The Slingshot Boost is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Boost Item used primarily to increase the user's speed.

The Slingshot Boost's icon takes the form of a slingshot used for launching birds, just like in the Angry Birds games.
Overview[]
In gameplay, the Slingshot Boost can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Red and Chuck.
Once obtained, the player can utilize the Slingshot Boost by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the user will stop moving for a moment as they begin to use the slingshot; they pull back and let go. The Slingshot Boost will increase the speed of the user for a short amount of time. The duration of the Slingshot Boost is shown by the decreasing gauge on top of this power-up's icon on the bottom of the HUD whenever the Slingshot Boost is in effect. However, the Slingshot Boost will be disabled if the user collides with an obstacle while using it. If an opponent collides with the user while Slingshot Boost is in effect (including the time that the user stopped), they will take damage, losing Rings and slowing down momentarily. Just like Chaos Charge, the Slingshot Boost allows the user to "fly" during the boost, but it will begin a little higher in height.
The Slingshot Boost can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 2, 8 and 14 respectively. For each upgrade, the Slingshot Boost will last longer.
Trivia[]
Red and Chuck have their own voice clips after they get a boost of speed from the Slingshot Boost.
Additionally, them shouting after being launched is reminiscent of how it works in the Angry Birds games.
Prior to 4.27.0 update, the Slingshot Boost was not activate as Invincibility when charging the boost.
During this update, the Slingshot Boost has an issue that invulnerable for entire boost. This was fixed in 4.27.1 update.
