- For the Battle mode power-up, see Slow (power-up).
Slow (スロー Surō?)[1] is a move used by Sonic the Hedgehog that, when activated, allows him to slow down time. It has only appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) as one of Sonic's Custom Actions. It can only be used after Sonic obtains the Red Gem.
Description
In order to use Slow, Sonic has to possess the Red Gem Level Up Item. Once obtained, the player has to select the Red Gem with the directional pad and activate it by holding down /
.
When activated, Sonic can slow down time, thus effectively slowing down the surrounding environment and enemies' movements while leaving Sonic himself unaffected. This is a great way for the player to get the upper hand when he/she is low on rings and is outnumbered in enemies. Additionally, Slow does not only slow the environment but the timer in the stages as well, making it a very valuable tool when the player wants to achieve a high score and rank.
Despite its advantages, using Slow comes with some faults in gameplay: as the player slows down time, it affects how fast the player can turn the camera, which disrupts Sonic's ability to turn quickly in the air in order to make Light Speed Dashes and pass through Rainbow Rings. To avoid this, the player is recommended to deactivate Slow at these points.
Trivia
- There is a glitch on the Xbox 360 version of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) that will occur when the player dies while using Slow in multiplayer. This glitch causes Sonic's actions to be executed at uncontrollable speeds. The glitch cannot be resolved until the player restarts the battle.
