Trivia[]
- The story Maekawa felt the happiest about writing was Sonic and the Black Knight.[1]
- Maekawa's overall favorite story remains to be Sonic Adventure 2, as he has an emotional attachment to it, being the game he first wrote for. He has stated if he had a chance to change something about it if he had to, he would only add the scenes he had to cut.[1]
- Maekawa's favorite characters are Team Chaotix, Charmy Bee in particular. He enjoyed writing their lines in Sonic Heroes, and has stated he would write a new story related to them if he had the chance.[1] He has also stated that Shadow the Hedgehog is his favorite character and has expressed how he feels that he has a stronger bond with him than his actual family members.[2]
- Maekawa has not written much besides Sonic, before or after.[1]
- Maekawa's writing style was mostly inspired by Hayao Miyazaki and Mamoru Oshii's films, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer and Ghost in the Shell in particular.[1]
- Maekawa has imagined that if he continued to write for Sonic the Hedgehog, he would give Shadow a story where after granting Maria's wish, he would rest in a capsule once again for a long time until he is woken up hundreds of years later by someone seeking help.[3][4]
- Maekawa was unable to provide writing or assistance for Shadow the Hedgehog as a result of him being in Japan at the time of the game's development.[5]
