The Shop[1][2] (ショップ[3] Shoppu?) is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They are places where the player can purchase various items for different purposes.

Description[]

Shops are normally found in the Town Stages and similar hub worlds while other instances feature them as accessible via the main menus. In gameplay, the player can interact with the Shops, which will open up for a selection of different items that cannot be found elsewhere. Here, the player can trade the Rings, which has been collected or earned over the course of the game, for one or more items in the Shop. Items in the Shops come at different prices and if the player does not have enough Rings for an item, it cannot be purchased.

In Sonic Riders, the Shop is dark underground room lid up by light coming in from a grill vent on the right side of said room. It is as well dirty and has a cobweb in corner but is otherwise filled with various forms of merchandise. It also has a front desk with a cash register on it. The shop is operated by a neutral Chao wearing a red neckerchief over their mouth and goggles. The Shop can be entered via the Mode Select menu when entering the game.

In this game, the Shop specializes in purchasing and exchanging Extreme Gear, which the playable characters can utilize during races. When entering the Shop, the player can select exchange and press A Button GameCube v2/Cross/XboxA. Then, they must use the control stick to browse the available Extreme Gear. Inside a Shop, from Sonic the Hedgehog (2006).

In Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), the Shops are named Network Shops by the citizens of Soleanna. In normal situations, the Shop is a floating computer screen that can operate on its own, though in some places it can be found inside a regular Shop where it is operated by a human. The Shops can be found in every Town Stage and are shown on the game's map as yellow squares. To open a Shop in gameplay, the player has to press XboxX/Square twice.

In this game, the Shops sell Level Up Items, which will enhance the playable characters' skills. All the Shops hold the same inventory within their individual Episode, with each Episode having a different set of Level Up Items. However, all the Level Up Items are not present in the Shop to begin with and the player must progress with the Episode's story to unlock more. The Shops in each episode hold the following items:

Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood[]

Lbx 38

A Shop, from Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.

In Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, the Shops can be found in certain playable areas. They typically reside in their own separate rooms that can be accessed from the world map. Each Shop's layout is designed according to its location's environment and is similarly operated by either humans, Krons, Zoahs, or Voxai, depending on their location. To interact with a Shop, the player must approach the Shop's shopkeeper and either press the interaction icon that pops up on the touch screen or press the L/R Button.

In this game, the Shops sell either equipment, which can alter the stats of the playable characters when equipped to them, or consumables, which can restore a playable character's various parameters or provide them with temporary combat-related boosts in battle. Each Shop also has its own selection of products to choose from. Also, in Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, the player can either buy things with Rings, or sell items not needed for Rings. By touching the arrow icons while interacting with a Shop, the player can toggle between the "Selling" and "Buying" options. Under "Selling", all items in the player's Shop that are not currently equipped will be displayed with a price. Simply select the item to sell and touch "Sell Item". The item will then disappear from the player's inventory and their Rings will be increased by the stated amount. Under "Buying" on the other hand, select an item from the list to see a description on the top screen. Having enough Rings and touching the "Buy Item" lets the player purchase the item. The item will then appear in the player's inventory while the player loses Rings by the stated amount. The Shops in the listed areas hold the following items:

Sonic Unleashed[]

Apotos shop

The Shop in Apotos, from the Xbox 360 version of Sonic Unleashed.

In the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Unleashed, Shops are found all across the earth, each being run by a human (except from Eggmanland). Each Town Stage has only one Shop and their layout reflects their local surroundings. To interact with a Shop, the player must press Cross/XboxA.

In this game, the Shops sell three distinct types of items; edible items for boosting Sonic's parameters or getting responses from Chip, collectibles like Videotapes, Records, Art Books and Souvenirs, and objects like the TV, Gramophone and Bookshelf for displaying collectibles and other information. Each Shop in the game has a different inventory with exclusive items to their region, though they sometimes have a few items in common. The Shops themselves do not become available until after clearing Savannah Citadel Night Act 1, but progressing with the story will unlock more items. The Shops found in the game include:

Sonic Speed Simulator[]

In Sonic Speed Simulator, the Shop appears more as a separate menu than a physical location that the player can visit. Furthermore, instead of paying in Rings when making a purchase here, the player pays in Robux (R$), the in-game virtual currency. The purchases that can be made in this shop are divided into gamepasses, which grant permanent benefits to a player, boosts, which grant temporary effects to the player that last for thirty minutes, and Gold Rings, which grants the player additional Rings.
