Snailbot

Snail (カタツムリ), as it is named in early design documents, is a scrapped badnik that was set to appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It was replaced by Coconuts.

Description

Its design is an overgrown snail with spikes at the top of its body. In a prototype which features the Badnik in Emerald Hill Zone, it speeds up after seeing the player character. It otherwise acts very similarly to Moto Bug, except it can handle more varied terrain. Different attack patterns have been considered for the snail according to early design documents, in which it would have clung to a wall similar to Snale Blaster. It was also considered for Hill Top Zone in this alternate form.

Trivia

  • While it did not return as a normal enemy in the Christian Whitehead-produced 2013 mobile re-release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it does appear as a new Emerald Hill object in Debug Mode.
