The Sky Base Zone boss is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was a booby-trapped room onboard the Sky Base Zone created by Dr. Robotnik, who used it during the Sky Base Zone incident.

Appearance[]
The Sky Base Zone boss is a room filled with bobby traps. It is covered by a frame of cyan (or gray in the Game Gear version) metal and in the background, one can see multicolored circuitry panels and components. On the right end of the room is a protective and transparent glass tube for Dr. Robotnik to hide inside. Also, on the bottom of this cylinder is a red Switch for controlling the room's energy ball cannon. In addition, wrapped around the lower section of the cylinder's foot are yellow and black hazard stripes.
Features and abilities[]
On the Sega Master System version of the game, the room possesses a blue and gray sphere on the floor and ceiling that can generate an electrical barrier between them. This barrier can sweep the majority of the room. It also has an orange energy ball cannon on top of the room's glass cylinder.
On the Sega Game Gear version of the game, the room's floor is covered by three gray flamethrowers. There is also an orange energy ball cannon on the center of the ceiling.
History[]
Sonic the Hedgehog (8-bit)[]
In the 8-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog, Dr. Robotnik used this installation to attack Sonic when he arrived at the end of Sky Base Zone. In spite of Robotnik's efforts though, Sonic broke the glass cylinder protecting Robotnik in the end. With Robotnik making his escape, Sonic chased the doctor to the end of the Zone. There, Robotnik escaped through a teleporter to Green Hill Zone, but Sonic followed through the teleporter and dealt a devastating blow to Robotnik as he flew away in his Egg Mobile.

The Sky Base Zone boss is the fifth and final boss of Sonic the Hedgehog. The player fights it at the end of Sky Base Zone Act 3.
Boss guide[]
After dropping into Sky Base Zone Act 3, the player must run down a slope until they reach the boss arena which the boss fully occupies. The camera will then move to reveal the entire room, including Robotnik, initiating the boss battle.
The boss will start out by moving the ceiling and floor's electric spheres to the right side of the arena where they will generating an electric barrier between them. These active spheres will then move leftward all the way to the left edge of the boss arena before turning off and returning to the right side of the arena. The spheres will then repeat the process a second time. From that moment on, the spheres will move freely towards Sonic's longitude and will, after every third second, generate a two-seconds-long electric barrier between them. Meanwhile, Robotnik will jump on the Switch he stands on after every eighth second to activate the energy ball cannon. It will, after six seconds of charging up, then launch an energy ball in Sonic's direction at the moment of its launch. Simply dodge the attacks and attack Eggman's glass tube when the lightning generator deactivates. After a moderate amount of damage has been dealt, the timing of the electrical discharges becomes more erratic.
Once Robotnik has taken eight hits, the protective glass surrounding him will shatter. As Robotnik makes his getaway, the player must chase after him until he reaches a nearby teleporter and teleports himself away. Sonic will then use the teleporter as well to drop in on Robotnik as he escapes through Green Hill Zone in his Egg Mobile, destroying his Egg Mobile and stopping the doctor's plans. The Zone and the game will then end as the final score is calculated.

Boss guide[]
Following Sonic's fall into Sky Base Zone Act 3, the player must proceed down a slope until they arrive in the boss arena which the boss fully occupies. The camera will then move to reveal the entire room, including Robotnik, initiating the boss battle.
When the battle begins, the boss will immediately start activating the left flamethrower on the ground. The flamethrowers will then begin a cycle of activation following this pattern: first the right flamethrower actives for three seconds, then the central flamethrower turns on for three seconds, then the left flamethrower comes on for three seconds, and then the pattern returns to the right flamethrower, which starts the process over again. Meanwhile, Robotnik will jump on the Switch he stands on each seventh second to activate the energy ball cannon. After four seconds of charging up, this cannon will then launch an energy ball in Sonic's direction at the moment of its launch. To win, Simply dodge the attacks and attack Eggman's glass tube.
Once Robotnik has taken twelve hits, the protective glass surrounding him will shatter. As Robotnik makes his getaway, the player must chase after him until he reaches a nearby teleporter and teleports himself away. Sonic will then use the teleporter as well to drop in on Robotnik as he escapes through Green Hill Zone in his Egg Mobile, destroying his Egg Mobile and stopping the doctor's plans. The Zone and the game will then end as the final score is calculated.
