Not to be confused with Shark.

Sharks[1] (サメ[2] same?), also known as shākun (シャークン[2]?), are creatures that appear throughout the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They are saltwater, predatory fish of varying sizes, often serving as obstacles or collectables.

Description[]

Based off of the real-life fish of the same name, sharks are predatory fish with sharp teeth, and prominent fins. Although prominently blue in Sonic Adventure, they also come in either purple or pink when encountered in Sonic Rush Adventure.

Game appearances[]

Sonic Adventure[]

In Sonic Adventure and its enhanced port Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, the shark appears as one of the collectible fishes that can be caught during Big the Cat's fishing gameplay. They are fairly common and can be found in Icecap, Emerald Coast and the Hot Shelter. Catching one will reward the player with about 800 to 2,000 points in Icecap and Emerald Coast,[2] while catching one in Hot Shelter is rewarding the player with about 800 to 1,200 points.[3]

Sonic Rush Adventure[]

In Sonic Rush Adventure, varying sharks appears as obstacles within the Sea Stages when using either Aqua Blast or Deep Typhoon. They are worth a varying number of points depending on both vehicles and how well shot: a pink shark is primarily worth 500 points, while a purple shark is worth between 600 and 800 points. [4][5]

Archie Comics[]

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, sharks appear under the name "The Shark" as a violent alien race from an alternate Zone. They were inadvertently created by the Downunda Freedom Fighters, and were responsible for invading several planets (such as Bluto) and slaughtering most of their inhabitants.

Although the alien Sharks would not appear following the Super Genesis Wave, Mobian sharks, such as Razor, would be present in the Prime Zone.

Sonic X[]

In the Sonic X anime series, a giant gray shark tries to eat Sonic as he is hanging over a large water tank, lunging at him from the tank but missing. When Amy Rose falls into the tank, it tries to eat her only to get hit by her Piko Piko Hammer.[6]
