Shadow the Hedgehog is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spin-offs. He is an anthropomorphic hedgehog related to a secret government experiment called Project Shadow over fifty years prior to Dr. Robotnik's return from the Mushroom Planet.

Shadow is a black-furred anthropomorphic hedgehog. He has red eyes, a patch of white fur on his chest, a black nose, a tan muzzle, and small, triangular ears with tan canals. He also has five quills on his head, four of which curve upwards while the other curves downward, and a short, pointy tail. He also has red stripes along the tops of each of his head quills, along with around the edges of his eyes.
For attire, Shadow wears white gloves with black cuffs and red tongues, red, white and black shoes which, like his gloves, have black cuffs and red tongues, and gold rings, one on each of his wrists and ankles.

Over fifty years ago, Shadow was related to a secret experiment dubbed Project Shadow. He was eventually put into stasis and hidden away in a black site research facility.

Fifty years later, under unknown circumstances, Shadow's pod was reactivated in his facility, allowing the hedgehog to wake up from his stasis.
