The Shredder[1] is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog animated series. It is a large robot model created by Dr. Robotnik for cutting down trees and draining the life energy from them.[1]
Appearance[]
The Shredder is a large, four-legged robot with an orange and gray color scheme. It resembles a bit of a cross between a crab and a spider. It has quite thin, but long orange legs, and a torso covered in gray armor. It also has two arms, each with a circular saw at the end. In addition, the Shredder's two eyes are mounted on a long and thick red cable each.

Season one[]

Armed with the Shredder, Snively and a group of Swat-Bots used it to fell several trees in the Great Forest. The Shredder would then take the life energy from the felled trees, which Dr. Robotnik intended to use for his new Sonic Radar. However, the Shredder's work was interrupted by the arrival of Sonic. When the Shredder tried to cut Sonic, it mistakenly cut off one of its own eye-tentacles. The Shredder proceeded to chase after Sonic, but trampled over a Hover Unit piloted by two Swat-Bots in the process. Later, the Shredder tried to track Sonic with its eye tentacle, but Sonic made it tangle its own legs up with its tentacle, causing it to lose balance, fall over, and be destroyed. When Dr. Robotnik learned about the destruction of the Shredder, he ordered Snively to build another one immediately. Soon after, Robotnik and Snively transported the second Shredder to the Great Forest to continue their deforestation project. This time, however, it was destroyed by a shot from the Sonic Radar when it tried shooting down Sonic and Antoine while they stood on the Shredder.[1]

The Shredder possesses no kind of noticeable personality, being nothing else than a drone-like machine.[1]
Powers and abilities[]

The Shredder is equipped with large sawblades that can cut down large trees in seconds. It can also extract the life energy from trees with the aid of a red scanner, turning the targeted trees into lifeless mush in the process. It is also equipped with tentacles on its eyes, thus allowing it a greater field of vision.[1]

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, the Shredder is referred to as the Shredbot. It attacked the Knothole Freedom Fighters, but was defeated by Tails, whose intelligence had been bolstered by the Tree of Wisdom's fruit.
