stalled long enough for Sonic to make a return and save the day.

"Doctor Eggman's Challenge!!"[]

The Sonic the Hedgehog Band is about to play, from Sonic the Hedgehog Story Comic Volume 1.
The group appeared alongside the crowd of Critters taking part in the audience of Sonic's concert. The curtains drew back, the guitar strummed loudly, the drums pounded rhythmically, and the stage lights turned on. Sonic appeared in a dramatic entrance for the crowd. He was there to preform with his band and his Bodyguard Platoon attended in case he needed protection. They blushed and cheered loudly in excitement, eating up his showmanship.
Right before Sonic could get into showing off his singing prowess, Dr. Eggman surprised everyone and attacked Sonic's stage. The rockstar was presumed to be eliminated, but the doctor didn't spare any thought of what he just destroyed. Dr. Eggman had became suspicious that an ultimate source of power, a Chaos Emerald, was in the area, buried underground, and declared he would be taking over the location. With the Chaos Emerald, he would achieve his dream of boiling the world's largest egg in the world's largest pot.

Dr. Eggman attacks the concert grounds, from Sonic the Hedgehog Story Comic Volume 1.
Dr. Eggman's many robots began their excavation and spread across the area, bringing destruction to their concert grounds. Despite Sonic being nowhere in sight, a Cucky and the blue-outfitted member confronted Eggman. Any fighting skills she may have had seemed to be no match for Dr. Eggman's robots, but she nonetheless bravely told him to stop his activities.
Amused, the doctor sent one of his Construction Robos after her for her efforts. Frightened and powerless to stop the robot's advances, she was pleasantly surprised by the return of Sonic the Hedgehog. He had survived Dr. Eggman's attack and arrived to save his bodyguard, making the doctor mad by the musician's disobedient, cool attitude.
The last time the group was shown was as Sonic stood triumphant in his victory. The blonde bodyguard waved goodbye to the mad and defeated Dr. Eggman, before returning to enjoy the concert.
Uniforms[]

Excited to see Sonic on stage, from Sonic the Hedgehog Story Comic Volume 1.
The Bodyguard Platoon consists of five unnamed human girls with animal features, different hair colors, and uniquely-colored uniforms seemingly inspired by 1980s fashion. Some members wear unique accessories, such as wristbands or a bow tie, while others do not. The blonde member wears thigh-high boots, though she is the only member seen in full, so it is unknown if the other members wear thigh-high boots as well.
The members of Sonic's Bodyguard Platoon wear tight, revealing outfits, such as crop tops and leotards. While similar, their membership allows differentiating their outfits from each other. The members of the Bodyguard Platoon include:
- A girl with short, pink hair and pink cat ears, wearing a pink crop top.
- A girl with long, brown hair and white bunny ears, wearing an orange, midriff-baring tube top.
- A girl with short, pink hair and long, pointy ears, wearing a green crop top.
- A girl with short, pink hair and white bunny ears, wearing a red leotard and a red bowtie.
- A girl with long, blonde hair styled to resemble Sonic's quills, a blue leotard with a small tail like Sonic’s (which may or may not be real), blue wristbands, blue thigh-highs boots, and a blue hairband with hedgehog ears.
Trivia[]
- The term shin'eitai (親衛隊?) refers to a phenomenon in Japanese idol culture in which enthusiastic fans form cheering groups to support idols at public appearances.
- It's possible Sonic the Hedgehog Story Comic Volume 1 is the first Sonic the Hedgehog story, or at least outside of Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), ever released but the exact release dates are unverifiable. This would make Sonic fans, the Sonic's Bodyguard Platoon, the first ever additional concepts to support the narrative throughout the entirety of the franchise.
- The blonde bodyguard is the only member of the group shown to be wearing a hairband with fake ears, while it is unknown whether the animal ears on the other members are real or not.
- Sonic's Bodyguard Platoon are never drawn by themselves. They are always companied with a Critter in the audience.
- Sonic's Bodyguard Platoon appears to have a fifth member instead four, a pink-haired rabbit girl with a red bowtie. She can be missed as she does not appear with the other four members when the group are in panels together.
- The fifth member resembles a playboy bunny, with her bunny ears, bow tie, and red one-piece.

Sonic plays music for a gathering group of humans, from Sonic the Hedgehog #81.
- In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, Sonic the Hedgehog arrived in Station Square and met humans, separate from overlanders, for the first time. Stopping by the hotel's pool, Sonic took out a guitar and started playing as five unnamed human girls gathered around him to enjoy his music.
- The Bodyguard Platoon shares some traits with Sara, from Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie. Similar to them, Sara is an extroverted human girl with animal features, who is in love with her version of Sonic. Both Sara and Sonic's Bodyguard Platoon have common elements derived from Kemonomimi characters.
