Shadow Chao is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a type of Dark Chao that can increase their bonded individual's rewards. Most notably, there is a Shadow Chao being raised by Shadow the Hedgehog[1].

Appearance[]

Shadow Chao have black, pudding-like bodies with round heads. They also have large blue eyes, no noses, round torsos that are smaller than their heads, smooth feet with no legs, and arms with no visible hands. In addition, they have five quills on their backs of their heads, much like Shadow the Hedgehog, and triangular ears on top of their heads. They also have a floating red spiked ball above their heads, red tipped arms, feet and ears, short and round tails, and a small set of wings on their backs.

History[]

Sonic Adventure 2[]

In Sonic Adventure 2 and its enhanced port Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, Shadow Chao appear as a type of Chao which can be acquired by Fusing a Dark Chao into a run type, and continuing to give it Chaos Drives and Animals which increase its "run" stat.

IDW Publishing[]

In White Park Chao Racing Circuit, Shadow Chao would be forced by Clutch the Opossum to compete in a Chao race. In the race a Shadow Chao would start a rivalry with Cheese but after Cream discovered the Chao were being hoarded Belle would save the Shadow Chao and would help Gemerl in his fight.[2][3][4][5]

Sonic Speed Simulator[]

In Sonic Speed Simulator, Shadow Chao is a collectible pet of the "Exotic" rarity. It could be purchased during the "Release Shadow Event" at a display model near the starting point in Green Hill for 399 Robux. Alternatively, the player could buy five of them at once for 999 Robux at a display model in the same world.

In gameplay, Shadow Chao can be equipped to the playable character, allowing them to fly by the side of the playable character as they move around. In addition, when equipped, the Shadow Chao will grant additional Experience Points whenever the playable character obtains a Chaos Orb and additional Rings whenever they pick up a single Ring. The player can as well level up Shadow Chao for a cost of Rings and/or Red Star Rings at the Upgrade Machine, with level 25 being the maximum level. Leveling up a Shadow Chao will improve its reward-granting attributes. Additionally, the player can fuse a Shadow Chao by collecting five Shadow Chao, leveling all of them up to maximum, and bringing them to the Fusion Machine. Fusing a Shadow Chao will result in a singular fused Chao at level 1.

Powers and abilities[]

Shadow Chao are capable of flight. In addition, they possess the power to increase the rewards granted to the person they have bonded with. They also possess notable speed compared to most other Chao.

IDW Publishing[]

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series published by IDW Publishing. The Shadow Chao is seen to be brash and strong, being able to knocks a Chao over in an instant.[3][2]
