I was one of the greatest warriors among my people. I relished the chance to prove myself against the ultimate foe.

— Snake, Sonic Frontiers

Snake[1] ( Hebi?) is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They were a heroic Ancient who piloted the Titan Wyvern in a battle with The End.

Appearance[]

Snake was an Ancient with glowing eyes, claw-like hands with three fingers on each hand, two fingers on each foot, and two long protrusions at the back of their head, similar to Chaos. They had small spikes on their hips and shoulders which slanted slightly upwards. Like the other Ancients, their translucent torso contained a glowing Koco as some sort of good-luck charm.

History[]

Past[]

Snake was one of many Ancients who fled the destruction of their home world when it was attacked by an intergalactic entity known as The End. Snake settled on the Starfall Islands on earth when the Chaos Emeralds powering his ship was drawn to the planet by a larger gem.

Sometime after their arrival on the islands, The End followed the Ancients to earth and began its attacks on the planet. In an attempt to defeat their enemy, the Ancients constructed four powerful manned machines powered by the Chaos Emeralds called Titans. Snake was among those chosen to command one of these machines, dubbed Wyvern.

Snake and the other three pilots flew their Titans into space to confront The End. Despite their best efforts, the pilots were unable to defeat their enemy and as a last resort the leader of the pilots, Crane, sacrificed themself by pulling and trapping The End inside their Titan, Supreme. Crane's death, however, was not in vain, as Snake and the other two pilots were able to seal Supreme and The End inside Cyber Space, where he remained trapped for thousands of years.

Sonic Frontiers[]

On Ares Island, Sonic the Hedgehog had a vision of Snake during his battle with The End after it defeated Wyvern. Sometime later, on Rhea Island, Sonic had a vision of Snake and other Titan pilots fighting The End as he unsealed the six towers dotting the landscape.

Final Horizon[]

Snake appeared on top of the second Trial Tower on Ouranos Island. Snake laments that despite their pride as a warrior, they were unable to defeat The End and then later lost to Sonic. Snake challenged Sonic to their trial, demanding satisfaction. When Sonic overcame the trial, Snake came to respect Sonic as a fellow warrior, complimenting both his skill and spirit.

Personality[]

Very little is known about Snake, but being responsible for piloting one of the Titans implies they were very skilled and respected among their people. Snake considered themself to be a powerful warrior and enjoyed the idea of proving themself by fighting The End. As such, they were very proud of their skill and strength and disliked losing.

Trivia[]

  • Snake's trial is considered to be one of the most frustrating and most difficult parts in Sonic Frontiers amongst players, due to the extremely strict time limit, the Cyloop being the only available skill and the stripping of any previous upgrades by the Elder or Hermit Koco.
  • Snake shares some similarities to Knuckles the Echidna, both consider themselves to be great warriors and love a chance to prove themselves in combat.
  • Snake's name corresponds with his Titan, Wyvern, and the fallen Ancient tribe it was designed to honor, as said tribe developed tails instead of legs.[2]
    • Additionally, all four Titan pilots are named after creatures that are important to Chinese culture.
