Side Stories are objectives for optional conversations that appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They can be accessed by having the required amount of Memory Tokens and after reaching a certain point within an island's Main Story.
Overview[]
Side Stories typically feature conversations between Sonic and one of his friends (Amy for Kronos Island, Knuckles for Ares Island, and Tails for Chaos Island). Rhea Island does not feature any Side Stories. Sage has her own separate Side Stories available on all islands, and is the only person on Ouranos Island to have any. Conversations generally consist of characters discussing a multitude of things such as observing their environments, discussing their current circumstances, pondering the history of the Starfall Islands, or reminiscing on their pasts.
In The Final Horizon, Side Stories deviate slightly from the pattern in the main game, due to the presence of all six main characters at once. Due to this, interactions are more varied in their topics, and though the characters will often cover the same type of topics from the original story, they will also bring up unexplained aspects of it as well, These conversations generally provide more insight into the Ancients' culture and life on the Starfall Islands, as well as more in-depth discussions of the nature of Cyber Space. Due to the absence of Memory Tokens in The Final Horizon, the Side Stories instead require a specific character to initiate them, and certain duos will feature entirely different conversations depending on who initiates it (I.E. Sonic initiating a conversation with Amy will lead to a different one than if Amy initiates one with Sonic).
Viewing all the Side Stories is required for getting 100% completion on an island in the main story, and is one of the requirements for getting a piece of advice from the Master King Koco in The Final Horizon.
Due to the differences in the script between the English and Japanese versions of Sonic Frontiers, the content of the Side Stories can differ between English and Japanese.

Tails then realizes that they were actually receiving code to to open the Vault. |

| Tails expresses surprises at the Death Egg Robot on Chaos Island being able to blast through the ground, before asking why it was the only one of many that they'd seen on the Islands be able to do that. Sage explains that that specific one was the one that they had arrived on the Starfall Islands with, but after the Doctor was trapped in Cyber Space, it was too damaged by the volcano to be moved. Tails accepts this, and mentions that they would not have been able to find one of the Chaos Emeralds on Chaos Island without it. Sage admits she was surprised that Sonic was able to hack into the robot, and mentions that they should repair it and add it to their troops, if time permitted. |
