Snail (カタツムリ), as it is named in early design documents, is a scrapped badnik that was set to appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It was replaced by Coconuts.
Description
Its design is an overgrown snail with spikes at the top of its body. In a prototype which features the Badnik in Emerald Hill Zone, it charges after seeing the player character. It can be destroyed by simply jumping on it. Different attack patterns have been considered for the snail according to early design documents, in which it would have clung to a wall similar to Snail Blaster. It was also considered for Hill Top Zone in this alternate form.
