There are multiple types of shops in Sonic Speed Simulator, from which the player can obtain many characters, friends, trails, and mounts. They vary widely, with some only being around for a limited time and selling themed items, while others are always present but regularly change their inventories. These shops also take different currencies, ranging from ones that can be earned through in-game actions to Robux, which can only be obtained through purchasing them with real money.

Description[]

Podium Shop[]

New Yoke podium shop

The Podium Shop consists of characters, friends, and mounts displayed on podiums. The designs of these podiums and the way they are displayed has varied much throughout the history of the game, but they have always been small circular platforms that incorporate lights into their design. They also sometimes feature backgrounds composed of a rounded shape, and the same type of lights as the podium. These podiums used to be simply arranged in a rough line, but currently they are arranged in wooden stalls, complete with awning and glowing signs that explain the various types of items for sale. All items sold from the Podium Shop are found in the starting area of Green Hill, with the exception of several temporary friend sales and permanent character sales in New Yoke.

Race Shop[]

The Race Shop is composed of a small stand a large billboard standing above it. This stand is made of metal, and features a black and white awning on top, in addition to a similarly colored mid-section. To the left of it is a small pile of tires, loosely stacked on top of each other. The billboard displays the current amount of Race Tickets the player has, and the two most recent racesuit variants of characters that are available from it at the moment, standing to the left and right of the count respectively. These two characters are also standing in front of the stand and billboard, on very small circular platforms that resemble the podiums from the Podium Shop, except patterned with a checker-stripe design. While standing there, the two characters will occasionally go through their idle animations. During wave 7 of the shop, a Fast Friend can also be seen between the two characters who are part of the wave, who are Knuckles and Rouge.

Red Star Ring Shop[]

The Red Star Ring Shop is composed of five podiums on a single wooden stall that is identical to the ones of the Podium Shop, except with a red, white, and yellow color palette instead. The sign on top contains three Red Star Rings above large text that reads "STORE".

Seasonal Shops[]

Halloween Shop[]

Halloween shop SSS

The Halloween Shop and Amy's BOOtique both are very similar visually, as they are the same shop, but they have had some relatively minor differences in appearance between their two appearances. They both consist of a black and orange stand that's otherwise identical to the one from the Race Shop except for a few small pumpkins on it, as well as larger pumpkins to the side of it and giant tombstones behind it. Gothic Amy is also positioned besides the stand on both, constantly doing her idle animation. However, the 2023 version of the shop features a titled gravestone with a bat and a skull on it to the right of the stand, behind a large cauldron that is also sitting to the right. The only other decoration (not counting the various pumpkins and leaves) is a black, obelisk-shaped tombstone sitting directly behind the stand. The 2022 version lacks the cauldron, obelisk, and gravestone, instead only having two straight standing and blank tombstones behind and to the right of it. To the left is a slightly larger tombstone, which has colored text on it explaining how to earn Candy.

Holiday Shop[]

Holiday shop sss

Unlike the Halloween Shop, the two versions of the Holiday Shop are completely different. The 2023 version consists of a sleigh (the same model as the Santa Sleigh Hoverboard) with Santa Sonic standing in front of it, a large, in-ward candy cane on each side, and multiple presents sitting on the ground nearby. There is also a sign to the right wishing the player happy holidays and explaining how to collect Candy Canes. Tail's Winter Workshop much more closely resembles the other seasonal shops, using a red and green colored version of the same stand model with Elf Tails stationed behind it. There are also various red and white presents scattered around, in addition to multiple candy canes (one of them being giant while the others are much smaller).

Menu Shop[]

As its name implies, the menu shop and the items purchased from it are primarily found in a menu. However, it does have some small physical appearances in the form of golden objects that allow the player to purchase some of the game passes that it offers. These structures have a golden base with four blue lights attached that emit gold and purple light, as well as a purple body that extends upwards before ending in a concave shape plated with gold. On the center of this body are four gold rings of various sizes, all with a glowing white light between them. Above the top of the body, there is a light blue bubble with gold edges containing the icon of the game pass that the player can buy from it.

Overview[]

Podium Shop[]

The Podium Shop is the oldest and most prominent shop in the game. It consists of all characters, friends, and mounts that are purchasable via displays, most of which are located at the beginning of Green Hill in a designated shop area.

Since all characters can be earned through events or other means, they are the only thing sold in the Podium Shop that are never exclusive to it. Instead, the characters sold are all characters from older events (sometimes even ones from the legacy version) that are currently unobtainable. There are three specific types of character sales in the Robux store, those being individual, bundles, and star. Individual character sales are exactly what they sound like, single characters that can be purchased for a set price each. In addition to the weekly rotating selection in Green Hill, there is a permanent shop in New Yoke that sells Nine, Rusty Rose, and Prime Rouge. Bundle sales are usually composed of three characters and have a theme, the most common of which is different outfits for the same character. These sales also rotate weekly, although there are always less of them then individual character sales, as each shop only contains up to two bundle sales. Lastly, star sales are by far the newest type of character sale, having been introduced in Version 2.40. They are the same as individual character sales, except for the fact that the characters they sell begin with a certain level of mastery. These levels are three and five, meaning that all star sales contain exactly two characters.

Sonic and Shadow Chao podiums

A Sonic Chao and a Shadow Chao, the two most recurring Podium Shop exclusive friends

Unlike characters, all friends that can be purchased with Robux can only be obtained by buying them from the Podium Shop. They are usually sold individually or in bundles of five, which are discounted to be cheaper than buying five of them separately. On some occasions, though, only the individual friends are sold. Since the selection of friends rotates every week, new ones are frequently introduced, often being themed around the updates they are a part of. However, the character Chao friends (such as the Sonic Chao) frequently return to the shop in lieu of new ones being created, a behavior that is unique to them. During early events in the legacy version of Sonic Speed Simulator, some friends were purchasable in a way that was similar to the Podium Shop, but used large amounts of rings instead, and had a tighter time limit for when they would be discontinued (typically two days). Several friends previously only obtainable through purchases from the Podium Shop can actually be obtained for free through the Legendary Spin Wheel, which gives them out as a reward if the player already owns the character that they would've been given otherwise.

Both types of mounts (hoverboards and planes) are sold in the Podium Shop. The shop contains several unique hoverboards that can only be obtained from it, but also resells hoverboards from expired events, typically from the legacy version of the game. The planes sold, however, are all exclusive. These planes also have the added benefit of being 50% faster than standard planes, a trait that none of the exclusive hoverboards or planes that can be obtained from other sources possess.

Race Shop[]

The Race Shop is located at the races area in Green Hill near the start point, and contains an inventory consisting of two exclusive Racesuit variants of characters as well as assorted friends, trails, and Mounts. Most of the friends and trails featured are also exclusive, but they can be re-used as well. All of these items cost a varying amount of Race Tickets, with each character always costing 1250 tickets. Due to the large amount of time that needs to be spent in races to accrue such a high amount, the Race Shop's inventory refreshes once every month, instead of every week.

Red Star Ring Shop[]

The Red Star Ring Shop functions similarly to the Robux store, also featuring individual character sales that change on a weekly basis. However, these characters are not bought with Robux, but instead with Red Star Rings. This means that they can be obtained without the need to spend real money.

Seasonal Shops[]

There are two types of Seasonal Shops, the Halloween Shop and the Holiday Shop, previously known as Amy's BOOtique and Tail's Winter Workshop. They both function exactly the same, appearing for a limited amount of time around Halloween or Christmas to sell characters, friends, trails, and mounts related to their respective holidays in exchange for Candy and Candy Canes. These currencies are both only used for their respective shops, and thus can only be obtained while they are active. Almost all items sold in Seasonal Shops are exclusive, but during their 2023 appearances, both shops have sold old friends and characters that could have previously been obtained elsewhere. Like the Podium Shop, holiday shops refresh their inventory every week, although the extent of whats changed can vary.

Menu Shop[]

The Menu Shop, like the Podium Shop, only sells items that are bought with Robux. The two things that set it apart from the other store are that items can only be bought through a menu accessed through a button near the bottom right of the screen (with the exception of a few game passes that are advertised through stands in Green Hill), and that it does not sell equippable items. Instead, it sells game passes, rings, and boosts.

Gamepass menu SSS

The game pass section of the Menu Shop

Game passes can affect the game in several ways, but they all give a permanent advantage to the player in some way. These range from having an always active magnet effect, to being able to open three eggs at once, to earning double the amount of race tickets or levels. The only game pass that does not function like this is the Starter Pack game pass, which in addition to granting the +2 Pet Slots game pass, also gives the player a Tails Chao as well as rings, a temporary XP boost, and extra inventory slots. All game passes that can be bought from the store can also be bought outside the game by visiting its page and clicking on the store tab.

Rings are exactly what they sound like, simply granting the player anywhere between 50k and 20 million rings for varying amounts of Robux. Unlike game passes, they can be purchased infinitely, meaning the player can purchase as many rings as they want to.

Boosts are also infinitely buyable, having four different effects that vary in price and are all granted for 20 minutes each. These effects are triple rings, XP, and Race Tickets, as well as a magnet effect.

Trivia[]

  • The 2022 version of the Holiday Workshop is consistently spelled as "Tail's Winter Workshop", even though this is grammatically incorrect.
  • The first wave of the Race Shop contains the same items as the Race Wheel did, as it was its replacement.
