The Silver Hammer (シルバーハンマー Shirubāhanmā?) is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a Guardian that dwells on Ouranos Island, being the strongest variant of the Tower line.

Appearance[]

The Silver Hammer is a robotic enemy composed of various stacked parts, with multiple cylindrical segments, a head, and a spiked base. Its "body" segments are covered in shiny, scale-like armor plates which can fan outward when the robot moves or suffers damage. Its head segment has similar "scales" as its body, but with the addition of a sloped silver plate with grooves evoking a simple face. Its base is a metallic spike which is usually buried in the ground, only being revealed when the Tower moves around. Finally, it has a thick gray ring of scaled metal around its body, which can freely move along any of its body segments.

Powers and abilities[]

The Silver Hammer is essentially an upgraded version of the Red Pillar, being more durable and possessing all of its basic moves. This includes damaging attackers when they are near its body with its spinning ring, use it to fire spike projectiles for a ranged attack, lift itself out of the ground and hover in the air while firing the projectiles, and perform a stomp attack that can make spikes protrude out of the ground and harm enemies upon impact. When stationed on the ground, it can fire laser beams from its cylindrical segments. When it turns its flat scale-like armor into spikes-adorned one, it can also protect its cylindrical segments from further combo-based attacks and fire spike projectiles that cause large pillars of laser to erupt upon impact with the ground.

However, some of these attacks are augmented in scale. It can fire more spike projectiles that cover a larger area. Now, when its armor is adorned with spikes, the spike projectiles will cause several consecutive laser pillars to burst out of the ground instead of one per each projectile. It fires two laser beams instead of one from its cylindrical segments that circle around the area when stationed on the ground. However, it losses the ability to make spikes protrude out of the ground when stomping after the armor has been transformed.

During The Final Horizon, Silver Hammers fire much faster, is far taller and can fire explosive projectiles, but will not make its segments spiked or fire off lasers.

Weaknesses[]

Like the Red Pillar and other Tower-like Guardians, its head is vulnerable to all attacks. Its cylindrical segments can also be destroyed with combo-based attacks before they become adorned with spikes in order to make its head near the attack range. When the segments become adorned with spikes, only the Cyloop can remove the segments.

Furthermore, when all of the segments are removed, the Silver Hammer will lose it ability to fire laser beams, and will resort to using consecutive stomp attacks.

Battle[]

The Silver Hammer in Sonic Frontiers is one of six guardians that can be fought in Ouranos Island. It can be found in two locations: one located slightly to the west of the island's center at the end of a downhill, and the other one on the far west of the island overlooking the sea. Being the locations of a guardian, these two locations are marked in the map with two red crossing swords.

Boss guide[]

Main Story[]

This fight is very similar to the Red Pillar's, but with slight modifications. At first, the Silver Hammer only attacks by firing a barrage of spike projectiles at the player. In this case, the number of projectiles is larger and it covers a lot more area than with the Red Pillar. Still, these spikes do not explode upon impact, so the player can avoid them easier while running. While it fires these projectiles, the player must destroy as much as they can of its cylindrical segments so that they can reach its weak spot, the head. The player's preferred move in this case is the Cross Slash, as it can destroy a large number of segments and also avoid the Silver Hammer's spike projectiles. Then, the player can follow up with close combat for further segments removal.

When close to the Silver Hammer and after some of its segments have been removed, the Silver Hammer will perform a stomp attack onto the ground, that upon impact, fills the surrounding area with spikes (This only happens if the armor has not transformed yet). The player can use this attack to their advantage by either:

  • Attacking its head directly (if they can reach it now) after impact.
  • Or use Parry while the player positions themselves near the stomping impact area (before the impact), then launch a counter attack with Grand Slam on its head when the attack is parried successfully.

After the stomp attack, the Silver Hammer, on the ground, will fire two laser beams from its lowest segment that circle around the area. While the laser beams are on, its segments are completely protected by an invisible shield from attacks. If the player cannot yet reach the head to finish the Silver Hammer off, they can perform Cyloop around it while outrunning the two laser beams in order to remove another segment. If this Cyloop connects, the lowest segment will be removed and this puts the laser beams into halt. Thus, allowing the player to follow up by another Cyloop attack, destroying another segment, and make its head closer to the player's attack range. If the player does not finish it off while it is stationed on the ground, it will resume its spike projectiles attack.

Once a number of segments is removed from the Silver Hammer, it will erect a barrier with its now spike-filled armor as with the Red Pillar. This barrier protects its segments against all combo-based attacks. Now, only the Cyloop can remove the segments. With this barrier on, each spike projectile it fires will now leave a series of large consecutive pillars of laser upon impact. Nevertheless, its head is still vulnerable to all attacks and the Silver Hammer will keep using its previous attack patterns. If the player cannot reach the head during the laser-inducing projectiles attack, they can wait until it uses the stomp attack again and then attack its head while it is stationed on the ground. Henceforth, the Silver Hammer will lose its ability to spread spikes over the ground during its stomp attack's impact. Therefore, the player will only have to avoid the laser beams attack (if it still has a segment attached), and for consecutive stomp attacks (if it does not have) when launching their own attacks on the head while it is fixed onto the ground.

The Final Horizon[]

The Silver Hammer has several differences. It no longer fires laser-based attacks and deploy spike barriers for each segment destroyed. However like other guardians, it is significantly more durable with additional segments compared to the main story, making it taller and harder to reach. Additionally, the spike projectiles has a high rate of fire, making it harder to dodge projectiles. For each segment destroyed, the Silver Hammer fires aggressively and maneuvers around the character much faster, being able to outrun any character with max level boost. At lower segments, the Silver Hammer begins firing explosive spike projectiles, and potentially firing spike projectiles at random directions with a mix of non-explosive and explosive tips. Its stomp attack spreads ground spikes much further but shorter for lower segments (except for the third stomp attack).

Depending on any playable character, there are multiple methods:

Sonic[]

Using Sonic requires a string of combos when fighting the Silver Hammer. When playing as him, the player should follow the guide above, primarily using Cross Slash to remove all the segments. However, this action results in Silver Hammer moving away from Sonic, making it harder to chase the target. The player, however, can utilize Parry against spike projectiles, slowing down the Silver Hammer. Once the segments are low enough, the player should continuously attack it until the health drains to 0.

Alternatively, Sonic can climb up the pillars and use Homing Attack and Quick Cyloop at the head to destroy every segment. When only the ring and the head remains, perform Quick Cycloop twice at the head for a one hit kill.

Amy[]

The player should unlock Amy's High Card Jump, Parry, and Cyhammer. This method is more difficult since High Card Jump does not reach past the head. If the player locates any nearby tall platform, the player should use High Card Jump on that platform, then Card Float on top of the head without damaging it. Perform Cyhammer on the head to remove all the segments. Wait until the Silver Hammer performs a stomp attack, then parry the ground spikes. Get close to the Silver Hammer without touching the ring, and use Cyhammer twice to destroy the ring and head to achieve a one hit kill.

Knuckles[]

The player should unlock Knuckles' Parry and Cyknuckle. This method requires Knuckles to Climb on pillars without damaging the Silver Hammer and segments. Once Knuckles is an inch closer to the spiky rings, perform Cyknuckle to remove all the segments. Wait until the Silver Hammer performs a stomp attack, then parry the ground spikes. Unlike Amy's Cyhammer, Cyknuckle has less reach when attempting to destroy the ring. However, the player can perform a Homing Attack at the head, then use Cyknuckle to break off the ring for better positioning. Finish the head using the last Cyknuckle to defeat Silver Hammer.

Tails[]

The player should unlock Tails' Parry and Cyblaster. This method simply requires Tails to fly on top of the head. There are several climbing methods: the player locates a nearby platform, the player uses Cyclone Boost, or using Charged Wrench Attack to gain infinite height. Once Tails lands on the head without damaging the Silver Hammer, the player should fire the Cyblaster and detonate it manually to destroy all the segments. Wait until the Silver Hammer starts a stomp attack, then parry the ground spikes. Tails should fire the remaining cyblaster and manually detonating it twice at the Silver Hammer that results in an instant defeat.
